Woke Up One Morning... Part 8
A few beams of light peek through the closed shades of the bedroom, enough to wake me from my sound sleep. Blinking my eyes open, I squint them a bit to regain focus and take in the warm feeling of the strong arms around me.
No surprise, Heero's awake and watching me with a content smile. "Good morning," he mutters before claiming my lips for a quick kiss that I give back happily.
Grinning back from ear-to-ear, I nuzzle closer against him with a squeeze from my arm around his waist. "'Morning," I sigh as my cheek rubs against his shoulder.
We stay entangled and in a relaxing silence for a while.
To hell with the rest of the world. I could stay like this right here for the rest of my life if I was allowed to. My thoughts replay last nights conversation and I'm suddenly struck with the realization that we could have this for the rest of our days very soon.
Retirement from the Preventers is just around the corner.
Just few more days of vacationing with out friends, a couple of typed letters away and we'll be free of our obligations to the agency. We'll be able to do as we please, whatever and whenever we want for the first time in our lives.
It all just seems too good to be true.
My key interest is, and always will be, L2... but I think I can afford to be a little greedy with our soon-to-be found freedom.
Chuckling deeply, I sit up to meet the blue eyes that are following me. Lightly trailing circles on my husband's bare chest, I smirk, "You know, I have a few ideas that you may be up for when we retire."
An eyebrow raising a bit, Heero matches my smirk and responds, "I'm open to suggestions for that. What do you have in mind?"
I become a bit more daring and bend down to nibble on his neck a little, savoring the taste a bit as well as the gasps coming from my partner.
Leaning back up, I suggest in a thicker voice, "Well, we both have more than enough funds in our accounts from funds hacked out of OZ's accounts to last us a couple of lifetimes. We could travel for a while; see the world and the Colonies before we settle down."
'Ro swallows roughly before he can manage, "T-that sounds like a pretty good plan to me." I mentally pat myself on the back for affecting him so much with my teasing. So, my fingers run over his chest again lightly to make things a little more... hard on him.
An animalistic growl rumbles from him as he moves swiftly to spin and pin me beneath him. When my mouth opens to gasp, his tongue fills it and laps around its walls. Pulling him down on top of me, my fingernails rake down his back as I moan and whimper while returning his kiss as best I can in my surprise.
Goddamn, I feel like I'm on fire right now and I can feel myself hardening down below. Then, his equally stiff erection grinds against mine and I feel like I'm drowning.
"I've been thinking about our talk last night, too," Heero pants when he finally pulls away. His hands reaching for my boxers, he begins to tug them away and I almost cry out in the sheer anticipation of whatever he has planned.
That wicked smirk returns and he tells me in a throaty whisper, "We could always have some fun before we really consummate our marriage."
He doesn't give me a second to react as he carefully, but quickly removes our boxers completely. All rhyme and reason in my brain instantly shut down when he just as swiftly shifts himself downward to take the whole of my length into his mouth.
Screaming from the heat of him wrapped around me, I muffle it as best I can by turning to bite into the pillow beside my head. At the same time, my right hand reaches down to bury itself in his hair.
My God... I've never felt anything like this! My back arches as I lose all control of my body in this moment. I don't even recognize my own voice as I mutter and whisper things that I'm not even sure are coherent.
I am completely and without question, his.
And that is the last really coherent thought that I have as that tongue reminds me just how talented it is.

Sitting with the others at breakfast, it's taking every ounce of strength in me to keep from smiling like an idiot. The after effects from this morning are still lingering quite a bit for me and I just hope I'm not tipping anyone off to something being up.
Even now, an hour after our romp in bed, I can still taste 'Ro on my tongue from my fair turn to return the favor he offered me. I can still hear his whimpers and how he cried my name when he came in my mouth. I can still feel his mouth around my cock and it's real work to keep myself from hardening again.
It won't be long before I have to worry about being so secretive. Once Heero and I are officially retired, we'll be able to announce our marriage officially. As fun as it's been to have this little secret, it's also a lot of mental labor and stress to keep up with it. Besides, I want the others to know just how happy we are.
Filling his plate with food from the buffet, my husband takes the seat next to me. While no one else is looking, he gives me a knowing smile that just warms every damn fiber of me. I return the grin and lightly nudge his side with mine when he sits.
Relena appears a few minutes into our meal. As she approaches the table to the only open seat between Wufei and Trowa, I pause when I take in her pale skin and dark-circled eyes. As well put together as her clothes and hair air, she's clearly still having a time dealing with yesterday's attack.
The others freeze along with me as all eyes fall on our Vice-Foreign Minister. Clearing my throat, I decide to be the first to address her with a polite, "Hey, Lena. You all right there, doll?"
Her smile in response is forced, but she still keeps her voice light with a kind, "A bit tired and still getting over what happened, but I'll be alright. Thank you, Duo." Lowering her head a bit, she frowns, "We lost a good few yesterday." Quatre bites his lip and nods solemnly in agreement.
Of course, out of all of us, those two would have been a lot closer to those members of the Assembly that had died. No loss of life when we're on duty is ever easy on any of us, but especially when one works closely with the victims.
Gently resting a hand on her shoulder, Trowa reassures quietly, "Whoever is responsible for this is going to be found. You know the Preventers will not let anyone involved get away with this."
Relena raises her eyes hopefully at my partner and instantly, my eyes widen in realizing that what she is no doubt about to ask is going to put his intent to resign on the backburner.
It's a train that I can't stop as she asks, "Will you be working on the case, Heero? I would feel a lot safer if there was still a threat out there knowing that you would be involved with the investigation."
My jaw clenched, I peer over at Heero, who looks like a deer caught in headlights as he glances quickly from the former Queen of the World to me and back to her. While lost to the others, I can see how torn he is in this.
Fuck!
Before he has to say anything, I speak up for him, "You know we'll be working on this one, Lena. We're all involved from having been at the attack." Shrugging, I add, "Besides, we all want to make sure that you and all of the Assembly are safe from any other terrorists that may be connected to this."
And I'm rewarded with the most brilliant smile she's ever given me.
Son of a bitch!
Even when I want to be upset, I can't be after seeing that relief on her face. So much for that upcoming retirement plan.
I peer out of the corner of my eye to see Heero staring openly at me with wide, disbelieving eyes. Shaking off his initial reaction before anyone else could really notice, he focuses back on Relena and gives her a small grin. He doesn't seem to have anything to actually say and he nods his head shallowly.
"We're going to be on the case as soon as we return to headquarters after this week," Wufei states and all eyes turn on him. "That will give time for the interrogators to get whatever they can out of our prisoner."
Now that I can breathe without everyone watching me, I can fall back into a normal conversation for the rest of the meal. When the table is cleared, a visit to the Olympic-sized pool in the back yard is suggested and our paths split so we can take to our respective rooms.
Heero and I never utter a word to each other on the way down the long hall. As soon as we close the bedroom door behind us, however, that changes when he grips my shoulders to make me face him. His eyes sad, he frowns, "Why? Why did you give up what we were talking about doing like that?"
I keep our eyes locked and force a smile. Shrugging, I answer simply, "You would have had a hard time saying 'no' to Lena. Especially because it's come down to her protection."
Frustration creeps on his face as he insists, "I would have, though. I would have told her 'no' for you. I know how much you have been looking forward to leaving the Preventers behind. Hell, we're both looking forward to that now."
"You would have said 'no' to her, but I know how difficult it would have been on you to do that," I tell him, shaking my head. Just as his frustration becomes more evident and the hands on my shoulders squeeze tighter, I reassure him quietly, "And I know that it's not because you harbor feelings I should be jealous over."
Hesitantly, I take a deep breath and share the realization that I had back at the breakfast table earlier. "You see that little girl and her dog in her."
Gasping sharply, 'Ro's eyes widen as far as they can and his hands fall from my shoulders to his sides. I bite my lip, frowning in worry over the pain and surprise that's going through him. God, I would never intentionally hurt him... but he needed to hear that from me.
His head lowering a bit, my partner moves over to our shared bed and sits on the edge of it facing the window. Looking out to the ocean with his back to me, his shoulders are actually slumped forward a bit like the weight of the would finally caught up to him. It's such a... heartbreaking sight and I actually feel an early sting from tears that want to appear.
Tears for Heero. Tears for my own past that won't always let me go. Tears for what we've been denying ourselves because of it all. But like so many other times, I fight them all back.
After allowing a moment to let him deal with what I had dealt him, I slowly move round the bed to sit at my husband's right. He continues to stare out the window with such a lost look on his face and in his eyes. Once again, my heart's crumbling seeing him like this.
Gently wrapping an arm around his slack shoulders, I call through his thoughts with a whispered, "Hey. It's all right, "Ro. If anyone understands guilt from things that happened in the past, I do." I reach with my free hand to pull the cross pendant from inside my shirt and grasp it. "remember?" I ask, holding it out for him to see.
His head lowering even more, his blue eyes close as he says softly, "I... forgot that I had told you about what happened that night."
'That' night being the night we got married.
Smirking, I release my pendant and shrug, "There are, obviously, a lot of things I don't remember from that night. But I do remember you telling me about that incident." I try to throw in a bit of humor to lighten the air as I snicker, "I should have warned you that Tequila can have a lot of interesting effects on a person. Apparently, spilling your heart out would be one of those things for you."
'Ro's shoulders ease and shake a bit as I'm rewarded a chuckle from him.
Now that the tension's backed off a little, I reach over to grasp his chin to turn his head back towards me. When he finally opens his shimmering eyes, I breathe, "It was an accident. Of course it hurts you that it happened, but you had no intentions of anyone getting hurt. And I know those bastards tried to make you block those feelings around it, made you feel even more guilty for letting your emotions get in the way, but you're human. We all make mistakes as humans and we all feel things as humans."
Tilting my head, I sigh, "I know that I shouldn't be the one preaching this since I'm not exactly an expert at it; but you have to let yourself off the hook to some degree over what happened. Granted, I'm working on that with my own past, but I'm working on it." I rest our foreheads together and suggest, "Maybe we can both help each other with that."
Ever so slightly, a small smile curls the sides of Heero's lips as he nods and says in a choked voice, "I'd like that." And just like that, all seems right in the world again. This has been a huge step for him, trusting me with much more than his life out on the battlefield.
It's taken a lot to earn it that kind of conviction from him, but as good as it feels now to have that it's been worth all of the time and effort.
Taking my left hand from his chin, he closes his eyes and brings it to his mouth to carefully place a kiss each finger. The whole gesture takes my breath away and I can feel those damn tears prickling at the rims of my eyes. Gazing at me once again, my husband smiles and breaths, "Thank you, Duo."
He leans back a bit and raises a finger before my nose, "One last case. As soon as we get to the bottom of yesterday's attack, I promise to not let my guilt get in the way of our moving on with our lives."
God, I love it when he gets so bad-ass and in control. Especially when it involves us.
Closing the distance between us, I kiss him fully to show my appreciation. As he returns it, I know that this is in some way another vow between us.
...One that's a hell of a lot more important than any vow we could have given each other during that wedding we can't remember.
When I pull back, I wink and order, "All right. Let's get changed and to the pool before the others start wondering what's taking us." Heero rises without protect, but not before playfully slapping my ass in the process to get a surprised squeak out of me that makes the two of us laugh.
You know, somehow I think we're ahead of the game compared to a lot of couples. Or, at least out those couples that happen to wake up and find themselves married.
I'm certainly not complaining.

Rings removed and shortly later...
Out in the backyard, I'm laughing up a storm while splashing Wufei just as he surfaces from a failed attempt to dunk me under the water. Gulping a couple of waves, he sputters and coughs between his own laughter.
Heero, Quatre and Trowa snicker and shake their heads in amusement from where they watch at a safe distance in the pool. Dolled up in a lilac two-piece, sunhat and shades, Relena looks up from the book she's reading while lounging back in one of the poolside chairs. Giggling, she resumes her reading.
I cup my mouth and call over to her, "Come on in, Lena! The water's great! You can work on your tan another day!"
Lowering her book, she smirks, "Not on your life, Maxwell! I don't trust you for a second!" Narrowly avoiding the water I splash her way by jumping out of her seat just in time, she laughs loudly along with the rest of us.
She is a quick little thing as she manages to dodge my last couple of attempts to get her wet. "Oh, the force is strong with you, young padawan!" I chuckle, finally relenting and ending my assault. [1]
"You have trained me well in the ways, Yoda!" Relena quips back, earning yet another point of likeability with me in clearly knowing the Star Wars series.
The sound of her cell phone ringing on the table by where she had been lying ends our game as she sobers and runs to answer the call. A quick look at the small caller ID has her gasping sharply as she quickly opens the flip and presses it to her ear. "Senator Rowley. How are you?" she greets, removing her sunglasses as she walks back towards the back porch of the mansion for a little bit of privacy.
At their end of the pool, Quatre and Trowa's quiet conversation comes to a screeching halt when the Senator's name is mentioned. Glancing to his lover, my Arab friend politely excuses himself and pulls himself from the water. On his way to joining Relena on the porch, he grabs a towel from one of the chairs and wraps it around his waist.
Heero eyes me and I just shrug before making him my new assault target. Just as he starts to return fire, we all freeze when Relena's voice shrieks in the distance, "That is utterly ridiculous!" The four of us instantly stop what we're doing and turn to see her pacing back and forth, clearly enraged as Quatre's head follows her.
More heated words are exchanged over the phone, but Lena is keeping the volume down enough that I can't quite make out what she's saying. Slamming her cell phone closed, she runs a hand wearily through her bangs and starts whispering to Quatre. It's not long before his face begins to redden.
Shit. Whatever it is, it's not good if even Q-man is pissed.
Together, our friends walk back to the pool until they stand by the edge. I'm a little more than worried when their sad eyes are focused on me. Heero shifts the slightest bit closer to my side protectively, but keeps his attention on the pair.
"W-what's going on?" I ask with a nervous chuckle.
Biting her lip, Relena takes a deep breath and answers quietly, "There are some members of the Assembly who want you to be investigated for yesterday's assault."
TBC...
[1] Just an author's note that I can totally see Duo as the type to make Star Wars references.
