Home At Last

Like every morning before when he'd stayed with his partner, Heero woke to the smell of breakfast cooking downstairs. A small smile on his lips, his cobalt eyes blinked open with a soft sigh. Judging by how bright the room was from the light glowing past the closed window blinds, it was well into the morning.

He knew that Duo hated the mornings. But he always made it a point to be up before the ex-Wing pilot when he came back from a mission so he could provide a good meal. It was just one of the many perks that came with the stay.

Pushing himself up from the mattress, Heero ran a hand through his unruly hair and headed to the adjoining bathroom for a quick shower. When he stepped back out, he changed into the fresh clothes that were neatly folded and waiting for him there along with two blue, furry bunny slippers. Yet another little reminder from Duo that he was still human.

With a quiet chuckle of amusement, Agent Wing slipped into the clean boxers, sweatpants and white T-shirt before stepping into the slippers and heading out. By the time he made it downstairs and into the kitchen, his braided partner was just wrapping up at the stove in a pair of plaid sleep pants and red T-shirt.

Looking over his shoulder to watch his friend head to the small table in the room, Duo grinned, "'Morning, 'Ro. Sleep well?" Before his best friend even needed to ask, he poured a cup of coffee and handed it over.

"Yes, thank you," Heero replied while Agent Scythe returned to the stove. Silently, he watched the other Preventer turn off the burners and prepare two plates filled with eggs, bacon, toast and pancakes.

Shuffling over to the table in his own gray bunny slippers to sit across from his partner, the braided pilot handed over one of the plates and asked, "So how'd the mission go?"

Inwardly, the Japanese agent smirked. Neither of them liked being separated on missions; they had been in this last case for precautionary measures. He knew that Duo had been anxious for the details of the assignment ever since he'd shown up on his doorstep. But he was patient and gave Heero the time and space he needed before asking.

And so a quiet conversation began regarding the mission, the close calls and the eventual take down of the 'bad guys'. Pleased to know that there was nothing to really be worried about, the American grinned and nodded at the end of the telling. "Still wish to hell I could have been there to watch your back," he commented. "I don't really trust anyone else with the job."

For Heero, he echoed that sentiment. Really, there was no one else he wanted to work with in the field than his braided comrade. Whenever it was Duo sent off without him, he had the same concerns of not being there, himself, to look after him.

In the whole of his life, the ex-Wing pilot had been fashioned and prepared to be the ultimate soldier. So one would only think that he was comfortable when he was in the field carrying out a mission. Hell, he had expected the same thing for himself.

But it was these moments, sitting with Duo in bunny slippers, when Heero felt the most comfortable... the most normal.

Solidified in his decision from the prior night, Yuy finished his meal and leaned forward to announce, "I decided that I want to move closer to headquarters. It's too long of a commute from headquarters."

Duo's violet eyes widened and blinked in surprise. "Really? Any idea of what area you want to look at for a new place?"

Chewing on the inside of his cheek, Heero answered, "I was actually hoping that maybe I could move in here... with you."

Instantly, a mix of shock and... terror flashed across the braided pilot's face. "W-wha?" he sputtered. The color drained from his face as that look of fear only grew, making Agent Wing worry that he'd done something wrong to make the suggestion.

Opening and closing his mouth a few times, Duo cleared his throat. Slowly lowering his head, he said quietly, "I don't know if that's such a good idea, 'Ro. There's a reason why I never offered to have you move in before."

It was then Heero's turn to be surprised. Before he could ask what was wrong, his partner quickly rose from the table with his plate muttering, "It's complicated." His back to his friend, he cleaned the small pile of dishes in the sink.

That was all that the ex-Wing pilot needed to hear to understand. Smiling to himself, he pushed himself up and stood behind his partner. "You're in love with me,'" he stated. And he had his answer beyond any doubt when those shoulders stiffened rigidly as Duo froze in place.

Were there any further questions to his own feelings, Heero had the answers to that as well in that moment. Reaching past his comrade, he turned the sink off and gently turned the braided agent until he was facing him.

Duo slowly raised his lowered head. The naked, scared swirl of emotions behind those violet eyes shook the Japanese pilot to the core at being able to actually see the love his partner had for him. It was a limitless, intense love that had always been there, but that he was only now realizing.

Finally finding his voice, Heero admitted, "I know how you tuck me in whenever I spend the night." A small, strangled sound escaped his panicked friend as he made a sudden move to try to run away. Holding him tightly in place by the shoulders, Agent Wing kept their gazes locked as he said, "It's one of the things I look forward to the most when I come here."

Very slowly, the frantic look on the braided Preventer's face faded into realization and surprise. If Yuy had really known about how he would tuck him in, kissing him on the cheek for some time now, he would never had allowed it to continue if he did not like it.

Shaking his head, Duo frowned, "'Ro, I... Yes, I'm in love with you. That's why I never offered to have you move in. It would be too... difficult for me to not be able to do anything about it. Tucking in is one thing, but I would want a lot more than just that."

Heero smiled. A real, genuine smile that made his partner's eyes widen. "Maybe I wouldn't mind more than that," he stated in little more than a whisper. Quickly leaning in, he pressed a soft kiss over the lips that parted for a gasp to escape them.

While the exchange was a chaste one, it was filled with the promise of much more to come.

Instead of fear and uncertainty, only a new awareness and awe remained in the violet eyes watching Heero as he smirked, "So, about that moving in-" He was quieted when Duo lunged forward to kiss him fiercely.

Clinging onto his partner tightly, Yuy's eyes drifted closed as he basked in the warmth flooding through him. This was everything that he wanted and more.

Finally, he was really home.
