Two Flirting Doves Part 5

He expected Heero to open the door. He didn't expect Heero to open the door with an armful of happy puppy. "Hey, I didn't know you were puppy sitting today."

"Relena changed her mind at the last moment."

"Couldn't bear to leave the little guy all by himself for the weekend, eh?" He scratched the pup behind his big ears. The pup wriggled happily beneath the attention, so much so that Heero thought perhaps it was time to put him down after shutting the door. "Don't blame her."

"I hope this doesn't become a regular occurrence. Miles is well-behaved, so I don't mind watching him, but she'll have to be able to leave him at home in the future. She has staff to keep him company."

"You only have yourself to blame. You're the one that suggested getting a dog. I think maybe you meant for security purposes, but... hey, even retired queens need a corgi."

Miles ruffed in agreement.

Heero walked over to the space he'd cleared as a play area and sat down. The dog trotted along with him, then started sniffing around his toys. "Miles may still be able to serve in a security role. I'm not discounting him yet."

"That... would be awesome." Duo sat down with them and accepted the ball Miles nosed over. He tossed the ball off gently in a direction that held nothing that a puppy could make a mess of, and Miles pounced after it. "What are you thinking? Like, attack corgi? Or just like, intelligence analyst?"

"We'll see where his natural talents lie." Miles brought the ball back to Duo, but bounded over to Heero right after, nudging Heero's hand. Heero took the hint and gave him another good scratch. The resultant huge doggy smile was too much to resist, and Heero had to smile in return.

Duo couldn't help a smile, either. "I can see his first talent lies in being adorable."

"Adorable," Heero agreed amiably as the dog rolled over onto his back. Heero gave him a little tickle on his belly, and Miles' little legs churned excitedly in the air. "Adorable. And ridiculous. Sort of like you."

Duo stared at him, torn between outrage and hilarity. He looked at the corgi, who looked like he was having the time of his life from all the attention. He pursed his lips thoughtfully, then quirked a smile. "If I go along with this, will you rub my belly, too?"

Heero blinked up at him, then chuckled wryly. "Possibly."

He rolled onto his back. "Ruff!"

Miles echoed the sentiment.
