Battlestar Andromeda Part 17
Battlestar Andromeda
Medical Bay
The next morning Dr. Po found Heero still sitting by the accelerator tube only this time sound asleep. Walking over to the scanner, she checked the readings from the night before. Everything was looking good and they were going to bring the Commander out of the tube in about two hours. Looking over at the sleeping man she smiled. He had not moved at all from that spot since yesterday. She briefly wondered what had caused the problems between them. It was obvious that the Ambassador loved the Commander very much. She hoped that the Commander's brush with death would help them to resolve their problems, then maybe that sad look that seemed permanently etched on the Commander's face would leave.
Hearing the rustling movement around him, Heero woke immediately looking over at Duo. His husband looked so peaceful lying in the tube. It reminded him of the early day's of their marriage when he would awake and watch his husband sleep for hours. It was one of his favorite memories of their time together. However, as much as he liked to see this peaceful Duo he would rather have him awake and in another place other then the medical bay. Even if it meant that they had to go back to the way things were when he first boarded ship.
"How is he doing Dr.?" Heero asked quietly as he watched her write on Duo's chart.
"Everything is going along as scheduled. His vitals are fine and the scans show that everything has healed properly. We will be taking him out of the tube in about two hours." she said.
"What happens then?"
"Then we wake him up and monitor his vitals signs. If all goes well he will be allowed back into his quarters by tomorrow night. He won't be able to go back to active duty for a few days but once I give him the ok he will be able to do anything he was doing before the accident." A sudden thought came to Sally. "However, he will still need to be watched for those few days. I just want to make sure that he has healed from his concussion. I will probably send one of the med techs to stay with him."
"That won't be necessary." Heero said. "I will stay with him and make sure that he does what he is supposed to. I know from experience how difficult Duo came be when he has been hurt."
Sally struggled to keep the smile off of her face. "Well if you are sure. I mean I don't want to take you away from your duties as Ambassador."
"I am positive. I will be able to work from his quarters while he is sleeping."
"Fine. I will note that in his chart." she said. She then left the med bay, leaving Heero to his vigil.
Two hours later she returned and started the preparations for shutting down the acceleration tube. Shutting down the tube had to be done very carefully. If it was done to quickly the person inside could suffer from a heart attack or stroke from being brought out of the deep sleep. She slowly turned the dial, bringing the Commander from the deep sleep to one that was similar to a normal nights sleep. Once satisfied that the Commander's vital signs and brain waves were still stable she opened the lock on the unit. Then she and two med techs carefully lifted him out of the unit and onto a normal hospital bed. Checking his vitals one last time she then took a syringe and giving him the shot in the arm, waited for the medicine to take effect. The total process took exactly one hour.
During the entire process Heero stood in the corner out of the way of the doctor. He felt his heart begin to race when he watched Sally give Duo the shot that would wake him up. As soon as she stepped back he rushed forward and grabbed Duo's hand. He let out the breath he wasn't aware he was holding when Duo's eyelids started to flutter.
"Duo." Heero said. "Come on Duo wake up. Duo."
Duo slowly woke up a frown forming on his face. His last thoughts were of his fighter plane losing power and the wall of the landing tube coming towards him too fast. He swore that he could hear Heero calling him but thought it must be a dream. Heero was angry at him and he knew that he wouldn't be near him now. Tears formed in his eyes as he replayed the look on Heero's face right before he left him in the garden. He wished he could tell Heero how sorry he was for hurting him and to tell him that he still loved him, had always loved him.
"Duo, please wake up." came a whispered voice near his ear.
Duo slowly opened his eyes and looked into the beautiful cobalt blue of Heero's. Thinking that he was dreaming he blinked a few more times. When the eyes never left his, he slowly raised his free hand to Heero's face. 'He looks tired.' Duo thought. When the hand on Heero's face suddenly became wet it slowly dawned in his drugged mind that they were tears. His arm became heavy and flopped back down on the bed. His eyes started to close again only to open back up when he heard his name called.
"Duo." Heero said.
"Heero?" Duo whispered hoarsely.
"Yeah, it's me." Heero said. "How are you feeling?"
"M'sleepy." Duo murmured.
Heero looked over at Dr. Po who nodded and said, "This is to be expected. He will most likely sleep for the rest of the day."
Heero looked back down at Duo and said. "It's ok love. Go back to sleep. I will be here when you wake up."
Duo slowly closed his eyes, secure in the knowledge that Heero would be here when he awoke again. "I love you." he whispered.
Heero felt tears start to fill his eyes and he had to blink a few times to keep them from falling. He knew that it was the medicine talking but after three years of not hearing those words he just wanted, for one moment, to believe that Duo had meant them. He sat down in the chair next to the bed all the while holding Duo's hand.
"You love him don't you?" asked Sally quietly.
"I never stopped loving him. Even after he left I still hoped that he would come back to me."
"How did you meet?" she asked.
"It was the day of his graduation from the Space Academy. He looked so beautiful in his dress uniform. I fell in love with him that day." Heero looked over at Duo and said softly, "I was the luckiest man in the world when he agreed to be my husband."
Sally was quiet for a moment and then she said, "You know, I can remember when the Commander first came on board here. He had such a sad, lost look in his eyes. He always kept to himself, never seen in any of the clubs on the bottom level. I also know that he never dated anyone here on board and he had plenty of opportunities."
Heero felt like his heart would burst at those words. Did Duo still love him? Was there a chance for them to finally put all of this behind them and have the happy life they once dreamed of? This time he didn't stop the tears from streaming down his face. Heero, at that moment, realized that he would do anything to get his husband back.

Captains Quarters
Zechs woke with a pounding headache and severe cotton mouth. He slowly opened his eyes and looked at the alarm clock on his nightstand. 'Damn,' he thought to himself, 'It's almost noon.' He was so glad that he had today off as the pounding in his head would have made work unbearable. Moaning, he rolled over on the bed and slowly got up working his way towards the bathroom.
Leaning his head on his arm, Zechs let the hot water work on his headache. He stayed in that position for many long minutes. He knew that he was avoiding Wufei but he couldn't seem to help himself. Yesterday he had almost given into his desires for the man. It was getting harder and harder for him to hide his desires for Wufei. As his headache began to recede his thoughts began to clear and soon he had a plan formulated for today. He would take Wufei on a tour of the ship and keep them both far away from the temptation of his quarters. With that plan in mind he quickly finished his shower and returned to his bedroom to dress. As he walked into his living quarters he saw that Wufei was sitting on the couch watching the door.
"Good morning Wufei."
Wufei jumped up from the couch and said with a lowered head, "Good morning master. Did you sleep well?"
"As well as can be expected after last night." replied Zechs. "I thought that today I would take you on a tour of the ship. This way you will know where everything is in case I am not around."
Hours later, after an extensive tour of his new home, Wufei sat in one of the smaller dining halls as his master went to get them something to drink. He had enjoyed spending time with his master and seeing all of the various parts of the ship. He had met so many people that he knew he would not be able to remember them all. While part of him missed his home planet he also found that he was looking forward to his new life here on this ship.
Suddenly Wufei started feeling dizzy. Looking down at his hands he noticed that they were shaking uncontrollably. Realization dawned on him that they had been away from his master's quarters all day and that it was past his time to take his medicine. He looked back over at his master and wondered how he was going to convince the man to take him back to their quarters. Slowly he started to stand up only to be hit with pain so hard it doubled him over. As his eyesight started fading to black he dimly heard a voice call his name.
Zechs stood at the refreshment station pouring drinks for the both of them when he turned to look at Wufei. He noticed that Wufei was suddenly very pale. Thinking that is was just fatigue from the day he turned to grab the drinks when out of the corner of his eye he watched Wufei start to stand before doubling over. Dropping the drinks he raced over towards the table only to watch Wufei starting to fall to the floor.
"Wufei!"
