The Hunt

She shifted over toward the players guide rack, carefully maintaining the look of bored disdain. With a theatric yawn, she lifted down a copy of Zelda the Four Swords and used it to mask a scan of the store. Ah... there he was. Damn it; he'd gotten closer to the counter when she'd lost sight of him near the Resident Evil display. A slight turn to the left brought Duo into sight and she put the book back on the rack, giving the man one of those looks that meant 'come here'. He had to be gotten out of the way... he was too astute. And willing to see things that Heero never could.

'If I have to stay in this silly store,' she muttered to him when he came to her side. 'I simply must have something to drink.'

'Princess...' Duo warned, not looking happy. 'It's really not a good idea for any of your guards to leave.'

'Please, Duo?' she wheedled. 'I'm so thirsty and we only stopped because you said Heero wanted to.'

He sighed, rubbing a hand over his face and casting a glance first toward Heero, who was getting dangerously out of range, and then agent Nicholson, at the front of the store. 'All right. But you stay right here with Heero.'

'Of course,' she smiled sweetly, wanting nothing more than to shove his butt out of the damn store. Nicholson was a piece of cake; the man wouldn't notice a pass from an elephant, but Duo she wanted out of the way.

She made a casual turn around the rack as soon as Duo checked in with Nicholson and walked out. Damn it! Heero was almost close enough to start talking to the clerk. This was going to call for desperate measures. Taking a breath, she... yelped.

Heero, predictably, was at her side in a moment.

'What's wrong?' he wanted to know, his hand inside his coat, and she made her eyes focus on the lurid poster just over his right shoulder, until the suitable blush came to her cheeks.

'That... that man pinched me!' she whispered, gesturing wildly toward the front of the store and about five different people. His hand came off his gun, but he whirled away with a look of righteous anger on his face.

With a feral grin, she moved quickly toward the counter. 'I'd like that copy of FFXII, please.'

'You got the last copy!' the clerk smiled as she rang it up, and Relena's grin only grew.

'I know.'

The game would be a blast when she got it home to the privacy of her own room, but the best part really was the thrill of the hunt. Transaction finished, she slipped the game safely out of sight in her Godiva's bag, and was well away from the counter before Heero came back.

'Oh darn,' she pouted. 'He seems to have gotten away. Well, never mind.'

Heero, looking irritated at having been thwarted in dispensing justice, sighed heavily. 'Let me take care of one thing, and then we'll get out of here.'

Thankfully, Duo came back with her drink then, and she was able to use it to hide the wide smile as the clerk told her body guard, 'I'm sorry sir, but we just sold the last copy.'

Yes; the joy was all in a successful capture.
