He didn't acknowledge the sound of the cup being placed on the table in front of him, barely even turned his head as Heero sat down beside him. The android waited, knowing that the priest would eventually speak. He needed to, though he might not acknowledge it, even to himself.
So Heero settled in to wait, keeping his eyes focused on the cup and not on the being beside him.
"What a bloody waste," Duo's voice was soft as his fingers reached up and touched the glass of the window. "Such destruction- and for what?"
Heero didn't look out the window. He'd seen the devastation up close. "You know their reasons."
"Pointless reasons."
The android lifted a shoulder in a half-shrug. "Not to them."
Whirling, Duo turned on him and for a moment, Heero wondered if the other was going to attack him. There was a sudden scent of blood in the air, the impression of huge wings. "They killed innocents for their own ambitions-!"
"And they never will again." Heero interjected. "We stopped them."
"Not in time to save these ones."
"We can't be everywhere at once."
Duo slumped back against the sofa, the air of danger gone, leaving behind only weariness. "I wish I could."
"As do I. But it is impossible." Heero nudged the cup closer. "Tea."
"Tea?" Duo echoed as if he'd never heard of the concept.
"Tea- and a chocolate biscuit."
Duo simply sighed and turned back to the window. Damn. Usually that worked. Heero made a mental note and went with the next item on his list.
Eyes widening slightly with shock, Duo reached up a hand to touch one of Heero's. "Are you... hugging me?"
"Positive."
"Why?"
"You need comfort- and the tea didn't work."
Duo opened his mouth to protest and then closed it again. Instead he leaned into the comfort Heero offered and closed his eyes.
"This is better than the tea."
"Negative. You just aren't hungry at the moment."
