Men in Suits
"Tell me again why we have to wear that?" Duo asked.
Heero gave his own hair another brisk rub with the towel before turning to hang it up. "Because Quatre wants us to."
"And why is that?"
"Didn't we go through this already?"
"Actually, we were in the middle of it before you distracted me from the topic." Duo's eyes trailed down Heero's mostly naked body, save the towel around his waist. He wanted Heero again; never mind that they'd just had an extended shower where he'd had the time to express just how much he'd always want Heero.
Blue eyes caught his when he lifted his gaze to avoid temptation. Heero smirked. "I thought it was a good distraction?"
"It was," Duo sighed. "But really. I want to know why."
"Didn't you read his email?" Heero asked. "It's the-"
"Third annual W.E.I celebration ball since he became the chair," Duo recited. "How does that explain why he sent us suits? And matching ones to boot?"
Heero slipped an arm around Duo's waist. "Maybe he wants us to look like a couple?"
Duo snorted. "Right, a fivesome, like an orgy, since all five of us are wearing the same thing."
Heero paused, then shook his head. "No." He ran a hand down Duo's braid then turned to leave the bathroom. Duo followed.
"The truth is, Quatre's sister, that designer one? She made us the suits. That's why that tailor came over."
"And we don't own suits that fit us?" Duo asked. Then, he seemed to understand. "Oh. She wants us as a marketing scheme. Five ex-pilots all wearing the suit she designed."
"It's the first suit she's designed," Heero corrected. "Alina has done fairly well in designing for women. She's attempting to break into the male market."
Duo tugged on his boxers and then pulled the pants on. They were slightly loose around the waist and he frowned. "For a tailor-made pair of pants, they...don't fit all that well."
"You're wearing my pants." Heero said, holding his hand out with another pair of pants.
"Kinky," Duo chuckled, pulling them off again. He traded pants with Heero and waited for Heero to take a shirt before taking the second one. Heero was a little wider across the shoulders, something that Duo envied. Not that he didn't appreciate them on his lover, of course, but sometimes, wearing Heero's clothes made him feel a little small.
Not that he stopped wearing Heero's clothes either, but he didn't want to think about that at the moment.
He eyed the tie that was supposed to match with the suit and sighed as he buttoned up his shirt and tucked it into his pants. His eyes tracked Heero's movements as Heero tucked his own shirt in neatly and zipped up his pants before putting the belt on.
On the bright side, it'd probably be fun to take the entire ensemble off of Heero.
He pulled his mind from the gutter and slipped the tie around his neck. For a moment he felt stifled, but he'd worn the priest outfit for a couple of years, even if that was a few years ago, and that suit had a high collar that he was used to. He turned to the mirror and began to tie a Windsor knot, trying to remember which side was supposed to be the longer one, and just how long was that side supposed to be?
Heero looked at Duo as his lover tried to figure out the tie. He didn't have trouble with his own tie, and once he had it centered, he stepped behind Duo, taking a hold of the tie. Hands hesitated, and he pulled the tie from Duo.
"What are you doing?" Duo asked, watching as Heero tossed the tie onto their bed.
"Let's save that for later use," Heero said with a smirk. He turned Duo around to face him and undid the first few buttons.
"I thought the undressing should come after the party," Duo said.
Heero leaned down and pressed a kiss on the exposed skin. "I've gotten used to seeing this part of you," he said. "You haven't really worn a stifling shirt since your priest outfit and I think I prefer it if you left it open like this."
Duo chuckled. "And what would Alina think about my, or your, taking liberties with her outfit?"
Heero handed the blazer to Duo. "I think she'd be fine with it," he said honestly, watching as Duo put the blazer on and buttoned it up, then did the same himself.
Duo had to admit that the suit looked good on him and Heero. The material was soft and the suit didn't feel heavy on him. Lifting his arms, he found that it didn't really restrict his movement either; on top of that, he'd already noticed the pockets on the inside lining of the jacket.
"Does it suit your tastes, Mr. Maxwell?" Heero asked.
"It does," Duo said, appreciating the picture Heero presented. "You look good."
"I meant on yourself."
Duo chuckled. "Come on, let's go before we're late."
They pulled their socks and shoes on and headed out the door. Turning left to head down the hall, they were surprised to see Wufei just exiting his own room wearing the same suit.
"Looking good, Wufei," Duo whistled.
Wufei nodded his greeting to them both. "I see that you've taken liberties with the suit, Duo."
"Nope," Duo shook his head. "Why do you always assume that it's me? It was Heero's fault!"
"You happen to have a track record for that sort of stuff," Wufei said, looking a little surprised. "Shall we head down to the ballroom?"
"Where are Quatre and Trowa?" Heero asked.
"Probably downstairs already," Wufei answered. "Some of the guests should already be downstairs."
The large ballroom was not difficult to find, and Quatre's blonde hair was easy to spot. The three of them made their way to Quatre just as Trowa approached with two glasses of champagne.
"Quatre, are you starting the party without us?" Duo asked, grinning at his friend.
"Hey! You're all here," Quatre beamed. "Alina's design is great, isn't it? I didn't realize that she asked for this material for this purpose!"
"What do you mean?" Heero asked with a frown.
"W.E.I's subsidiary recently created this material," he said, gesturing to his suit jacket. "It was originally designed to be used as a light-weight type of curtain that could filter out sunlight fairly well while also being fireproof. It should have been good for homes, especially ones with children and such."
"We're...wearing curtains?" Wufei asked.
Quatre shook his head with a laugh. "Well, kind of. The patented material didn't make it to the drawing board for curtains before Alina snatched them up. Aside from the design, she's got a pretty good chance of introducing it to law enforcement forces due to its anti-fire properties. That's also why she put so many pockets on the inside of the jacket."
"We've already asked her to make them up for W.E.I's security," Trowa added. "We had no idea Alina was aiming to kill two birds with one stone."
"Design and practicality," Heero nodded. "And she'll probably be able to, with W.E.I's research and development team, make it more than just fire-proof, right?"
Quatre nodded. "It won't stop her designing other things, of course!" he smiled, waving and beckoning to someone; Alina, the other four noticed. "To the general public these are just suits designed by Alina Winner," he said softly.
"You're all here!" Alina said as she approached. "You look great!" she added as she looked each of them over with a critical eye.
Blue eyes shifted past Duo and back. Duo smiled his most charming smile, although the narrowed blue eyes looked about to send him back upstairs to get his tie.
Then, Alina was smiling. "Brilliant!" she said, reaching to fix Duo's shirt just a little and pulling the collar of his shirt out on top of the blazer. "A slightly more casual look! I'd stand the collars up even, if not for the setting we're in."
"The design is very nice," Wufei said politely. "Aside from all of the properties Quatre just told us about, you've also done the one thing that many suits lack; the flexibility we need to move."
"I'm glad you like it," Alina replied. "You, Duo Maxwell, are an inspiration! I'll send you the next outfit."
Duo grinned, not bothering to tell Alina that it was Heero's fault he wasn't wearing the tie. "I look forward to it!"
"Liar," Heero mumbled as Alina went to greet another friend. "You didn't even want to wear this suit."
"She didn't say she was sending me a suit next," Duo replied. "So yea, I do look forward to the next one. But if you think I lied..." Duo leaned closer, lowering his voice. "Does it mean you'll punish me later? I recall we left something on the bed..."
Heero pulled away, glaring half-heartedly at Duo. "Be good. The party only just started."
"You're right about that."
The evening carried on without any problems, although the five of them did find it slightly uncomfortable to have more than one person approach them to study the suit Alina had designed.
After Quatre had finished his speech, pledging a large sum to charity and briefly discussing upcoming plans for W.E.I, he returned to his friends with a grin.
"What do you say we take this party elsewhere?" he asked. "I haven't seen you guys in a while and we can't really talk much here."
"You aren't needed here?" Wufei asked, glancing at the large crowd. Quatre shook his head.
"This is an informal celebration and all the congratulations have pretty much been handed out. We'll come back in a little bit."
"Head out the door," Duo lifted his chin. "I'll be back in a moment." He was gone before any of the four men could ask him where he was going, so they slipped out the door.
Duo returned a moment later and held up his hand which was holding a bottle of champagne. "I doubt they'd miss one bottle from that table," he said with a grin.
"Let's head to my study and I'll get someone to send up five champagne flutes." Quatre said, gesturing towards the stairs.
"Wait!"
They turned at Alina's voice, only to see another girl with a large camera following them. Quatre groaned.
"Kateya! Haven't you taken enough pictures? We did notice you snapping them from across the ballroom."
Quatre's sisters shrugged. "I'm the photographer for Alina's clothing lines. I'm not missing this opportunity."
"No." Quatre glared, hoping to force Kateya into giving up.
"I promise they won't get leaked to the press."
"No."
"No one will see it! Just one. I'll even send you all copies of it."
"Kateya..."
"I'll send you all the ones I took of Trowa," Kateya grinned. "And I'll send you all the ones I took of Heero," she added to Duo.
"Deal!"
"Duo!" Heero tugged on Duo's braid.
"Come on, the longer you're here the more you might attract people to see what's going on," Alina said.
The five of them sighed and allowed Kateya to direct them into position.
"Cross your arms Trowa, good, Duo you're fine where you are. Heero, tilt your head down and let me see your eyes through your bangs. Quatre! Stand still! Wufei, I just need a moment," Kateya pleaded since Wufei looked impatient. "Just turn your head towards me..."
There was a moment of silence followed by several clicks of the camera.
"Perfect! These will look so good in my private portfolio!" Kateya grinned and waved at the five of them. "Go on and celebrate Quatre's and Alina's success! I'll get those champagne flutes up to you, even if I do know you're all underage!"
With that, Kateya took Alina by the arm and led her quickly back into the ballroom.
"You have pushy sisters," Wufei said as they walked upstairs.
"I know. Sorry about that," Quatre said. "But hey, Kateya is a really good photographer. I'll ask her to give me some copies and get them framed. We haven't taken a picture together in a long time and that was a perfect opportunity."
The champagne flutes arrived shortly after they entered the study and Duo poured the bubbly liquid into the beautiful glasses. He lifted his up.
"To Quatre, to W.E.I!" he said.
"To us!" Quatre added. "May we avoid Kateya long enough for her to give up asking us to be her models!"
There was silence for a moment before Duo spoke.
"...Man, I hope you're serious, Quatre! It'd be the perfect excuse for me to disappear with Heero for a year or so."
"I'm sure it can be arranged," Quatre said, eyes sparkling. "I've got the perfect place for us to head for a vacation for a while." He looked at Trowa, and then at Wufei. "What do you say we leave a note here and run away?"
The five of them regarded each other for a moment before five smiles crossed five lips.
"Let's go."
