Christmas Virus

Duo turned onto his right side, curling up a little. There was music playing softly from the stereo and he could tell from the edges of the curtain that the sun was setting.

"Stupid," he muttered.

A moment later the door to his room eased open and he propped himself up.

"You're awake," Heero said. "How do you feel?"

"Okay," Duo said. "Yea, I'm up; it's boring here. I've been lying here practically all day."

Heero set the tray on the bedside table and sat down on the bed, reaching to touch Duo's forehead.

"You're still a little feverish. And you left the room for a few hours earlier," Heero pointed out.

"Yea, to lie down on the couch," Duo sighed.

"Want some soup?" Heero offered the bowl to Duo, so Duo sat up and took it. He sniffed it and sighed.

"Smells good." It had been a couple of days since food smelled good.

"Then eat up."

They ate while listening to the music and Duo snuggled up to Heero once they had set their bowls down.

"How are you feeling?" he asked softly.

"Okay," Heero replied, kissing the top of Duo's head. "I heard you say 'stupid' before I came in. What was stupid?"

"This! It wasn't supposed to be like this," Duo grumbled.

"What do you mean?"

"The Christmas virus," Duo explained. "Quatre sent me an email about avoiding the Christmas virus."

"And?"

"I thought he meant things like crazy shoppers, or an overdose of the music. From getting too hyped up about the low prices and buying tons of things that I might not need."

"But you did a lot of that," Heero pointed out. "You've had these two CDs on all day. And there happens to be two bags of knick knacks sitting on one of the kitchen chairs."

Duo pinched Heero with a huff. "I didn't expect him to mean this. Getting sick before Christmas and stuff. Heck, why couldn't it have been the next computer virus or something?"

Heero chuckled. "Well, I don't like the fact that you're sick, but a little down time sounds good to me."

"Down time is right, mister," Duo said, pushing Heero down. "You made dinner, so now, you lie down and I'll go do the dishes. I'm not the only one who caught the Christmas virus."

Heero chuckled. "It's not good to lie down right after a meal."

"Then sit up in bed." Duo got up and shivered, but he handed Heero's book to him before picking up the tray. He returned a short while later to find that Heero had taken a shower, and he took one while Heero had returned to reading his book.

Once he had finished, Duo slipped from the room to lock up the apartment before entering with another tray holding two cups of water, two spoons and a bottle of medicine.

Setting it on the bedside table, he crawled over Heero to settle on the other side, sliding his arms around Heero's middle and leaning on Heero's shoulder with a sigh.

Heero lifted his arm, slipping it around Duo's shoulder. "I'm not sure that it's wise for two sick people to stay in the same room."

"They do it in hospitals. Not everyone can afford paying for a private room."

"At least they have separate beds and curtains."

"If you want to sleep away from me, just say so," Duo huffed. "I'll sleep on the couch but I'm taking this blanket."

"I don't want you to sleep away from me," Heero replied, squeezing Duo in his embrace. "I just questioned the wisdom of our actions."

"I don't care," Duo said. "You're warm. That's all that matters. And getting better is all about resting. I get the best rest sleeping next to you."

"Me too," Heero admitted, kissing Duo's head and smiling when Duo kissed his neck. "Besides, you once told me that sharing is caring right?"

Duo snickered. "I don't think sharing bacteria counts, but hey, we're known to take things to the extreme, right?"

"You are."

"Me!"

"Like that time you took apart the entire computer when it was only a loose wire."

"Well, I was right that it was a hard drive issue."

"Duo, you took apart the entire hard drive."

"Yea? Well, how about that time you went in on that mission with full battle gear?"

"You always told me that it was better to be over prepared than under prepared."

"That's true, but not when the mission was to secure documents left in an abandoned warehouse."

"You never know whether..."

"The warehouse was abandoned because my team had taken all the bad guys into custody, and we had scanned it of any dangerous booby traps."

It was Heero's turn to huff, but then he smirked. "Well, I do learn from the very best."

"Blaming me, huh?"

Heero set the book down and wrapped his other arm around Duo before he kissed a warm forehead. "Well, I happen to love the very extreme you," he mused. "And I also do love you to the extreme."

"Being sick makes you mushy, doesn't it?"

"Maybe."

Duo chuckled. "I love you too, you know? Germs and all."

"You got sick to start with."

"No, Michelle's kid got sick first. That's the last time I'm ever doing someone else a favour related to kids and picking them up from school."

"Poor Duo, immune to the bad guys, but not a little boy's sneeze."

"Shut up," Duo sniffed, snuggling against Heero's warmth. "You weren't immune to my sneeze either."

"Maybe I don't want to be immune to anything of yours."

Duo laughed. "Listen to us! And we haven't even been doped up for the night yet!"

Heero couldn't help but smile as well and he passed Duo a tissue, waiting for him to blow his nose before he spoke. "Well, how about I read a little to you before we dope ourselves up and become even more sentimental?"

"All right," Duo agreed, pulling the blankets up a little higher. "If we can't use this down time to be physically intimate, at least we can be verbally intimate." He grinned when he heard Heero snort.

He was feverish, his nose and ears sometimes felt plugged up and his throat hurt just a little. But despite all of that, he was happy to spend the extra time with Heero, and he had to admit that Heero's slight fever made him all the warmer to snuggle up against.

So he'd managed to catch the Christmas virus, and he'd managed to share it with Heero...

But getting the chance to take care of Heero and be taken care of in return made it absolutely worth it.
