A Slightly Sap-Covered Author's Note: Oi, do you guys know how much trouble I went through to find a good song for this chapter!? I actually had to listen to... ominous musical cue Boy bands! *shudder* I should kill you all slowly... but since I survived, I guess you get to survive as well. Besides, if I killed you all for making me listen to the Backstreet Boys, then who would review my fic, ne?
I changed a few words in this fic to make it fit. Deal with it. ^_-
You Think You're a Man Part 2
You are Everything
/ Today I saw somebody
who looked just like you
he walked like you too
I thought it was you /
~Duo?~
The braided boy was walking a few yards ahead of Heero. Heero hadn't noticed him until just then, because his eyes were at his feet. He walked with his head down, his hands in his pockets. He felt like his heart and soul had been ripped into a thousand pieces and stuck into a blender on high speed, but he didn't know that he felt it. All he knew was that his heart hurt... and that he had had way too much to drink the night before. His head was throbbing. When he lifted his eyes, all he saw was a fuzzy vision of a boy with a long chestnut braid swinging jauntily about twelve feet in front of him.
/ As he turned the corner
I called out your name
I felt so ashamed
when it wasn't you
wasn't you... /
As the boy turned the corner, Heero ran up to him.
~Now's the time to tell him. I can do it. I will do it. In front of all these people, if I have to. Courage, Yuy. Aishiteru isn't even three words. Only one. And you can say it. You can.~
"Duo!" He reached over and grabbed the braided boy's shoulder, whirling him around. Suddenly, he found himself face to face with a pair of very angry blue-green eyes the color of seawater, and a switchblade flickered out into the dying twilight, coming to a stop beneath Heero's chin.
~ ...Not Duo. A mistake... ~
"What the fuck do you think you're doin', man? Never sneak up on someone like that here! If it'd be somebody different, your guts might have ended up on your fuckin' boots. Who the fuck are you?!" The boy glowered at Heero with a suspicion that--in Heero's vast experience--could only be found on L2.
"Hn. Gomen nasai. My mistake."
The boy gave him a confused look and knitted his eyebrows, turning to walk away. "Whatever, man..." As Heero got a closer look at the boy, he saw that the boy really didn't look a lot like Duo at all.
/ You are everything
everything is you
Oh, you are everything
everything is you
Oh, you are everything
everything is you... /
~ ...Hm. Now who's the baka? You're stopping complete strangers in the street.~
/ How can I forget
when each face that I see
Brings back memories
of being with you /
Heero walked on, dejected. Since walking out on Duo (Not walking out on him, he kicked you out, get it straight, Heero no baka!) he had begun to take long walks during the hot, slow twilight hours of the L2 night, right before the clubs started hopping and the churches started having Mass. There was three things the poor Americans of L2 had no shortage of, and that was strip joints, dance clubs, and churches. It seemed as if the L2 natives attended both clubs and churches with the same amount of devoted intensity.
So he walked now, feeling comfortable in the blistering heat even though it sometimes made his head spin and his ears ring. Especially because it made his ears ring. That way, he couldn't hear himself think.
He walked over a lot of L2 in that week that he and Duo separated, a narrow-shouldered, short teenage boy with unruly brown hair, penetrating cobalt eyes, and hands that were still capable of killing someone at least ten different ways.
/ living life as I do
Comparing each guy to you
no they just won't do
they're not you... /
He had walked far today, ending up on The Underground, a long strip of clubs running along one side of the busy L2 Midway.
Suddenly, he saw a sight that almost made his heart stop in his chest.
~That is Duo!!~
He saw the braided pilot, and even though Duo's back was turned to him, Heero knew that he was correct this time. It was Duo; Heero recognized his catlike, seductive sort of walk, the shirt he was wearing. Heero was right this time. And he would tell Duo what he felt now. He could do it.
Before he could run over to Duo, the braided pilot slipped into a dance club.
~Dammit! I'll never find him in there... but I've got to try.~
Heero gave himself a check over. Black leather jacket, black muscle shirt with the sleeves torn off, jeans with a hole in the left knee.
~Hm. Looks like Duo's wardrobe has rubbed off on you... ~
Heero had to smile just a little in spite of himself. The gesture felt stiff and unnatural on his face; he had a feeling that it was more of a I'm-about-to-kill-someone smile than a I-just-had-a-funny-thought smile. So it faded as soon as it touched his eyes.
He walked over to the club. The bouncer took one look at him and let him through.
/ You are everything
everything is you
Oh you are everything
everything is you
Oh you are everything
everything is you
You are everything
everything is you... /
