The Wedding Plotter Part 4

Relena smiled up at Wufei as he led her around the dance floor. "Wasn't it a lovely ceremony?"

"Yes," he muttered, still unable to look her in the eye. Why had the woman requested a dance with him in the first place? He wondered if any of Quatre's siblings were leaving that night, thus leaving an empty room in the house that he could request Relena be put in. she'd be perfectly safe among all of Quatre's Magunacs and security.

"You're still embarrassed aren't you?"

He froze for a moment and then glared down at her. "About what?"

She just rolled her eyes. "You know about what. You shouldn't be. There was nothing for you to be ashamed about."

Wufei felt his face get red. She wasn't implying-? No. Not Relena. Not in the middle of a public place. She was a well-brought up young lady. He must have misheard her.

"Really there wasn't," she continued and gave him a mischievous smile. "The view was quite good."

Nope. She'd said it.

"Oh, don't look like that. It's not like I haven't seen unclothed men before." She smiled wider. "And I heard you were married at one time- so you must've let..."

"My wife and I were very young," he interrupted her. "It was an arranged marriage and we didn't get along." That wasn't strictly true, but at least it got the woman to stop looking so smug.

"I am very sorry," Relena looked contrite and Wufei felt a little better.

"It was a long time ago."

She nodded and then gave him a sly look from under her eyelashes. "But- since then... I mean, you're a very good looking man- someone must have..."

"I don't have time. My work keeps me busy."

Relena smiled again. "I can understand that. I have that problem myself. It gets lonely at times."

That he could understand. "It does, but we must console ourselves that it is worthwhile work that we do, and take comfort in our friends."

"I agree." The music ended and he let her go. She smiled up at him serenely and his heart did a strange half-skip. "I look forward to continuing our friendship Wufei. I am sure you will be a great comfort to me."

He blinked. She didn't mean-?

With that half smile on her lips, Relena turned to seek another partner, leaving Wufei staring after her.

Duo found a small, unoccupied corner of the room and breathed a sigh of relief. The wedding had gone well- the only small glitch was when he nearly missed his cue.

It hadn't been his fault. Heero had been standing opposite him, behind Trowa's shoulder and Duo had found it very difficult to keep his eyes off of him. He tried, but they kept wandering back.

Heero had caught him at it just as the celebrant had requested the rings. He'd smiled and Duo had forgotten for a moment what he was supposed to do.

After that, he'd kept his eyes on the ceremony. Just in case. He didn't want Heero to think he was mooning over him like some lovesick fool...

Even if he was.

"There you are," a warm voice said in his ear and Duo turned to find Heero behind him. "I really liked your speech."

Duo managed a smile. "I'm glad. I was nervous."

"It didn't show. You did great."

Duo knew his face was turning a faint pink, and he tried hard to will it away.

Heero continued: "I wanted to ask you something."

"Okay."

"Were you serious about applying for my company?"

Duo bit his lip, wondering why Heero was asking. Had he changed his mind? "Well, yes, but if you'd rather I didn't..."

"No, no, no. It's not that I don't want you there. I do. Want you." Heero closed his mouth and shook his head. "I'm messing this up. It's just- after this morning, I was... well. I was hoping you were serious." He sighed and ran a hand through his bangs. "I'm screwing this up, aren't I?"

A flood of relief swept through Duo. "No- you aren't. I was kinda hoping you were serious too..."

Heero met his eyes. "Very. I have been for a long time."

"You... really?"

"Yes."

Duo smiled. "Then I'd better get my resume together. It sounds like I'm going to be changing jobs soon, looking for a place to live."

"You can stay with me."

Quatre smiled at his new husband as they moved across the floor. "What do you think?"

"Well, considering how Wufei's watching Relena and how Duo has Heero pinned up against the wall... I'd say it all worked rather well, my devious love." Trowa smiled. "So, you win, eloping wouldn't have been this much fun."

"I'm not done yet." Quatre grinned back. "I still have some plans in store."

"Really?" Trowa looked puzzled. "But-"

"Plans for you."

"Ah, in that case- think we can sneak out of here?"

"Thought you'd never ask."
