Mage vs. Guard Halloween Drabble 4
The guard stepped quietly into the room, hissing slightly as he bent over the unconscious mage on the floor. "Tried it again, I see," he said softly, gently pressing his fingers against the mage's wrist. The steady beat reassured him, and he stepped back just enough so that he could easily pull his charge up into his arms.
Hakkai didn't react to the change in position, and Gojyo sighed.
"You know, the others complain all the time that their mages don't listen to them and run off into danger. I think I'd prefer that to having you keep trying this insane spell of yours," Gojyo said conversationally, knowing that the other couldn't hear him. "I'm beginning to think I can't leave you alone for a moment- I never know when you are going to take it into your head to try this stupid stunt."
Reaching the bedroom, he carefully put the mage on the bed and tugged off Hakkai's sweat-soaked robes. The mage's skin was cool to the touch, and Gojyo knew from experience that he'd wake up shivering. Pulling off his own clothes, he slid under the blankets, tugging Hakkai along with him. Hopefully, he'd be able to warm up the mage before he woke up and got chilled.
"Idiot," he said into Hakkai's hair. "She's gone. You can't bring her back."
There was no answer, of course.
"I really should report you for this. If Milady found out you were messing around with the forbidden magics, she'd stop you." Gojyo sighed. "Besides- don't you think that maybe she's not there to call anymore? Maybe those stories of being reborn are true and she's moved on."
'Like you should,' he added in his head. Even with Hakkai unconscious, he didn't quite dare say that to him out loud.
Instead, he simply curled himself around his mage and waited. Hakkai would need more than warmth from him when he woke up and he had to be ready.
