Crimson Ties Sidefic 2 - Instinct
Wufei smirked to himself as he stared the glowing screen of his computer. "Go'cha," he muttered as his scaled fingers typed furiously to send the command that would destroy the virus that had sneaked beyond the firewall of his new client.
Of course, the computer technician had made fast timing in locating and correcting the problem that he had been called in for. And he was even able to resolve the issue from home, a nice perk since he enjoyed spending as much time with his wife and their newborns as he could. Content in having helped set their daughter of the twins to bed after her bath, Chang set to his work at Anna's insistence that she was able to handle their son alone.
Even though John and Isabel were now over three months old, it still never ceased to amaze him that he was a father, something that not very long ago was an impossible thing to ever dream of.
Were any Livings aware that a pair of Vampires were raising children, questions would have been raised over whether or not they would be suitable guardians.
Hell, even Wufei had to admit that he had his concerns surrounding whether or not he and Anna were able to rear children in this world. Once he first learned that his Chosen was pregnant, a whole surge of doubts and fear had resided in him even to this night.
Broken from his trailing thoughts by the sound of a loud crash from the bathroom, the Infected's hands froze above the keyboard in an instant as his eyes widened. Up on his feet, he all but crashed through the closed door of his office at the same time that his partner shrieked, "Wufei! Help!" He shot down the hallway in a blur, and came to an abrupt stop at the sight that awaited him.
Lying on the floor half-in and half-out of the bathroom, Anna was on her back and staring frantically at the naked and wet baby in her arms. Curled close to her chest, little John was blinking with enlarged eyes up at his mother. Biting her lip against the tears filling her gaze, the redhead whimpered, "The bath rug slipped out from under me when I was pulling him out of the tub and I fell with him."
His body moving before he could even process the whole picture, Wufei grabbed the fallen towel from the ground and draped it over the pudgy baby that his wife was raising up to him. Only whimpering when he lifted, the child was turned and inspected closely with a relieved sigh from his father. "He's fine," he reassured Anna as she pulled herself to stand close by them.
Rubbing the side of her head where the bruise that she earned by hitting the bathroom door on the way down throbbed, the redheaded Vampire gently caressed the back of their son's peach-fuzzed head with her spare hand. "Everything happened so fast, I just spun so that I fell backward to take the worst of the impact as I pulled John up against me."
"That's your natural protective instinct," Chang smiled warmly. "You looked after your little one before worrying about yourself."
John contented himself with sucking on his hand, looking every bit the content child he typically was while the Chinese Infected reached out with a free arm to cup the side of his wife's face. Though the slight bruises and little nicks from obstacles involved in the fall were healing before his eyes, he couldn't help but ask softly, "Are you alright?"
Anna swallowed roughly with a watery smile. "Yea," she managed softly. "Just a bit shaken up."
Nodding firmly, Wufei replied, "That is more than understandable." He kissed her other cheek and whispered by her ear, "You should be proud of how you handled yourself, Mom. I know I am."
Tears sprang anew into the gold-rimmed, blue irises as his creator grinned, "Thanks, Dad."
Hand-in-hand, the couple walked towards the nursery to put their son to bed.
As for those fears and doubts that Wufei had over whether or not they would be able to handle this new aspect of their existences, they were forever put to rest in the wake of Anna's paternal impulse that saved John in that split second.
They were up for this. And just like every other life experience, they would be able to face anything as long as they faced it together... with a few other additions along the way.
OWARI
Author's Note: Ian and I are fine. :0) I was more shaken up while he just looked at me with a smile and a 'Let's do that again' look as I recovered from the blow to the head. LOL
