Hogwarts Part 17
The Game is the Thing

Life, Duo decided, was good. Although he and Heero hadn't gotten further than giving one another blow jobs - he decided that 69 was now his favorite number - there was a promise that it would go further in time. Heero didn't want to rush into anything. To make matters better, Duo hadn't had a single nightmare since Heero started sleeping with him. There was just something about the security Duo felt when he was in Heero's arms.

He blinked at a light tug on his braid and turned to smile at Angel. She and Christy had taken it upon themselves to coach him through the finer points of Quidditch. "What's up?"

Angel smiled. "Are you nervous? It's your first real game today... and we ARE playing against Slytherin. How are you going to cope having to be on the opposite side of Heero?"

Duo laughed. "We talked about it last night. Heero said that we couldn't allow our feelings for one another to get in the way of playing a fair game. We agreed whoever gets the snitch first... ummm..."

Angel's eyes widened as Duo blushed. "What? What have you agreed?"

"Whoever gets the snitch... gets to be on bottom when we..." His blush deepened. "We have been talking about that, and it is the next step in our relationship."

Angel laughed softly. "You really love him, don't you?"

Duo nodded. "God! I can't describe the feeling! He's so... so PATIENT now. Of course... I don't feel the need to cling to him now. It's like... we both know that we're meant for each other. I feel more at ease than I did before. We've also talked a great deal" He shook his head in amazement. "We actually TALKED, Angel! There was a time when he didn't say anything he felt was unnecessary and now... we're having meaningful conversations."

"Get out of dreamland, Newbie! You need your concentration for the game!"

Duo rolled his eyes at Christy's tone. "YES, mama!"

"Smart ass!"

*****

Duo felt oddly calm as he ate breakfast. He smiled as he felt Heero embrace him from behind and kiss his cheek. The PDAs were becoming more frequent, and Duo loved them. "Morning, Hee-chan." He grabbed Heero's hand and kissed the palm as Heero sat down next to him. "What happened to you this morning?"

Heero started taking some breakfast. "Gomen ne, koi. Sorry... I had to go to the Slytherin house so they could discuss strategy." He'd also had a discussion with the headmaster, but chose not to mention that to Duo.

Duo nodded. "Ah! makes sense since the Gryffindor team was doing much the same. So... how's the weather?" It was a genuine switch of topic. Each knew that it would be bad form to discuss strategy with each other.

"It looks like it might rain later. Will you be okay? I know you like the rain, but you hate the cold. And your hair will add extra weight to you and slow you down when it's wet. " Heero smiled as he regarded Duo. "You could leave it loose or see about a hood."

-A hood would be better. And keep your hair braided! It'll take longer for the rain to soak through!- Shi-chan hopped onto the table, as was her usual action in the morning.

Duo answered both of them. "Caitlin has already sewn a hood for me in case of foul weather. As for the cold..." He leered at Heero. "You can warm me up later, hmmmm?"

"Hai." He also had plans of hot cider, soup, warm meat pies and fresh pastries as a sort of picnic meal after the game to warm them inside as well as a fire to warm them on the outside. He'd already stopped off at their room and set everything up for them the food was going to be kept warm and fresh thanks to a spell Professor Copperbottom had taught him. He was going to make that night a night to remember for both of them. "After breakfast, I won't see you until after the game."

Duo nodded. "I know. Don't go easy on me just because you love me."

Heero leaned over and hugged Duo. "As hard as it will be, I won't. I ask the same of you."

"You got it, Hee-chan!" He kissed Heero quickly then straightened and continued eating his breakfast.

"Greetings students and teachers! Welcome to Hogwarts first Quidditch game of the semester! Today's match is between Slytherin and Gryffindor! It's a rather chilly day and it looks as if we might get rain! Let's hope the match is over before the main storm hits, eh?"

===

~Relax!~ Christy nodded to Duo. ~You'll be fine!~

Duo rolled his eyes. They had never seen Heero in soldier mode. Though Duo hadn't said anything earlier, he prayed he wouldn't see the soldier out there today. He hoped that he would only see the determination of someone who wants to win, but will stop before becoming a fanatic about it.

He mounted his broomstick as the door opened and flew out.

---

"The players are taking position! I think it will be an interesting game what with the relationship between the opposing Seekers. There is only one Snitch! Madame Creeper is on the field..."

===

Duo didn't pay attention to the announcer. He was too busy studying Heero. There was a small pit of worry in his stomach that dissolved when Heero winked at him and smiled briefly. Duo returned the smile, unaware of the looks he was getting from the other Slytherin team members. His view was briefly obstructed when a tiny golden ball shot into his line of sight.

Heero was a little worried about Duo, but didn't say anything. He had heard his team-mates complaining about Duo and his 'Bad Influence'. They said the Houses should be separate. The idiots thought that Duo had corrupted Heero's mind. With the hard objects that would be flying around, it would be so easy for them to cause great harm to the boy he loved.

Duo blinked as Heero pinched the bridge of his nose then scratched his shoulder before flying off. 'Watch your back' was the old sign. Duo shrugged and started flying around, falling back on old habits to find a small, shiny object.

---

"Slytherin has the Quaffle! They're in rare form today, folks! It's as if they're determined not to lose. OH! What a fabulous block by the Gryffindor Keeper! Keara may be shy, but she is aggressive on the field! Gryffindor now has the Quaffle. Chritiana and Angel are working together as fluidly on the field as they do in everything else."

In the stands, Quatre had his eyes on only two players. "Hey, Trowa?"

Trowa, as well as Wufei and Meiling, turned to look at him.

Quatre frowned. "Is it my imagination, or are the Slytherin beaters aiming the Bludgers solely at Duo?"

Trowa watched a moment as Duo dodged another Bludger. "Mostly... but they also aim at other players every once in a while. I'd LIKE to say it was a good strategy. If they knock Duo out of the game, they'll win since Heero is the only one left who can get the Snitch."

Quatre's frown deepened. "But... they seem to just want him hurt."

Wufei sighed and placed a hand on Quatre's arm. "They probably do. It IS the first year that students from all four houses have been interacting outside the classroom. I'm not saying that's a bad thing."

Quatre nodded. "I know. I'm just worried about Duo, that's all."

---

"ANOTHER ten points for Gryffindor! That makes the score Gryffindor 30 and Slytherin 10! The rain has started now. It looks like there's going to be a major storm! Visibility will be almost nil in a while!"

===

Duo took a split second to pull his hood up as the first drops hit his head. He thought he'd seen the Snitch a moment ago, but he'd had to dodge yet another Bludger so he had lost sight of it. Good thing was... Tommy and Nicole finally realized what the Slytherin beaters were up to, so they were guarding him. He grinned as his old habits made his eyes latch onto a tiny moving object. No WAY was he going to lose the Snitch now!

Heero's attention was divided. True he was keeping an eye out for the Snitch, but he was mostly making sure that Duo was all right. He was more than relieved that the two Gryffindor beaters were now guarding Duo. He smiled as Duo shot forward... and spotted the glint of gold. 'Good, koi. But can you beat me?' He took off after Duo.

---

"It looks like both Seekers have seen the Snitch! I don't know if they will be able to get it in this rain, though. The storm is picking up, and that Snitch is VERY slippery when wet. I hope one of those Seekers has a good grip!"

===

Heero sped up until he was even with Duo. "You'll never get it!"

Duo grinned over at Heero. "Wanna bet? I was ALWAYS faster, Hee-chan! You KNOW that!"

Heero grinned back. "What makes you think I didn't LET you win?"

They were both so focused on the Snitch that neither saw the Bludger coming.

---

"OH NO! The Gryffindor Seeker has been hit! He's teetering on his broom! Will he be able to get the Snitch? Or will the Slytherin Seeker take this chance?"

===

Heero had no time to think. He shot forward with his hand outstretched...

+++

There was a brief silence in the stands. Quatre, Trowa, Wufei and Meiling stared in shock.

---

"I DON'T BELIEVE IT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! THE SLYTHERIN SEEKER HAS SAVED THE GRYFFINDOR SEEKER, GIVING DUO MAXWELL THE ADDED NUDGE NEEDED TO CATCH THE SNITCH!!! GRYFFINDOR WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

===

Heero slowly let a smile blossom on his face as the last barrier caused by his training crumbled. He didn't care that he'd lost the game... failed his mission. All he cared about was that Duo was safe in his arms. Tears came unbidden to his eyes as he held Duo close.

"Hmmmmm? Hee-chan? Wha happened?" Duo's voice was soft and a little slurred.

"You were hit by a Bludger. Are you okay?" Heero pulled back to look into Duo's eyes. He suddenly saw just how lovely they were and didn't feel bad about admiring them.

"I will be. Who won?"

Heero smiled brightly and almost laughed at the awe-struck look on Duo's face. "We both did, koi. We both won. Gryffindor won the game, but we... we won something much more important."
