This one came out dorky too, but I am tired of messing with it. :P Is it Friday yet??

Mage vs. Guard Christmas Drabble
Midwinter

Duo scanned the hall and frowned. Heero had been here a minute ago. The feast had ended, the tables had been pushed back for entertainment- and his mage had vanished.

Scanning the crowd again, he still couldn't spot the one bit of dark blue against the green of the guards, the light red of the mages and the gold of the healers. Heero must've snuck away. But why?

Quickly, Duo made his way across the hall and up the stairs. Sure enough, there was a glimmer of light under the door of the rooms he shared with Heero.

Heero was stretched out on the couch in his study, a book in his hands. He looked up, startled, at Duo's entrance. "What are you doing here?"

"You left the hall."

"I never stay for the dancing part." Heero made a slight face.

Duo sighed and moved closer to the couch. "You could've told me. I'm supposed to guard you, remember?"

"We're safe enough here, and besides, you were busy." Heero looked back at his book. "Go back downstairs and enjoy yourself, Duo. Take the night off."

He was busy? Duo regarded the man on the couch with exasperation. He hadn't been busy; he had just been talking to the new guard-

Oh.

He moved closer to the couch, deciding his angle of attack.

Carefully, because if he pounced Heero might counter with the frog spell, Duo eased himself onto Heero's lap.

Heero put down his book. "What are you doing?"

"I thought it was obvious. I'm taking your advice and enjoying myself."

"I meant downstairs."

"If you insist." Duo moved his hands just so...

Heero drew in a sharp breath. "I didn't mean that downstairs!"

"Well, this is where I enjoy myself the most."

"I'm trying to read."

"Feel free. I'll just entertain myself here." Duo smiled.

Heero dropped his book and glared up at his guard. "Duo- you were having a perfectly good time downstairs. It's Midwinter's Eve. You don't have to stay up here with me."

Duo leaned down and ran his lips over the side of Heero's jaw. "Midwinter's Eve is a time to spend with loved ones. So where else would I be?"

Before Heero could answer, Duo kissed him, relaxing happily as Heero's arms slid around his shoulders and pulled him closer still.

"Are you sure this is where you want to be?" Heero murmured against Duo's mouth.

"Very sure."

Much to Duo's delight, Heero's mouth curved under his, and a moment later he flipped them over, so Duo was the one lying flat on his back on the couch.

"Then let me help you enjoy your evening."
