Runaway Part 7

Heero and Wufei took turns in watching over Duo for the next day. They knew that Duo would wake up when he was ready, and not before.

Wufei fully expected the youth to sleep longer considering what he'd been through, but he was ready when Duo groaned and blinked his eyes open. "You're awake. Good! You have a strong spirit."

Duo looked around and felt a surge of panic. "Wha? Where am I? Where's Cathy? What happened?"

Wufei gently placed his fingers on Duo's lips to still the words flooding out. "Your sister is with the troupe, you are in a wagon. We are taking you to our home fortress to protect you from Treize. As for what happened... your friend assaulted you." He pulled out a dagger. "Heero has already made this oath. I make it to you." He made a quick slice, repeating what Heero had done. "I vow that neither Heero nor myself will harm you or allow harm to befall you."

Duo watched the drop of blood collect and fall to the floor of the wagon... flashing briefly. Then he sat up and blinked as he sensed something out of place. He looked down at himself. "Um... WHY am I wearing a dress?" He looked up as the wagon lurched to a halt.

Heero entered. "Treize will have a lookout for three young men. He won't think to look for a youth and two young women."

That's when Duo noticed Wufei was getting changed into a woman's travelling outfit.

Heero placed his hand on Duo's shoulder and smiled apologetically. "We will have to set a harsh pace to get to the safehouse as soon as possible. Treize will soon know we have you alive and we're taking you someplace he can't touch you. He's going to expect us to go straight there. He doesn't know about the safehouses hidden everywhere."

Wufei pulled his hair free. "We should warn you that you will not be able to leave the fortress until Treize can no longer hunt you. That does not mean that there will be nothing to occupy your time. We have gardens and libraries as well as sports. We have no intention of locking you in a little room."

Heero nodded and started unloading their gear. "How are those scratches?"

Duo blinked stupidly. "Uhhhh... scratches?"

Wufei shook his head with a smile. "From the wolves that attacked you. How are they doing?"

"Oh!" Duo stretched experimentally. "They ache, but they aren't too bad."

Heero nodded and handed Duo a relatively light pack. "Good. The ointment is working, then. No offense to your healer, but I don't think she really knew what she was doing."

Duo laughed. "Hilde means well... she just never really paid attention to Vivienne." He shouldered the pack and frowned at its slight weight.

Wufei shouldered his own pack. "Don't look like that. You aren't used to the pace we'll be setting and I don't want the straps to hurt your shoulders where they were bruised."

Duo blinked as he noticed there was padding against his shoulders so the weight of the pack wasn't directly on them. "Um... thanks."

Heero smirked as he helped arrange Duo's hair into a more... feminine style. "Do you know how to put make up on?"

Duo blinked. "Wha?" He noticed Wufei applying cosmetics to his face. The various powders softened it... making Wufei appear more feminine. "Ummm... I've watched Cathy a bit. And she taught Hilde... I happened to listen in." He blushed a little. The only reason he had not yet bolted was the blood oath. He was safe with two people he had, for all intents, only just met when he opened his eyes.

Heero nodded and handed a few bottles and jars to Duo. "You should not need too much of the crushed berry essence. Your lips only need a little to accent them. Unlike Wufei."

Wufei snorted. "Keep it up and you can sleep alone!" He started closing the jars and gave Duo an encouraging smile.

Duo swallowed and started putting on the rest of his disguise. He jumped when he felt a pinch on his ear. "WHA?"

Heero smirked. "Calm down. They're only clamps. It's not like I just pierced your ear." He put the other earring on Duo and helped him get a few other pieces of simple bead jewelry on.

Duo whimpered and applied a powder made from ground forget-me-nots to his eyelids. "Jewelry, too? Where does it end?" He sighed and finished by dusting his face with a lightly scented powder.

Heero nodded in satisfaction. "Perfect. Let's move." With that, he exited the wagon with Wufei and Duo behind him. "Duo... you walk between Wufei and myself. We do not wish to lose sight of you."

Duo nodded numbly. "Uhhh... what about the horse?" He turned and noticed that the horse had already been set free. "Oh. Never mind." He followed Heero as the young man started walking.

"So the two of you met when you were on the same assignment?" Duo had fallen back a little to talk to Wufei.

Wufei had been concerned when the youth had slowed his pace until he saw curiosity and not fatigue in the boy's face. To the question, Wufei nodded. "Yes. We did not get along too well at first, but we soon learned to deal with our differences and became very good friends." He found himself liking Duo. The boy was honest, talkative, sweet-natured... not to mention very beautiful. He held up a finger. "A moment, please." When Duo nodded, Wufei cleared his throat. "Koi?"

Heero paused at the question and fell back to walk beside Wufei. He nodded when Duo smiled at him. ~What is it?~

~Do you feel it?~ Wufei glanced at Duo and then back at Heero. ~Do you feel the pull like you did with me?~

Heero bit his lip. ~I didn't want to mention it. It's why I suggested taking him to the fortress rather than guarding him at the camp. I don't want him hurt. I started feeling it when we rescued him from the wolves. He felt... RIGHT... in my arms. It's not like we can do anything about it, though. We've promised not to harm him in any way.~

Wufei smiled. ~Maybe we won't have to make the first move. Duo speaks his mind. Maybe he feels it.~

Meanwhile, Duo watched the two talk with curiosity. He hadn't heard them speak in that melodic language before. He didn't know why he felt so comfortable around the two of them. They were much stronger than he was. After pondering it for a moment, he shrugged. 'Must be the blood oath they made.' He blushed a little. 'No one's EVER made a blood oath not to harm me or let harm befall me before. Besides... if they WANTED to hurt me, they would have done it by now.'

Heero saw the blush and nudged Wufei. "Kawaii!"

Wufei nodded. "Hai." He was silent when Heero paused and looked around.

"We'll stop here for a while for a meal. How are you doing, Duo?"

Duo wanted to let Heero know that his feet were starting to hurt, but he smiled a little. "I'm okay. Thanks for asking."

Heero returned the smile and nodded. "Here." He handed Duo a jar.

"What's this?" Duo found himself being guided into a sitting position and frowned in bewilderment when Wufei removed his shoes.

"Your feet must be starting to ache a little." He smiled when Duo blushed. "This salve will help." He took the jar from Duo and started massaging his feet. "If you have no objections, I will also massage your legs to loosen the muscles. It will take all of ten minutes."

Duo swallowed and nodded. He felt all his muscles go limp as the pain in his feet disappeared under Wufei's fingers. By the time Wufei was done, Duo was half-asleep. He whimpered in disappointment when his boots were replaced.

Wufei swallowed a laugh and gently shook Duo's shoulder. "Don't fall asleep. Our meal is ready."

Duo took the plate Heero offered and started to eat the simple fare. "How long will it take us to get to your fortress."

Wufei accepted his own meal. "Six days if we don't stop for more than a night. We plan to take a few days at the safehouse, which is midway. This is for your benefit. You'll be a little stiff by tonight, sore by tomorrow night, and on the verge of collapse by the time we reach the safe house." He motioned to Duo's legs. "Your muscles are already stiff. I'd rather save you the embarrassment of carrying you on a litter."

Heero nodded in agreement. "We might have to take the underground route into the fortress." He turned to Duo with a worried frown. "Are you claustrophobic? If we take the entrance in the forest, it will take two days... shaving a day off our travelling time."

"I'm a little claustrophobic... but nothing I can't deal with."

Wufei frowned and shook his head. "Then we don't take the underground route." He then smiled at Duo. "An extra day isn't too long. Besides... it would be unjust to keep you out of the sunlight. The days are going to be darker soon enough."

Duo paused in his eating to stare at Wufei. If he didn't know any better, he'd think Wufei was... flirting... with him. Had it been anyone else, Duo would have immediately felt uncomfortable. However, Wufei had made a blood oath not to harm him. That, in and of itself, was enough to make him feel secure. Actually... he felt flattered. Solo had never flirted with him or made him feel special. They had been friends. Solo had never given him the hint that he had wanted something more until...

Wufei reached over and placed a hand on Duo's shoulder. "Come back, young one. Do not dwell in the past right now. You don't have the luxury to wallow." He smiled gently when Duo met his eyes. "Be calm, Duo. We will not allow anyone to harm you." Not even ourselves, he added to himself.

The security Duo felt made him bold. "So... you and Heero are together?"

Heero did himself justice by not choking on his water or spitting it up with the shock he received.

Wufei gave Duo a wide-eyed look. "Uhhh... well... yes. We are... together."

Duo tilted his head in confusion and curiosity? "So who...? Ummm..." He found himself unable to put the right words into his question.

Heero smirked and finished his water. "We take turns. It all depends on what mood we're in. If we have time to enjoy it, Wufei is on top. If we want it to be fast and frantic, I'm the one on top."

Duo frowned. They took turns? "Doesn't it... hurt?"

Wufei smiled and patted Duo's hand. "When someone cares... they make sure it won't hurt to the best of their abilities."

Duo was silent a moment as Heero started packing up the few items that needed to be packed. "How? How does one make sure it doesn't hurt?"

Heero shared a look with Wufei before answering. "Lubrication and stretching."

Wufei spoke up before Duo could. "Why are you asking these questions?"

Duo bit his lip and blushed. "I'm curious... I can ask you because you've vowed not to hurt me... I gather that includes..." He didn't know the word to describe what had almost happened to him twice. "I couldn't ask anyone at camp because they might have taken it as a come-on, and Cathy... well she never got around to talking about it."

Wufei smiled in understanding. "Ahh... well. Basically when it's between two men, one must stretch the other while using something to make the anus slippery so that there will be no tearing of the skin. The first time usually does hurt because it's new, but when there is caring there, the pain is usually JUST a tiny sting due to the adjustments."

Duo nodded. "The lubrication isn't needed in women because women produce their own, right?"

Heero shook his head and walked in front. He couldn't believe that Wufei was giving Duo education on sex between men.

*****

Wufei patiently answered the questions Duo posed as they walked. Mostly because he knew the chatter took Duo's mind off his feet and legs. He thought Duo was finished when the youth was silent for about ten minutes. He was wrong... Duo asked the one question he could never have prepared himself for.

"Ummm... can we...?" Duo bit his lip and looked to the ground as he blushed furiously. "I mean... I know you're with Heero. I just... I wanna know what it feels like when someone doesn't mean to hurt me."

Wufei gaped at the youth as Heero stopped. "Duo... Heero and I... we don't just roll around with anyone." He reached forward and made Duo meet his eyes. "If we do this... you become ours and we become yours. There is no going back from this. You deserve better and so do we."

Heero started setting up camp as Duo pondered what Wufei had said.

Duo gazed at Wufei... and found himself unable to tear his eyes away from Wufei's dark orbs. He would be in a permanent relationship with these two if he did what he had asked. Oddly enough... that thought gave him an odd sense of contentment. "So... can we?"

Wufei sighed and pulled Duo into his arms. "Not tonight... not until you've really thought about it. This is not something you should just jump into. You have known us for a day... and not really talked. You cannot make a decision like this so quickly."

Duo smiled and rested his head against Wufei's shoulder. Whether the golden-skinned man knew it or not... he had passed the first and most vital test. He had not taken what was offered on a silver platter.
