razberrycreme asked for Heero/Duo and sand. I'm not sure this exactly is what you had in mind sweetie, but I think I spent a little too much time with Bri and his Naruto tapes today! If you'd prefer another, just ask!

Heero of the Sand

"He's my sparring partner?!?" Duo pointed at the boy standing on the beach and looked at me in dismay. "You've got to be kidding me!"

"Not in the slightest, m'boy." I slapped him on his orange clad shoulder. "You said you wanted training. You said you wanted a good sparring partner." I sat down on the sand and pulled out my book. "Besides," I told him cheerfully, "he was the only one who volunteered."

Which wasn't the whole truth, but Duo needed to spar with some different people. He'd fallen into a small rut of late, and I intended to shake him out of it.

"That's Heero." Duo growled at me. My my, he was out of temper today.

"Yes." I looked down at my book.

"Of the SAND!"

"Yes." I grinned, glad my hat shielded me from my student's glare. "I'm glad you remember him. I'm not sure why you're worried. He just came to spar. Didn't even bring any sand with him."

"We're on a beach!" Duo pointed out. "He didn't need to!"

"Oh yes, that might be why."

We were really on the beach because it was far away from all of the settlements. Just in case the boys got a bit too exuberant.

Duo inhaled sharply and turned to look at Heero who was looking faintly amused. He sure had changed a lot after meeting up with my student, but then Duo had that effect on everyone. Well, almost everyone...

"Worried?" Heero smirked, his black-ringed eyes narrowing slightly. "I promise I won't kill you."

"As if you could." Duo retorted. "That's not what I'm worried about- and you know it!"

The smirk on the other's face widened. "I don't remember you complaining at the time."

Duo turned bright red and opened his mouth. Heero tilted his head slightly towards me, and I wondered why.

Duo closed his mouth and glared instead.

Hm, now that was interesting. What was I not supposed to know about?

Sand began to swirl around Heero's ankles. "Shall we begin?"

Duo frowned and went into a defensive crouch. "It won't end like last time."

"I certainly hope not," Heero retorted. "You had no stamina at all."

I blinked. That had sounded almost like... No. No, it couldn't be. Not Duo who chased after Lena like a puppy...

Then again... Duo was turning that interesting shade of red again. He yelled something I couldn't make out and launched himself at Heero.

I watched as they exchanged blows- nothing serious, nothing at killing-strength. In fact, despite Duo's still-red face the two of them seemed to be enjoying it. Good. I got to my feet and tucked my book away. The boys could spend the afternoon beating each other up- I intended to go to the baths.

I headed back up the trail, keeping one ear tuned to the fight as I let my mind wander off on more pleasant tangents.

Which is why when the tone of the fight changed, I missed it at first- then it stopped me dead in my tracks.

That wasn't fighting chakra anymore...

Well, well. Another good reason for keeping them away from the villages. Who knew the kind of damage the two of them would cause doing that together?

I smiled and started walking again. Looked like I wouldn't have to worry about Duo bugging me for more lessons until tomorrow at the earliest... and he would need a trip to the baths too...
