This is the Ghost Rider/GW crossover universe. Duo of course is The Rider- and Heero is based on this guy.

The Rider Part 2
Undead Swashbucklers

"Another one for the spook file," Wufei said as he tossed the file folder onto Duo's desk.

"What is it this time? Ghosts? Demons? Sons of Satan? Or just another flaming motorcycle?" Duo asked as he picked up the folder and flipped it open.

I choked on my coffee and cast a look at my partner. He was reading the first page with a slight frown.

"None of the above." Wufei laughed. "Read it and let me know what you think. I'm headed out for lunch- you two want anything?"

"No thanks," I replied when it looked like Duo was already immersed in the file. "We're good."

Wufei left and I studied my partner- what was in the file that had him looking like that? I got up from my chair and went to lean over his shoulder.

"This can't be real," I said after I scanned the page.

"It's several reports."

"It has to be costumes."

"They shot at one and nothing happened."

"They missed- or the perps are wearing body armor."

He grinned up at me. "For someone who wouldn't be here if it weren't for the supernatural, you really aren't a believer."

"Duo, it's a bunch of dressed up thieves targeting people on boats. You don't honestly think it's a bunch of zombie pirates?"

"It couldn't hurt to check it out. If it is a bunch of thieves, then they need to be caught. And..."

"And if it's zombies, what exactly are we going to do? Zombies don't have souls."

"Ah hah- see, you are taking this seriously! You do believe in zombies!"

"Well, I've seen a few- I just don't think they'd be out on the water. I mean... they'd dissolve or something."

He rolled his eyes. "They're not made of salt, Heero. Besides, souls or not, they'd still burn right? And I'm sure you can roll out a few incantations? We have tomorrow off... Come on- we'll go out, hunt down the zombies- it will be fun."

I rolled my eyes back at him. "You know, when we started this dating thing, I kept thinking that it would be nights out at the movies, maybe a burger after... but it's just nights out hunting down things from the spook file."

"We can get a burger afterwards! Hell, I'll even take you out to a nice restaurant if you want."

"Duo, have you ever been around zombies? Ever?"

"No. Why?"

"You aren't going to want dinner after. Or before. In fact, after lunch, just don't eat anything. Just in case."

"That bad?"

"That bad."

"You have to admit, this is pretty nice." Duo cut the motor, letting the boat drift.

"It is," I looked up at the star-filled sky. "If only we weren't out here waiting for undead swashbucklers. Are you sure this is the place?"

"Two boats were hit in this vicinity."

I sighed and made myself more comfortable against the railing. "By the way- I never read the whole file- did the attackers just make off with the valuables- or did they try to eat the people on the boats?"

"Just valuables, why?"

"Can't be zombies then."

"Zombies always eat people?"

"All the ones I ran across did- or tried to."

Duo settled in beside me. "Maybe these ones are vegetarians. Or only hungry for treasure?"

"What would dead people want with money? You can't take it with you after all."

"Better tombstones..." Duo paused, frowning.

"What?"

He looked at me and I saw the bones start to glow beneath his skin. Crap. It had to be real zombies if this was happening...

"Damn it," I summoned my own fire and examined the water around us. Nothing...

"Below..." Duo grated and then the zombies were upon us.

Luckily, Duo had been right about the burning part. His fire was enough to torch them, and we managed to keep from torching the boat in the process.

"Only four?" He asked as I knelt by one of the piles of ashes.

"I think so." I poked carefully at one and muttered a short spell. "Hm. They weren't raised too far from here- someone directed them." I gave him a faint smile. "Feel like taking a quick look before whoever raised them realizes they aren't coming back?"

"Let's go."

"How do you want your burger sir?" The waitress asked me with a smile.

"Well done, please." I replied and handed her the menu. She assured us that she'd be right back with our order and left.

Duo leaned over the table. "You don't usually want your burgers well done."

"I don't usually go out for burgers after dealing with rotting corpses." I shook my head and sighed. "You couldn't have picked a place with salad on the menu?"

He laughed. "It was the first place I saw! I was starving. That idiot in the graveyard wore me out."

"I'm amazed he could run like that. Most of the time they just sort of stand there and stare at you."

"You could've helped."

"It was more fun watching you," I teased. "Besides, you caught him before he even got near his car."

Duo chuckled as the waitress reappeared with our drinks. "Admit it," he said when she left. "You had fun."

"Oh great fun. Dealing with zombie pirates, chasing a guy through a cemetery-"

His expression altered slightly. "I did tell you that my night job could be a problem... back before we started all this..."

I leaned across the table and grabbed his wrist. "Duo, I don't have a problem with the job- or you. Some things need to be done. It's just... it's okay to take a night off now and again..." I squeezed his wrist and he smiled at me. "Or to just do what we're doing now. Working things in around the night job. I don't care- as long as I'm with you, it's all good."

His smile brightened. "I'm glad." He turned his hand just enough to squeeze back. "Cause... well, Wufei brought this other file in yesterday afternoon... when you were in your meeting with Une...?"

"Is it zombies again?"

He shook his head. "Oh no. Just a few demons. Right up your alley...."
