Woke Up One Morning... Part 10

Like all vacations, ours came to an end way too soon for my liking. Our duties called once again and before long, we were wishing each other well until we could meet up again.

Smiling, Relena gives me a tight hug and a peck on the cheek as we're gathered in Quatre's private hanger. "Take care, Duo," she says near my ear while I return the embrace. "We'll give you a call as soon as we've landed back on L4."

"You be sure to do that," I reply with a grin. Pulling back, I tell her quietly, "Take it easy out there. If you ever need anything until we get this mess straightened out, just give us a holler."

Her blue eyes warming, her smile grows as she all but whispers, "Thank you. I truly appreciate that." Briefly looking over to where Heero is shaking hands with Quat and Tro, she faces me again and requests softly, "Keep making him happy."

I almost flush at that. Almost.

Chuckling quietly, I nod firmly, "With everything in my power." Satisfied with that, 'Lena bows her head in response and heads over to give her farewells and hugs to Heero and Wufei.

Slowly inhaling a deep breath, I run a finger around the inside of my T-shirt collar. That comment was certainly not something I had expected from the same person who had wanted nothing more than to be the source of my partner's happiness.

Yet another clear example of how mature she is these days.

Quatre and Trowa move towards me for a one-armed embrace from me. "Not quite the business trip you had been expecting," I quip with a small smirk that quickly fades into a serious frown. "So what are the plans for the Assembly now?"

Sighing, my blond friend answers, "Of course, first and foremost, we will be assisting in the arrangements for the funerals of the members we have lost as well as actually attending those services. Then we'll have the long, difficult process of having to fill their seats before we can resume where this last meeting left off. It's a lot of red tape before there will be any motion made on the relief process."

Not that I'm looking forward to having to sit in on another one of those meetings... and I would never wish for a changing in seats to have happened this way... but I still can't help but hold out hope that there will be a chance something may be done about L2. New perspectives could always bring about new changes.

Again, not that I ever would have wanted something like that attack to be the cause of it all.

Really, I'm just looking forward to finding out what terrorist, or group of terrorists are responsible for the hit. Much as I would love to be finished with the Preventers, there are a lot of reasons for my wanting to dive into the case.

"Well, good luck with all of that. Better you than me to deal with those things," I snicker and he offers me a fake glare and a light punch in the arm while Trowa laughs. Pulling my taller friend into his one-armed hug, I smile, "See that Quat doesn't stress himself out too much. I'd hate to find you hanging from a tree, too."

He chuckles and pulls back to grin, "Oh, I have ways of helping his stress level. Not to worry." And he has the nerve to laugh outright at me when I feel my cheeks color a bit. Damn. I walked right into that one. Set the ball on the tee like that and even our subdued Trowa will knock it out of the park. Rolling my eyes, I 'punch' his arm in response.

Luggage in hand, our visiting friends climb the stairs into Quatre's private jet along with Rashid and his elite. Waving them off, I'm flanked by Heero and Wufei in the center of the hanger. Once the plane is off and out of the building, I turn to my fellow Preventers and announce, "So, back to the grind of things."

Nodding, Fei crosses his arms and states, "I've been anxious to find out what, if anything, Lady Une was able to get out of our captive. If he has been holding back for as long as he has, we're in for a long investigation."

The cell phone at his waist starts beeping all of a sudden and wide-eyed, he unhooks it to read a text message on the small screen. Shoulders relaxing, he grins warmly and replaces his cell phone. "That was an emergency page."

Before either Heero or myself have a chance to start panicking, Fei explains, "Sally is almost finished her shift for the day and she's out of cottage cheese," he informs when he looks back up to us. Cringing, he warns, "You do not want to know that lady when whatever she's craving at that moment runs out."

"You had better take care of that, then," I snigger. "And give Sal a hug for us when you're back home."

Lowering his head respectfully, Chang responds, "I will do that. Until tomorrow, then." That said, he turns on his heels with a wave and hurries off to reunite with his wife. Tease her as he will from time to time, there's no question of the man's devotion to her and their little one.

As soon as we're alone in the room, Heero moves to stand as close beside me as he can and smiles, "Shall we head back home then, husband?"

My hand moves to clasp his and I squeeze that while meeting his eyes. "That sound like a great idea, Mister Yuy-Maxwell," I nod with a grin on my own face. Our hands stay joined until we reach the doors and wave to the maintenance crew waiting to close shop outside.

Nice as it was to be with the others these last few days, I've been dying to have some real personal time with Heero again. More and more, my whole world is centering around him and just being as close to him as possible.

At long, long last, we step back into our house and lower my bag at the door with a deeply sighed, "Home sweet home." Entering behind me, Heero closes the door and sets his own bag down with a quiet hum in agreement.

Right away, I remove the band-aid covering my wedding band as my husband does the same. I can't help the smile on my face seeing how quickly he moved to have the ring in sight again. Makes me feel more and more like this marriage might actually be a proper marriage rather than one of convenience for him.

The bags are unpacked and the dirty clothes are sent to the washer. And while I would love nothing more than to crash on the couch for the remainder of the day, I have one last thing to accomplish first.

Stretching, I announce, "I better freshen up before we order in tonight. If I lay down now, I'm not going to move until we have to be at work tomorrow."

"Okay," Heero nods and slaps my ass on his way for the living room. Snickering to myself, I shake my head as I head for the master bathroom that is already fully stocked with my necessities the way I had left them.

I close the door behind me, make quick work of unraveling my hair and shed the articles on me. Heading to the glass-walled shower, I open the door to carefully step inside and turn on the water. It had been a long commute home and there are few luxuries better than a warm shower to relax me.

Stepping into the warm spray, I sigh as it's already working to loosen my tense muscles. It's nice enough that I just stand here for a while before reaching for the soap and washcloth.

The sound of the glass door opening makes me freeze in place, my hand just shy of the soap dish. Heart racing, I peer over my shoulder to find Heero in all his naked wonder walking towards me with a smirk that's making all kinds of sinful promises.

Fuck. Just the sight of him has my mouth dry, eyes wide and knees weak. It takes a couple of rough swallows before I can find my voice. "H-Heero?" I manage quietly... nervously. "What are you-"

He cuts me of with a shrugged, "I remember someone offering to share a shower with me." Very slowly, he stalks closer until his perfect body is shining from the water falling on the both of us. Raising an eyebrow, that smirk on his face only gets all the more wicked. "Does the offer still stand?"

Oh, coy choice of words to use since there are a couple of other things 'standing' right now. Jesus, I can't even think straight enough to talk and I must look like a complete idiot just gaping at him right now!

'Ro's smile spreads further before he closes the distance between our mouths for a hungry kiss. Holy shit! My knees are buckling as I try to return the favor his tongue is giving me. Fortunately, my back is pinned against the tiled wall behind me as those strong arms wrap around and support me.

Arms shaking, I hold him back and our hips start grinding together almost on their own. Those hands of his are just roaming up and down every inch of my wet body, sending bolts through my nerves.

Like the last time we were this close on the edge of intimacy a few mornings ago, I get that drowning feeling and just ride it out. If the excitement from this kills me, I'll leave this world a very happy man.

We continue our touching and exploring until Heero's right hand disappears briefly to return slick from something. Then, without warning, it wraps tightly around my hard cock and I cry out in surprise and sheer pleasure at the feeling. Quickly spotting the opened gel bottle behind me, I give myself a generous helping to return the favor.

The sound of my partner's sharp gasp in my ear when I take hold of him makes me shudder. It doesn't take long for us to figure out how tightly we both care to be gripped with minimal guidance.

Before long, in addition to our continued kissing and roaming with our free hands, we've found a rhythm to pump each other to. Each stroke, I can feel myself getting closer and closer to the edge of exploding.

I'm taking in air as much as I'm gulping down water with each pant. Pulling me close, 'Ro buries his head in my shoulder and bites down. Hard. It's enough to send me over that last barrier and into a blissful euphoria.

Whimpering his name, my back arches with a primal scream and his free arm is there to keep me on my feet while I cum all over his chest.

Right on my heels, my husband whispers, "Oh God," before a sharp cry escapes him. In my hand, his penis jerks a bit and I can feel his warm essence covering me. Lightheaded, I cling onto him when I feel his knees buckle a bit.

Then, we just rest our heads on each other's shoulder and hold on.

After a long, comfortable silence, my voice decides to work again and I breath, "How... how in the hell do you know what you're doing? You're as inexperienced as I am, and you're like a damned pro at this stuff."

Heero's chest rumbles with his chuckle. Lightly kissing my cheek, he answers quietly, "I've been researching." I smile against his shoulder. Of course. Research has always been his way of getting a handle on things out of his familiarity.

"Well, you're a damn good study," I grin before reluctantly pulling away with a peck to his mouth. And there is that brilliant smile that he gives only me.

I love him.

Gasping sharply, my husband's eyes suddenly widen. Oh God. Instantly, I stiffen realizing that I actually said those words out loud. Only instead of the word 'him,' I actually said 'you.' Shit! I'm panicking over being the first to use the 'L' word, not knowing how it's going to be taken.

Just as I'm about to find a way to crawl into my own skin, 'Ro's smile returns and he kisses me deeply. Blinking in surprise for only a second, they close as I sigh into his mouth and all but completely sag into his arms again.

Our kiss abruptly ends when the water falling on us loses some of its warmth. Chuckling, I hurry to shampoo and condition my hair with Heero's help. "Told you we're going to need a better water heater for this house," I smirk when we're finished cleaning up.

As he turns the shower head off, my partner snorts. "It might not be a bad idea to look into that," he replies. Grinning at me, he shrugs, "If we get to have the benefits of showers like that, it would be more than worth the investment."

Leading the way out of the shower, I laugh, "Fuck, yea!" Once I am out, I reach for a couple of fresh towels, only to be stopped when 'Ro rests a hand on my shoulder. Blinking in confusion at him, I watch as he grabs the towels himself with a smile.

To both my surprise and pleasure, he gently and methodically helps dry me from head-to-toe before ever worrying about himself.

Grinning like a love-sick fool, I just hold my arms up and turn around in place as needed. When I'm just about free of any droplets, he takes up a fresh towel to wrap my hair up the way I normally would.

I still don't have to budge an inch as Heero heads back to the wall rack to take my deep violet, cotton robe. Lightly kissing the darkening bruise left from his love bite in my right shoulder, he drapes my robe over me and ties it closed.

Shit, he's so damned gentle and attentive with me that I can't even catch my breath.

The side of my mouth curls up as I wonder if any of the others would ever believe that Heero is capable of being this way.

Heero makes quick work of drying himself off and pulling his own, cobalt robe on as I take up my brush. Before I can even reach up to remove the towel over my head, my free hand is clasped and I'm led from the bathroom.

Not putting up any kind of resistance, I just smile and follow 'Ro into the living room. Sitting me down on the floor, he sits behind me on the couch and takes the brush from my hand. He unwraps the towel and begins the arduous task of brushing out every knot from end to root.

Purring as he continues to brush, my eyes drift closed and my head falls back. Suddenly, it dawns on me what he's doing. All of this extra care is his own way of responding to my telling him that I love him.

Obviously, Heero's not exactly ready to say those words back or he would have by now. So, instead, he's making it known how he feels by showing me. Acting out on his emotions, as he had always been taught.

I would be lying if I said that I don't care if I never hear my husband tell me he loves me. But, I can definitely get used to attention like this if he's more comfortable expressing himself this way.

When I open my eyes, the tie is being wrapped around the end of the braid that was woven during my epiphany. Staring at 'Ro upside-down, I grin widely at him as he meets my gaze.

He has something in those eyes of his that borders on uncertainty and hope. And I know exactly what he's looking for.

Reaching up, I pull his head down to give him a slow, long kiss that has my toes rolling up. He sighs into my mouth that lets onto how relieved he is that I got his message.

Finally coming apart after a brief, wonderful eternity, I lock with his eyes again and smile. Panting quietly, I reassure him, "I understand. Thank you."

Then my partner smiles in unhidden relief and gently pulls me up onto the couch with him. Lying along the cushions, he stretches me out on top of him and kisses my head while wrapping me up in his strong arms again. I nuzzle the side of his neck and take a deep breath of shampoo and soap.

My stomach grumbles a little, but I ignore it. Hungry as I am, there is nothing that will make me move right now. Because right now, with 'Ro slowly running his fingers over my cheeks, nose, ears and neck I feel more revered than I ever have in my life.

And I don't have to hear a single word of it to know that.

*   *   *   *   *   *

Without needing a mirror, I adjust my tie from habit and brush it down. It is a little weird to know that this will be one of the last times I'll be putting my uniform on. I peer over my shoulder to see my husband pulling his dark blazer over his shirt.

This is going to be our last case for the Preventers. That realization comes with a whole wave of different feelings for me. Of course, there's excitement of putting this responsibility me, but there is also a little apprehension at leaving something so familiar behind.

It's pretty funny. Especially considering how I never even wanted to put this uniform on in the first place.

For someone like Heero, who's whole life centered around having the sense of duty that the wars and the Preventers offered, I can only imagine what could be going though his mind. Very far in the back of my mind, I can only hope that he will not regret making his promise to start a whole new life that is completely out of his sense of normalcy.

Whatever worries I have instantly go away when my husband meets my eyes and gives me that warm smile of his. Moving around the bed, he approaches me with a light kiss to my lips and asks, "Ready?"

"Yea," I nod. Fresh band-aids in place, we take each other's hands and head out.
