"Quick, get the heater on!" Duo slammed the door of the van shut and dropped his duffel on the floor.
Heero shook his wet hair out of his eyes and turned the key in the ignition. "I'd try to drive us down the mountain but-" He turned the overhead light on and gave his partner an apologetic look.
"Better not," Duo shivered and leaned close to the vents. "There were reports that some of the roads got washed out." He peered through the windows, squinting through the rain coated glass. "How do you think the others are doing?"
"Well, if their tents came from the same place ours did, I'd say they're a little wet." Heero kicked off his boots and pulled off his soaked socks. "How's your ankle?"
Duo made a face. "Sprained, I think. Don't suppose you have a med kit somewhere in here?"
Heero nodded towards the second row of seats. "Under that one, I think." He leaned over and unzipped his duffel. "Hn. Most of my stuff in here is still dry. How's yours?"
Unzipping his bag, Duo looked a little more cheerful. "Mine feels dry too. First thing that's gone right on this damn team building trip."
"Get changed and then we'll deal with your ankle."
They changed quickly, peeling off their wet clothes and exchanging them for dry. Heero produced an empty trash bag to put their wet clothes in.
"You are prepared for everything." Duo teased as rubbed a towel over his hair, trying to squeeze out the water.
"Try to be," Heero flashed him a quick smile as he pulled on a dry pair of socks. Sliding out of the driver's seat, he moved back to the second row of seats and yanked a med kit out from under one. "Ready to deal with your ankle?"
"Please." Duo twisted around in his seat and lifted his leg so that Heero could wrap his ankle. "Have I mentioned that I love your new van?"
"Said the man who asked me ten times why I bought such a thing."
"Well, now I know why. Sleeping in these seats will be ten times better than sleeping in that pond our tent is now sitting in."
"Especially since that," Heero nodded towards the bench seat in the back, "turns into a bed?"
"It does?"
"Slides flat. Has blankets underneath."
"You really are prepared for everything."
Heero's smile appeared again. "Well, I admit it. I read the weather reports for this weekend."
"And you didn't warn Une?"
"I tried. She said the weather was unpredictable and her reports said it would be warm and sunny."
Duo cast a glance out the windows at the raging storm. "That looks pretty unpredictable, all right."
"How does that feel?" Heero asked as he finished wrapping Duo's ankle.
"Better. Can't believe I managed to make it through that stupid obstacle course but then twisted my ankle running for the van."
"The ground was wet," Heero consoled. Carefully, he moved Duo's foot off his knee and went to pull the back seat flat.
"You don't suppose she's going to make us do more of that team building stuff tomorrow?" Duo asked as he leaned back against the dash, trying to soak in more heat.
"I can't see how she could," Heero snapped a blanket over the makeshift bed. "Then again, making us all bunk down on top of a mountain in leaky tents during a hailstorm could be considered a team building activity. Maybe she'll surprise us."
"Hailstorm?" Duo repeated and then he heard it too- the tiny little pings on the roof of the van. "Brrr. You know, next time Une talks about a 'break from the office', let's try to talk her into another softball game, okay?"
"That softball game turned into a brawl," Heero chuckled and turned, reaching for Duo. "Need a hand?"
"Thanks." Duo let Heero pull him to his feet and hopped to the back seat with Heero's support. "Hey, this isn't too bad," he said as he stretched out on the cushioned seat.
"Good." Heero checked the locks, flipped off the light and turned the van off. He'd have to see about getting one of those battery heaters for the van- just in case. Maybe a cooling unit too.
He slid in next to Duo and wrapped himself around his partner. "Still cold?"
"Not really." Duo edged closer. "Though... there is something you could do to get me really warm...though I don't suppose we could do it now..."
"Is there?" Heero tugged the end of Duo's tangled braid. "And what would that be?"
Shifting in an unmistakable way, Duo turned so that he was nose to nose with Heero. "You know damn well what- but someone said that since this was an official trip we had to be professional and so I left the supplies at home."
Heero reached up to pop the compartment by his head open. "I thought you knew I was always prepared?"
