Royal Affairs Part 1

Voices.

"What is it?"

"It's a person, a boy I think."

"Where did he come from?"

"He fell."

"From where?"

"Who cares right now? He's hurt, get him back to the castle. Call for the Healer."

"Yes your grace."

Darkness. Everything around him was dark. The voices stopped. Am I dead? He thought to himself. Everything hurt; he didn't even want to think about opening his eyes. And then the voices returned.

"He's very hurt, your grace."

"Do what you can for him, Lady."

"Yes, sire."

Cool hands touched his forehead. He fell back to the darkness, not wanting to face the pain just yet.

He moaned, and slowly opened his eyes. The room was bright. This wasn't his room. Opening his eyes all the way, Quatre looked around. The room looked like something out of a movie. A medieval movie. Finely crafted furniture like the dresser and chairs. The bed was huge and the blankets were so soft. The sheets were silk. Where was he?

Quatre then noticed something to his right. A pair of eyes were watching him and just the top of a head could be seen. A head with cat ears. Quatre blinked and the head was gone. He heard something shuffle and then at the end of the bed the eyes reappeared. Again the head disappeared and reappeared at the other side. Then the door opened and the head disappeared again.

Quatre looked at the door and who had walked in. A young woman with wheat blond hair and blue eyes. She wore a fine looking dress. She walked up to the end of the bed and stared at him. Then the head reappeared next to her. Still he couldn't see who or what it was. The girl petted the head.

Another woman came in. Auburn colored hair that was curly came to her shoulders. She had gray eyes and a kind smile. "Is he awake?" She asked the other woman.

"Not really. He seems like he's trying to wake but he's probably still tired."

The second woman knelt down, the cat ear head moved to her. "Now you watch him and make sure he's okay." She petted the head and then stood. "We should go, cousin.

Let him rest."

The other woman nodded and they both left. Quatre closed his eyes welcoming the darkness and sleep. Maybe he was just dreaming the whole thing.

"Your grace."

Trowa Barton, King of the Western Lands looked down at his cousin from his throne. His cousin who also happened to be captain of the guard. "Yes, Zechs."

Zechs bowed, long blond hair spilling over his shoulder. "A messenger has been sent here form the Eastern Lands."

"And?"

"And the prince is on his way."

"Why?"

"To disuses trade."

"Very well. Prepare rooms for him and his attendants."

"Yes, sire." Zechs turned and left the throne room, passing by his sister and other cousin.

"Brother?"

Trowa looked at his sister and other cousin.

"Catherine."

"The boy opened his eyes. And your pet is watching him now." Catherine smiled at her brother.

"Thank you for telling me. Which reminds me, we will be having company soon."

"Who would that be, your grace?" Trowa looked at his cousin. She smiled at him. She was never really comfortable around him. He may have save both her and her brother but he just seemed cold.

"The prince from the Eastern Lands. I assume he and his companions will be here soon."

"We'll make sure everything is in order, brother." Catherine reassured him. "Come on Relena, let's leave Trowa be for now. I'm sure he has lots of work to do." Catherine grabbed a hold of her cousin's hand and pulled her out of the room.

Quatre opened his eyes again. And once again there was a pair of eyes watching him. The ears on top of the head twitched. Quatre blinked a couple of times. He focused on the eyes. Violet, they were violet colored. The next thing he noticed was the top of the head had hair instead of fur.

"Hello." Quatre said softly, mostly because he was still tired.

"Hello." Quatre turned his head toward the door. He heard the other scurry away from the bed. A woman stood holding a basket. She had brown hair the came just past her shoulders. "You are awake. How are you feeling? His grace's pet didn't wake did it?" Her eyes narrowed at the 'pet'.

"No and I'm still tired."

"I see, are you hungry?"

"A little."

"My name is Lady Une; I am his grace's healer."

"Um...hi."

Une raised her eyebrows and then narrowed her eyes. Before she could say anything someone else entered the room.

"How is he?" A deep soothing voice asked. Quatre heard something move. Looking to the voice he saw a man dressed in what looked like fine clothing, a cape and he wore a crown. He was tall and had brown almost auburn colored hair the covered half his face. He was kneeling and petting something.

"He's awake and rude." Une sneered. The word rude had gotten Quatre's attention. He hadn't thought he was being rude.

"You say that about everyone, Lady. He's probably still disorientated. I'm sure he didn't mean any harm." The man waked up to the side of the bed and sat down. "My name is Trowa Barton, King of the Western Lands. What is your name?" Quatre blinked, king?

"His grace asked you a question." Une snapped.

"Um... Quatre, my name is Quatre."

"Nice to meet you Quatre. Are you hungry?"

"A little."

"Une go have someone bring us some food."

"Will you not be joining your family?" Une asked.

"Not tonight."

"Your grace." Une bowed and left the room.

Trowa looked at Quatre. "Don't mind Lady Une. The food should be here shortly."

"Thank you."

"So where do you come from, Quatre?"

"Um... I uh..." Quatre wouldn't look at Trowa, so he tried to be interested in the bedspread.

"You seemed to have fallen from the sky. Are you an angel?"

Quatre thought he heard a giggle from beside the bed. "No...I was driving on the mountain road and I didn't make the turn and drove off the edge."

"Driving? What is..." Trowa was confused by that word. He had never heard of driving before. "Never mind. There aren't any mountains close by. Perhaps an angel dropped you here."

There was a knock at the door and Trowa went to answer it. Entering the room was someone with a tray off food. A second person entered with another tray. They set the trays down bowed to Trowa and left. Trowa picked up a plate and handed it to Quatre.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. I hope it's to your liking." Trowa sat down on the edge of the bed.

Quatre took a bite of food. "Mmm, yes this is very good." Quatre continued to eat. The room was quiet as he ate. Trowa ate his own food, occasionally he would offer a bite to his pet. But Quatre never saw what it was. Finally they finished and Quatre yawned.

Trowa took the plates. "You should rest."

Quatre yawned again. "Yeah I guess I didn't realize how tired I was."

"Well then good night and pleasant dreams." Trowa headed for the door.

Quatre smiled. "Night." He closed his eyes and let sleep claim him.

Trowa walked down the hall towards his chambers. Following him was his pet. Trowa nodded to the guards as he passed them. He turned a corner and saw Zechs ahead of them.

"Your grace, how is the guest?" Zechs bowed to Trowa.

"Sleeping. I'm sure Lady Une put some herbs that would allow him to sleep better." Trowa continued to walk.

"Relena said the chambers would be ready for the prince by mid day."

"That's good." Trowa stopped outside his chambers.

"I think I'll retire for the night."

Zechs looked down at Trowa's pet. "Will he be staying with you?"

Trowa looked down to see his pet glaring at Zechs.

"Lady Une put the boy in his room. He needs to sleep somewhere. Besides its not like he's never slept in the same room as I before. Now good night."

Zechs bowed again. "Pleasant dreams your grace."

Trowa and his pet enter his chambers. Trowa stripped off his cape and placed his crown on a pillowed pedestal. He then began removing his gloves and undoing his jacket.

"You wear too many clothes."

Trowa looked over at his pet. "I know, but its proper and heaven forbid I the King not do something proper." "She gave away my room." His pet pouted and glared at the same time. His arms crossed over his chest.

"I'm sorry, Duo. I didn't know she put him there until it was too late. The boy shouldn't be moved right now." Trowa sat on the bed and took off his boots.

"He's pretty." Duo played with the end of his braid.

Trowa looked at him. "Yes he is. Come up here."

Duo looked at Trowa. "I don't think that would be proper. After all I'm nothing more than a pet and pets don't sleep in their master's beds. Or so says Lady Une."

Duo looked away from Trowa.

"I don't care. It's not like you've never slept in the same bed as me." Trowa sighed. "I'm sorry."

Duo crawled onto the bed. "For what?"

"For you not being treated right. You're not a pet, you're my friend."

"Not your fault." Duo curled up into a ball and closed his eyes. "You try your best. You gave me a room."

Trowa reached over and scratched behind Duo's ear. "I wish there was more I could do for you my friend." Duo didn't answered, he merely purred.
