Abracadabra Halloween Drabble 2

The hallways of my building were full of kids running up and down, ringing doorbells, shrieking at the top of their lungs. It wasn't exactly what I wanted to come home to after a week away, but I was so happy to be home that I didn't really mind.

Even if all the yelling was making my head ache.

When I got to my hallway, I wasn't surprised to see a cluster of kids around the door. Heero, being what he is, usually comes up with something pretty awesome for Halloween, and it's always dismissed as just a 'great trick'.

As I got closer, I watched as one of the kids yelled: "Trick or Treat!" at our door. A transparent glowing hand slid out through the wood and dropped a small handful of candy into the waiting bucket.

This of course, produced a round of shrill squeals of delighted fear. I hoped Heero had earplugs I could use- I wouldn't be able to rest with this sort of fuss all evening.

Luckily, when I got close, a few of the kids recognized me and moved out of the way. "Let him go in!" They admonished the few who whined.

I felt around in my pocket for my keys unsuccessfully. Where the hell had I put them? Giving up, I tapped on the door with my knuckles. "It's Duo," I said. "I can't find-"

I didn't have a chance to finish my sentence before the ghostly hand reached out and yanked me through the door.

Heero was on the other side, smiling. "There you are," he said and pulled me into a hug. I rested against him, happy to be home.

"Don't ever let me say yes to another newbie training trip," I told him and he chuckled.

"I told you to say no this time."

"I know, I know..." Something was nagging at the edges of my brain, and it took a moment to surface. "Wait a minute- that last trick you did should've sent the kids off...How come it's so quiet in here?"

"I soundproofed the door. Anything non-emergency is screened out. I knew you'd be tired when you got home."

Gratitude flooded me. "I love you. If I wasn't so tired- and if you didn't have to answer the door..."

"I don't have to answer the door. It's running on its own." Heero chuckled in my ear. "And I think I can do a few things to help you with that tiredness...."

Sometimes it's nice to have a magician for a boyfriend.
