Slow and Steady Bonus Scene 3
"I'm not ordering that, Maxwell."
"Aw, come on, Wufei. People order stuff like this all the time, and no one finds it weird."
"If you want it, you can order it yourself."
"Aw, geez." Duo glanced over his shoulder, back at the house.
Wufei rolled his eyes, ever so slightly. "Surely you can stand to be away from him for half an hour."
Duo looked like he was going to make a snarky comment back at him, but then he turned back to the house, shoulders hunched, and stuck his head in the door. "I'm going with Wufei!" he shouted. Assuming his message was received, he went back to the car and got in, looking faintly disgruntled.
"You don't have to come with me," Wufei said as he started the car.
Duo stayed silent until they were underway. "It's not that... I mean, I'm not..." He sighed. "I'm not being gross and sappy. It's just... I gotta hand him over to one of Quatre's men for transport back up tomorrow."
"It made more sense than flying him back up yourself."
"I know," he said impatiently. "But then he's... he's gonna be up there."
"And you're going to be down here?"
"Yes!" He blew up into his bangs as he slid down a centimeter lower in his seat. "I told him it was just a logistical issue, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna..."
"Miss him?"
"I just wanna... you know. Be with him. While he... gets back on his feet. Calls aren't gonna cut it. I wanna see that happen. I wanna... I want to see him walk across a room unassisted, and be there to catch him on the other end. I want... I want a lot of things," he concluded quietly.
Wufei had no answer to that.
"Hey. Can I borrow your brain for a bit?"
"For what?"
"Could you... You're good at figuring stuff out. Help me come up with ways to get me sent up there once in a while. Twice in a while, even. L1, L2, Moon Base, whatever. Just... you know. Somewhere close."
"I'll see what I can come up with," Wufei promised.
