Mage vs. Guard Halloween Drabble
"It had twelve arms!" Duo said again and Heero sighed.
"Yes it did." He agreed and closed his eyes. "But you cut them all off."
"I didn't like what it was trying to do to you."
"I didn't either." Heero swallowed, wincing as his bruised throat protested. "I really object to be strangled to death."
Duo made a faint noise. "I don't think that's what it was trying to do," he muttered.
"I promise you, you're the only one who insists on sleeping with me," Heero said, amused. "That monster just wanted me for dinner."
"I just want you for dinner sometimes too. All spread out on that table of yours..."
"Duo!"
"Shh! I'm trying to think happy thoughts here."
"Perverted thoughts."
"Same thing."
"For you."
"For you too. I saw how you smiled that one day you walked in on me in the shower-"
"I was thinking of something else."
"Right. Sure you were." Duo looked up at the sky. "Speaking of bed-"
"We weren't."
"We will be. It's getting dark. I don't think you have the energy to transport us back, so we'd better make camp."
"Did we bring supplies for that?"
"I always bring them. Just in case." Duo turned the horse's head towards a small grove of trees. "We can camp there."
Once safely under the shelter of the trees, Duo slid off the horse, steadying Heero a moment later when he followed. "If you tend the horse, I can set up camp."
"All right," Heero agreed, stifling a yawn.
Once he finished, he joined Duo inside the tent and blinked. "There's only one sleeping roll."
"I only packed one." Duo handed him a slice of bread and cheese.
"Of course. I should've remembered." Heero yawned and Duo nudged him towards the bed.
"Sit and eat." He instructed and Heero did as he asked, yawning between bites. He was too tired to protest when Duo joined him on the blankets, tugging his boots off and dimming the lantern.
"Sleep," Duo told him, lying down on the blankets beside him. "You're safe."
Heero smiled as he closed his eyes. "I know. You're here."
Duo waited until Heero's breathing evened out. "I'm glad you finally realized that," he said softly in the dark. "Now we just need to work on all the rest."
