Cleaning Day

Duo sipped his mug of coffee, glancing at the calendar on the fridge to see the marked 'X' and to ensure that today was the right day.

The first Saturday of each month was the unofficial Cleaning Day.

Today was the first Saturday of June. Duo glanced at Heero, who was reading the newspaper beside him. He took another sip of coffee. Heero and he had purchased this house together in January. It was small, consisting of two bedrooms upstairs, a study, kitchen and living room on the main floor, and a laundry and pantry in the basement. But it was theirs.

Needless to say, once they had settled, some rules had been laid down. There had to be two hampers of clothing, separating darks and lights. There must always be coffee ready in the morning, and no dishes were to be left overnight except under special circumstances. There must always be ice cream in the freezer.

And the first Saturday of each month was the unofficial Cleaning Day. This was not for the the usual cleaning, such as dishes, laundry, or even vacuuming and mopping. Cleaning Day meant vacuuming along the edges of the walls to clear the dust, taking out the crystals from the display case for cleaning, ensuring cleaning supplies were stocked for the next month, cleaning hard to reach places such as tops of shelves for dust, and even a thorough computer clean up, both internal and external. The fridge and freezer were to be emptied out and cleaned, proper foods stored back in and others thrown out. Windows, in and out, were to be cleaned, as was the car.

Heero replaced the newspaper on the table where Duo could read it later on. "Ready to start?" He nodded towards the list on the fridge.

"Yea." Duo nodded.

A few minutes later, Duo had put a bandana on his hair and was standing with Heero in front of the list. Both of them were wearing shorts and t-shirts, ready to tackle the list of chores. At their feet was a selection of cleaning tools and supplies.

"I'll start with the windows." Heero selected the first item on the list.

"I'll start with..." Duo scanned the list. "The crystals, all right? We can tackle the car together last."

"Sure." Heero nodded.

Duo picked up a special cloth for cleaning the crystals, then picked up one of the two bottles of glass cleaner. Heero took the other and immediately set to work on the kitchen window. Whistling to himself, Duo pulled out his music player and plugged in one of the earphones, leaving his other ear free to hear Heero or the phone, and set to work cleaning the crystals and the display case.

Two and a half hours later, a third of the list had been complete, and Duo had called Heero to join him in the kitchen for some lemonade. Heero appreciated the cool drink, and watched as Duo bustled around making sandwiches for their lunch. They took their sandwiches and drinks out to the backyard where they had set up a swing seat with a table to one side, and that was where they set their drinks before taking seats on the swing, stretching out their legs and eating their sandwiches.

"What do you want to tackle next?" Duo asked.

Heero chewed thoughtfully, glancing at his lover. "Maybe the sofa, and computer chairs, as well as the car's seats. Clean them all with the leather cleaner."

Duo nodded. "I'll get the wood cleaner and wipe down the banister and railings. Heero nodded, and after a short break in the sun, they set to work once agin.

~*~

Heero knew something was wrong. He'd cleaned all of the windows, wiped down all the kitchen counters and cabinet doors, and cleaned the shoe rack before lunch. After lunch, he had cleaned all that could be cleaned with the leather-cleaning mixture before he had cleared off the computer desk to wipe down the desk, then wiped down the shelves in the study that he and Duo shared.

And his lover had not once come to bother him.

He reflected back to the five other Cleaning Days they had in the past five months. Duo had come up with the idea, and had selected the date for the job. The first time, things had been rather hectic, and it was just into the second hour when Duo joined him in wiping the kitchen counters and cabinet doors.

They had ended up cleaning one counter and the cabinet door under it over again, because Duo had given him teasing touches and he had ended up taking his lover right there, against that counter.

On the second Cleaning Day, he had been cleaning the car's interior when Duo joined him, complaining that he was hungry for a snack since lunch had been eaten an hour and a half ago. He'd assured his lover that he was almost done with the seats and would make their snack shortly since Duo had prepared lunch, and gone back to work. Then he realized Duo had been hungry for him as a snack. Luckily, it had been a rainy day, and they had decided to tackle outdoor chores such as cleaning the car's exterior the next day. Heero had rather enjoyed letting Duo make him a snack before he had gone to wash his hands thoroughly, and taken a similar snack from his lover in their bedroom.

On the third Cleaning Day, Duo had jumped him as he was vacuuming the wall's ledges around the house, and had taken him there on the foor, with the vacuum still running several feet away from them. He began to see a pattern.

On the fourth Cleaning Day, he had been cleaning the crystals despite the innuendo Duo had dropped during lunch less than an hour ago. The braided man then joined him in cleaning the crystals before Heero found the soft cloth teasing his neck and arms, and eventually, other, more sensitive places. There was a definite pattern developing.

The fifth Cleaning Day, he had been clearing off the desk to wipe, and had ended up wiping more than dust off the surface, not that he was complaining. The pattern was confirmed.

The point was, they never finished the list in one day because of Duo's interventions, and each time he pointed that out, his lover would grin at him and state, "that's why today's the *unofficial* Cleaning Day."

The point was, the pattern that had clearly developed was not occurring.

Heero dropped the supplies he had been using back along with the rest on the kitchen floor, then checked off the chores he had just finished. Listening carefully, he determined that Duo was upstairs, then set off in search of his lover.

He found the braided man in the guestroom with the blinds open to let the sunlight filter in as he sat atop a ladder cleaning the light fixture. Duo looked down with a smile, then gave the fixture one last wipe before hopping off the ladder.

"Need something Heero?" He asked, walking over to the bedside table to wipe it down with another cloth. He nodded lightly to the beat of the music he heard in one ear.

"Hn." Heero was glad he was holding a cloth, and he set to work wiping down the dresser. A thought crossed his mind as he glanced at the closet right next to the dresser, and he headed downstairs, grabbed the window cleaner, and returned to the room. The closet doors of the guestroom doubled as mirrors, and he set to work wiping it down.

"Did you finish with the dresser?" Duo asked, seeing the cloth sitting at the top of the dresser. Heero shook his head, and Duo picked up the cloth to finish the job. Satisfied with the job, Duo watched his lover finish cleaning the closet doors efficiently.

"Close the blinds will you?" Heero nodded to the window. Duo nodded and did as he was told. When he turned, Heero's arms wrapped around him, melding their lips together.

Duo smiled inwardly; he had felt the movements of Heero even though the man had been relatively quiet. Feeling Heero's tongue lick his lower lip asking for access, he opened his mouth to his lover, enjoying the kiss thoroughly. He pulled back for a moment.

"Knew you'd catch on." He mumbled, although Heero was already planting a mark on his neck and didn't seem to have heard him.

Heero smirked triumphantly as he managed to manoeuvre his braided lover the few steps back to the bed. He feel onto it, pulling Duo down with him, then rolled them over quickly, straddling his lover as he worshiped whatever skin he could find. Duo's hands worked to pull Heero's shirt off, and Heero returned the favour. They pressed their lips together, hips grinding to show each other the evidence of their need.

A while later, the two lay on the guestroom bed cuddled together.

"You know, now we have to wash these bed linens too." Duo pointed out, kissing Heero's hand.

"Hn." Heero nuzzled the nape of Duo's neck.

"Mm, do some more of that and we'll never get the chores done."

Heero reached down to touch his lover, grinning as he licked Duo's ear.

"Baka," he whispered, "that's why today's the *unofficial* Cleaning Day."

Duo's answer was a chuckle before he pulled the blanket over their bodies once more.

OWARI

Hope that was enjoyable, and I'm sure Heero and Duo definitely don't mind chores with this type of pattern. ^_^
