zerotwofan asked for Heero/Duo and fireworks. This turned out a wee bit cliche... sorry about that!
Fireworks
Duo leaned back into Heero's arms and looked up. "Any second now..."
Heero hummed against his neck in agreement, pulling the blanket closer around them. The night was slightly chilly, and since there was no one else on their hilltop, they could cuddle as much as they wanted. "I'm glad we managed to get here this year."
"Me too. For the first time we're not out on assignment, not in the hospital, not protecting 'Lena at her annual party... hey, was she mad we said no?"
Heero shook his head. "Not at all. She told me to tell her about it later since she always misses them too."
"I noticed- there's always someone wanting to talk to her- even then." Duo huffed. "Makes me glad you aren't a politician. I'd hate to have to share you like that."
"Ditto."
The night sky above them suddenly exploded with golden light.
For just a moment, Duo felt Heero tense. He reached up and cupped Heero's cheek as the firework fizzled down in streams of colored light. Another one exploded in a burst of green, and Heero relaxed.
"Sorry," he murmured.
"Nothing to be sorry for," Duo assured him, letting his fingers caress Heero's face before pulling them back under the blanket.
The fireworks continued their dazzling display, one after the other, a display of light and joy that lit up the sky. Celebrating the peace that still held even now. Duo watched the show, enjoying the spectacle, but also the feeling of being in Heero's arms, sharing this short rest with the one he loved the best.
When the last of the light faded from the sky, and the sound of the explosions died away, Duo turned just enough to catch Heero's mouth with his own.
"What do you think? Worth watching?" He said after a long moment, wondering what Heero had been thinking about as the fireworks had lit up the sky.
"Yes," Heero smiled at him, claimed another kiss. "Maybe we should ask for next year off too," he suggested as he pulled Duo back onto the grass with him.
"Sure..." Duo caught his breath as Heero's fingers went to work on his buttons. "I'd like that." Heero's hand slipped under his shirt, his fingertips cold against Duo's warm skin. "Ah," he gasped. "What are you doing?"
"I thought I might try creating some fireworks of my own...." Heero gave him a mischievous smile. "Feel like helping?"
