And I wonder, day to day
I don't like you anyway
I don't need your shit today
You're pathetic in your own way

Crimson Ties Part 104

Dorothy's muffled cry filled the air as Solo lifted her up to sling her over his shoulder in a flash. Try as he might to appear unaffected by the sudden move, the briefest glimpse of concern in Shinigami's glowing irises gave him away. "Ah. So, you're weakened by feeling things. That's the problem with associating to your wielder's emotions. You'll have a time bringing me down when you have to worry about her safety," the blonde Reformer smirked to his twin.

Flailing on his shoulder, the Seer groaned and shrieked in her vain effort to free herself. "Normally I wouldn't fall back on a method like this," Solo shrugged, keeping a strong arm around Catalonia's waist to hold her in place without any effort on his part. "But I really don't care to play by the rules at this point," he grinned darkly. "And I am only worried about winning, whatever the means of getting there."

"Let her go," Shinigami ordered in a low growl, boring that fiery glare down on his enemy. "This is just between us." Just then, a loud swoosh sounded overhead at the same time that a dark shadow shot into their peripheral view. Wide-eyed, the hybrids stared up in surprise as a glistening figure descended just beside the braided Reformer.

The wide span of his wings folding back into the armor against his back, Heero's own back was rigid as he glared at a stunned Solo across from him. Every fiber in his being fought him, crying to pull his lover into his arms so that he could kiss and hold him.

Even as his darker self, Duo was still present. The bond between them was more than enough proof of that. And if that was not enough, the way that Shinigami lit up and flashed him a loving smile would have melted the last of any potential doubt. It was Maxwell's smile every bit as much as it was his darker half's smile.

For the time being, though, a more proper reunion would have to wait.

Daring to at the very least rest a hand against the small of his Companion's back, Yuy was further reassured at the way it pressed back against his hand to lean against his touch. Under his breath, he asked, "Are you both alright?"

"Yea," Shinigami replied, the croaking deepness of his tone pulling back to sound more like Duo as he glanced from the corner of his eye to meet the gold-and-cobalt stare on him. Fangs retracting, he smirked, "We're good." The Original gave him a small, relieved smile at that before they returned their focus on their challenger.

Slowly removing his hand to remove the rod hanging at his side, Heero slipped it into Maxwell's hand between them as he murmured, "Under normal circumstances, I would have brought you roses. But, I thought that you could use this more."

Feeling the leather casing that he knew all too well to belong to his scythe, the braided Reformer chuckled and sighed, "God, I love you." Very subtly, he tucked his weapon into the back pocket of his jeans.

His face red with rage at having the unexpected addition, Solo retracted his fangs and grumbled, "Well, it's getting awfully crowded up here." Without a bit of hesitation on his part, the hybrid became a blur of himself until he came to a stop at the nearest ledge of the fifteen-story facility. Tears spilling from her eyes, Dorothy whimpered and shook her head when she was hefted by both of her maker's hands until she was directly over his head.

Gasping, Duo resumed complete control of himself and the glow of his eyes dissipated as he and his wide-eyed lover shouted as one, "NO!"

Not paying them any mind, Solo tossed his Seer over the ledge. Free falling, Catalonia's eyes squeezed closed while her prolonged scream followed her down to the earth below. Expecting the painful collision with the ground that would end her, she instead felt herself being caught up against a strong chest at the same time that she sensed herself being lifted at a rapid pace. Her eyelids cracking open, they widened in awe of watching the world pull away from her. Peering up, she blinked at Heero's face.

Duo's wide eyes caught his partner's flight off with Dorothy safely in his care. Content as he was that the Other was safe, the braided Companion was too stricken by his disbelief and mortified disgust to tear his focus from his brother. "You fucking bastard," he whispered. "And here I thought that there might be some part of you that was worth redeeming." His fist clenching at his sides again, he glared and hissed, "But you've pretty much proven what a damn idiot I was for hoping that!"

Snorting, Solo folded his arms as he turned fully to face his twin. "And what would your saving me from myself do when it won't change the fact that I'm going to die regardless? I have invested too much of myself to my cause to look back now." His fangs sank back into view and his irises flashed with a burning light when he warned in a deep rumbling growl, "So, let's make good on our promise to each other and finish this one way or the other."

That was the last word exchanged between the brothers before Shinigami surged forward at his wielder's stepping aside to that he could control their shared body. Snarling and shooting forward, the hybrids met in the middle of the roof with a explosive crash. Their bodies kicking, punching, dodging and weaving over their long battle ground, everything was thrown into the mix by both challengers in a blur of motion.

Just to bring a swift end to the struggle, the braided hybrid removed his scythe, twisting the rod halves to bring the glowing curve of a blade to life and swung down from over his head with both hands. A hair's length away from slicing his own face, Solo took his twin by surprise by unsheathing a long sword that he had hidden beneath the back of his black shirt.

To the wide eyes on him, he kept their crossed blades together between them as the blonde Reformer smirked, "One of the advantages to having a Seer. Before the attacks on your so-called family, Dorothy saw Howard working out the details of the new Gundanium metal that had been discovered." Growling, he pushed Shinigami back and their brutal skirmish continued.

High over them, Heero cursed under his breath and carried Dorothy along with him in a downward swoop for the top of the cliffs. Once his feet touched the ground, he set his charge onto her own and made quick work of removing the ropes around her hands. Her head lowered the shaken Seer reached up and untied the gag around her mouth as the Infected asked in sincere concern, "Are you okay?"

A stifled whimper broke from the Other and she did her best to nod, only she fell apart into a heap of wracking sobs when Yuy wrapped her in a tight embrace. That simple act of kindness undid Catalonia all over again. Even after everything that she had done to the Original's family, he was still able to embrace her.

"Trent and Rosshe going to be thrilled to see you," the Vampire smiled sadly to the wide-eyed Seer as he pulled back to meet her shimmering gaze. "I should get you to them so that you can be taken to the safety of my home-"

Dorothy's gasp cut him off and she gripped the armor along his arm. "I can't leave yet," she insisted, "Not without the kids. Solo left TJ and Rachel with Meiran just before-"

It was her turn to be cut off when Heero's eyes widened with an all but shouted, "What?!" Already, his mind was racing with the realization that his sister was off on a hunt for the horrid Infected when she moved ahead of their family's clan. If the children were still alive after being alone with Meiran up to that moment, it was only so that she could use them.

Torn over who to check on first, be it Duo or Anna, he stared up at the roof and thought of the sight that the hybrids made in their furious battle. Shinigami was more than holding his own. What was more, Yuy feared of potentially being in the way if he tried to get involved now. However, his sister was heading straight into whatever trap had likely been laid out for her...

And Anna was on her own.

His eyes narrowing, Heero warned in a growl, "Hang on." That was all the warning he gave before he retracted his wings and pulled Dorothy into his back. Running through the blasted entrance of the oil refinery in a blur of himself, he began at the start to try and pick up his sister's scent to follow her footsteps.

A kick beneath Anna's chin as she lay recovering on the floor from the last series of blows, sent her head reeling back. Hissing sharply, she spun up to her feet once more and tackled the female Wild down in return for catching her off-guard when she was busy fending for herself. One hard punch across the blonde's face was strong enough to knock her out to join the other bodies strewn about the floor.

That immediate threat handled, the Irish Infected stumbled back to catch herself against the edge of the fire bath. Panting and now covered with ghastly cuts and bruises from top to bottom, she shook her head to it when the world spun on her. "Come on. Hold it together," she told herself under her breath, turning her head to spit out a mouthful of blood. While Duo's blood helped speed up her healing ability tremendously, there was little down time like this before another injury was inflicted.

Beneath the many tattered holes and gashes in her purple hoodie and T-shirt, Anna's silver bodice shone in the gleam of the torches that lit the room. One long line that etched its way the length of her abdomen was particularly troubling to her. Had it not been for that protective guard, the blade swipe would have surely killed her baby, if not the both of them in the process.

Deep in their den, a new and fresh wave of Wilds were fighting their way to the surface so that they could have their shot at the redheaded Vampire. And Meiran was all too pleased to sit back and watch the whole show from the safety of her nook atop the highest catwalk in the space. Arms folded against her chest as she leaned against the wall, she giggled in anticipation at seeing a handful more of the beasts nearing the edge of their cage.

Well aware that she needed to move before she had another round to contend with, Anna focused on the children hanging overhead. Seeing their tear-streaked faces, the clouds of her vision cleared and her desire to get them out of harm's way kicked in a plan for this rare break in the action around her.

Gold-and-blue eyes narrowing in cleared focus, the Irish immortal bounded onto the edge of the round tub and made another leap just as a particularly nasty Wild screamed in his rage at having the hand that he had reached for find only air. Losing his balance from having thrown his whole body forward, he fell into the fire pit where his pained wails were quickly silenced when the liquid, burning rock consumed him.

Her hands wrapping around the thick chain from which her little charges were dangling, Anna settled her feet in the dip of the thick hook beside the ropes that held them. Startled, TJ and Rachel peered up at her with wide eyes. "Hold on!" she shouted over the building commotion along the ground as even more Wilds began to storm around the melting bed.

Gripping both hands around the suspension chain, the Vampire hunched down to lean her body back and forth to bring the whole contraption to sway back and forth. Momentum built, as did the length of the swing, its reach drawing closer and closer to the catwalks. Whimpering, the children closed their silvered eyes tight as they were carried high over the monsters filling the floor, only to be swept away to near the walls.

"Come on," Anna gritted through her teeth when her long reach fell just shy of making it to the structural beam that had become her goal. If she could reach that, she would be able to land on the second highest catwalk in the massive room, well out of the reach of the Wilds and closer to Meiran before the vile vixen could get away.

On the dizzying descent and lift out into the open air, her long ponytail whirled behind the Siren as she spun her whole body around the hook to have all of the inches she could in the swing back. Paying no mind to the Wilds that attempted to jump at her when the hook hurled back over the fire bath, she growled deeply as she stretched herself as far as she could without falling into the pit of blood-thirsty creatures below.

At the highest peak of the rock, Anna's fingertips made contact with the cold beam and she latched on with a hook of her arm. Quickly jumping onto the catwalk that it supported, she used both hands to keep the hook in place.

Sweat pouring down her face, the Infected grunted and groaned in the effort of dragging the pendulum close enough that she could snap through the ropes with her fangs. Once the children were free and safe in the security of her arm, she allowed the hook to fall away. Bringing the sniffling little ones safely onto the catwalk with her, she removed her blood-covered ankle dagger to slice through their restraints.

Not giving herself another moment to hesitate, the redhead shot around the full perimeter of the walkway, firing her crossbow to send her arrows through the hinges of the ground level's dropdown ladders leading up to the first series of catwalks that were two stories over the floor. At the loss of their only way up to the Infected, the Wilds that were just within feet of reaching the alternative route howled and screeched in rage.

Collapsing to her knees when she returned to Rachel and TJ as they finished removing the tape from their mouths, Anna sighed deeply when they threw themselves forward to wrap their arms around her neck. Her eyes closing, she rained kisses on the top of their heads. "I need you kids to stay right here, okay?" she requested softly. "I promise I'll be back for you as soon as I'm finished with Meiran."

Silently dreading being parted from the pretty Vampire that had saved them, the tiny Others sniffled and nodded when she pulled back. "I am coming back for you," the Irish Infected vowed as she dried their faces. "But I need to know that you're safe. Neither of you should be around to see what I have to do." Understanding filled the little ones' eyes and they gave their rescuer another round of hugs.

Anna climbed back to her feet, the bleeding wounds that she had endured finally closing on her. Eyes narrowed in a heated glare, she shot forward and scaled the last level of catwalks to reach the top. The second she reached the top, she materialized at the unexpected smack of a force that she came up against. Rolling back, she blinked in surprise as Meiran appeared.

"Well, well, well. This is a surprise. So you finally decided to not hide behind an army and face me yourself, sweetheart?" the redhead snapped, turning her head to wipe away at the weeping gash across her right cheek.

The tip of the long dagger in her hand dripping with her long-time enemy's blood, Meiran sneered viciously past her growing fangs, "Actually, this is exactly what I have wanted all along."

A dark smirk curling the corner of her lips, Anna's own fangs revealed themselves as she replied in a low rumble, "Yea. Me, too." An animalistic, ripping snarl broke from her as she launched herself at the beauty. Hissing and screaming in their attack, the Infected engaged themselves into a fury that rose even louder than the Wilds that continued to reel in their anger at being so far from their sought after targets.

Slowly but surely, the world returned to Trent. Groaning, he fought his heavy eyelids to open them. After a few blinks to bring his focus back, he stared at the familiar ceiling of Yuy and Maxwell's living room. The sounds of voices that he knew all too well speaking urgently amongst themselves filled his ears. Picking up on Sally's low timbre as she gave soft orders, the events leading up to his last memories came flooding back.

He had been injured... worse than the former Hunter had originally thought. It wasn't long before he remembered how quickly his vision blackened while his friends' urgency in overseeing him picked up considerably from the time he first returned to the safety of the estates. 'Nicked artery' and 'bleeding out' were broken phrases that Doctor Po had used that he actually acknowledged.

Suddenly very afraid for his condition, Greyson tried to sit up when a cold hand pressed against the center of his exposed chest to push him back down. "Easy there," a soft voice urged. "You're healing from the blood that I gave you, but you haven't replenished all of the blood that you lost yet."

That was a voice that he hadn't expected to hear.

Frowning in confusion, Trent turned his head to take in the short-haired Vampire sitting on the edge of his bed. Her gold-and-emerald eyes held a mix of sadness and relief as they watched him. "Tricia?" he managed in a croak. The beautiful, long-haired brunette was a creature that he had come to know through training her partner, Zeke, for the weeks leading up to the battle.

As the Hunter allowed himself to be lowered onto his back again, he could feel just how weak he was from his close call. But he still wanted to understand what was going on before he could try and relax. "W-what are you-" he cut himself off with a sharp gasp when he noticed the glistening Companion band in her lap... without its owner.

"Oh God," Greyson whispered, his eyes closing against the shimmer that filled them. Swallowing past the lump in his throat, he could feel the surroundings that he blocked out whirling on him again. A gentle hand rested on his good shoulder to squeeze it.

It was a terribly foolish thing for him to hope that all of his students would come out of the battle unscathed. He knew that there would be losses. However, that did not take the edge of pain away at having to acknowledge those creatures that he had befriended... that had become like a family to him even more than the Hunters when he had spent a much shorter time with them.

Tricia's soothing and emotion-thick voice returned to reassure softly, "Zeke died happy because he was able to finally fight for what he believed in. And he was only able to do that thanks to you, Trent. I miss him... God, I miss him so much-" A sob stopped her broken words short, but she gathered herself and breathed, "But he left this world happy because of you. I think... I think that I can exist with that, even if he is gone."

His teeth biting into his bottom lip, Greyson opened his watery eyes to see a small band of other Vampires that he had made a strong acquaintance with move to stand by his bed. All carrying a heaviness in their postures and gazes along with a Companion band in their possession, they also held a great deal of appreciation and respect for the living.

Smiling through the tears running down her face, the striking Infected beside him commented, "You gave them all a purpose that being with us alone could not fulfill. For that, we will all be forever in your debt." Her fellow Infected around her nodded and grinned in a sincere backing of the sentiment.

Moved, Trent's mouth opened and closed in a few attempts to reply. Finally giving up when his voice wouldn't work, he sighed and smiled warmly to his friends in appreciation. Resting a hand over his chest, he thought of the irony around his being a reformed Hunter to now having Vampire blood flowing through his veins.

Life certainly was full of surprises.

Anna's teeth crushed her tongue when she was thrown back against the wall behind her in a harsh slam. Tasting the blood in her mouth even as the bite marks healed up, she glared on her attacker and threw her to the ground. A tangle of arms and legs as they rolled along the unsteady catwalk, the Vampires continued their taking and delivering of blows.

Nearly equally matched in every way, the only slight advantage that Meiran had over the redhead was the face that the Wilds had taken quite a bit out of her- just as the raven-haired vixen had intended to have happen. Still, the Irish immortal remained a real challenge to be dealt with thanks to her advanced healing abilities. Were it not for Duo's blood in her, she would have been a goner early on in the fight.

Locking her enemy's head in her arm, Anna brought it down into her own raising knee to send her reeling back with a bloodied nose and a sharp cry of pain. Her legs wobbling on her a bit, she took hold of the hand railing beside her to steady herself and fought to catch her breath. "Not... bad... for a primped up princess," she admitted begrudgingly. "But... not... good enough."

"Can't say I didn't expect a pile of street scum like yourself to know how to scrap," Meiran snorted when she got her bearings again. Getting a firm hold on her dagger once more, she lurched forward to resume where they'd left off.

Back on the roof, Duo and Solo were bloodying each other likewise in their own exchange. Neither having a clear advantage over the other, the hybrids danced around and took shots at each other as they covered the impressive length of their battlefield.

Their blades locking yet again, Shinigami hissed in his try to better his twin. "We would have tried to find a way to save you," he snarled. "Your situation might look bleak, but there might be a way to help. We only needed you and some time for a possible solution to form."

"Like I'm supposed to believe that," the blonde Reformer snorted, his voice every bit as deep and threatening. "I'd never be welcomed by your precious Infected after the things I've done when they've shown how they'll even turn on their own for lesser crimes than any I committed." Smirking, he added, "And then there's what I am about to do to you. There will be no forgiveness for me then."

His braided brother snorted, "Big talk since you still haven't been able to best me yet. But go on and keep trying." Their blades were pushed away just to clang together over and over as their fight picked right back up.

It would be a long time before words were exchanged between them again. Instead, it was only the inhuman sounds of their grueling exchange that filled the air between the loud clashing of their weapons.

~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~

Spinning to her feet after being knocked down onto her side, Anna dodged a downward plunge from Meiran that would have ended with a dagger plunging into her face. Quickly whirling herself on a high roundhouse kick, she caught the raven-haired Infected off-guard and unable to shield herself from the shot that landed into her shoulder. Collapsing with a cry of pain, the vixen shook her clouded head to regain her senses.

By then, the redhead was really showing the physical and mental wear from their long attack. Her movements more sluggish in both delivering and recovering, the difference between her and Khushrenada were much more noticeable since the eternal beauty was far faster in her movement.

Using the short break to catch her breath, Anna fell to lean back against the railing and wiped the back of her hand across her damp brow. "I'm getting... pretty damn tired... of this," she grumbled through her pants, glaring down at her enemy.

From her prone state on all fours on the chicken-wired metal floor, Meiran watched her immortal foe step on a particularly rickety length of the walkway. Smirking to herself as a long cut on her left cheek closed up, she muttered, "Yea. I am, too."

At her next step, the catwalk beneath the Irish Infected groaned loudly and the weight of her foot sagged below the base supports. Instantly realizing the danger she had unknowingly walked right into, her fangs retracted and eyes closed that heartbeat before she fell completely away with the stretch of catwalk that crashed into the level beneath it with a deafening bang.

Only managing to grip the edge of the remaining railing that she had been leaning against at the last second before she went down to be pierced by the sharp-edged mangled mess of a metal bed beneath her, Anna swung back and forth in midair. Growling in her struggle to pull herself back up to the secured floor, her eyes grew in watching Meiran's swift approach.

"Now I win, you little bastard," the immortal beauty hissed as she lunged forward with her bloodied, jagged-edged dagger flying tip-first for the Siren's exposed neck.

Eyes narrowing, Anna released a hand to spin herself at the last moment. That quick turn made a fatal wound little more than a nick along the side of her throat since it as too late for the other Infected to stop herself. Her free hand reaching out to grip her attacker's arm when it sailed past her, the redhead pulled her half over the ledge in the same blink that she took control of the long blade that cut her.

Crying out in fear at being tugged off her balance, Meiran's voice was cut off at the feeling of the cold steel of her own weapon when it was buried into her chest to its hilt. A dribble of blood rolled past her parting lips as she took a hoarse, sharp breath of air.

The ire in her eyes never fading, the redhead slowly climbed to her feet while leaving the dagger in its fleshy home. Giving the hilt a sharp twist that brought on a crack from the chest bone that it penetrated, Anna's fangs grew back in as she pulled her wheezing enemy close to whisper by her ear, "That's for Howard."

Not giving the shuddering Infected a chance to overcome the numbing pain, the Irish Infected shifted her right wrist to face up so that the switchblade in her silver arm band could reveal itself. Embedding that into the middle of the beauty's spine with a loud thud and another crack of bone, she gritted, "That's for Father Maxwell."

Paralyzed by the blows and the mind-freezing agony that wracked her, Meiran stared forward blankly. Her vision was darkening at its edges, but she could still see Anna when she stepped before her.

"And for your new friends that you're responsible for losing not only their Vampires but everything dear in their existences, I'll leave them the honor of finishing you off," the redhead growled before she lifted the vile immortal over her shoulder to hurl her over the railing, sending Meiran helplessly wailing the whole way down into the pit of Wilds that reached up to claim her.

In a frenzy, the mindless beings tore their fallen prize limb from limb with loud bellows of excitement. Falling back from the railing, Anna hurried back against the wall behind her before her knees gave out. A hand shooting up to cover her mouth at the wave of nausea that overtook her, she closed her wide eyes and forced a few deep breaths to steady herself.

Once she had her bearings back, the Irish Infected made good on the promise that she had made to her little charges. Becoming a blur of herself, she rounded the top level of catwalks to descend to the floor beneath her to return where she had left TJ and Rachel. True to their own words, the young Others were huddled together, not having moved an inch as they had vowed.

Smiling tiredly when she materialized before them, Anna lowered herself back to her knees. Wide grins spreading across the little ones' faces, they threw themselves into her opening arms and clung to her.

The relieved sigh that the redhead made was stopped short when she heard a blood-curdling rumble of a snarl behind her. In a flash, she was back on her feet and facing five very imposing Wilds that had somehow managed to climb their way up to the high perch. The corners of their mouths curling up in sinister smirks that promised a world of hurt for the Infected, they chuckled lowly.

Oh... this was bad.

Anna knew the disadvantage she was at with not having had enough time to recover from her long ordeal. Facing these brutes, she wouldn't be much of a match against them. Even the thought of trying to run while carrying the tiny ones had her shuddering in the knees. She could take out the first couple of threats quickly enough, but the remaining would be able to take her.

Gently pushing her charges behind her without looking on them, the Siren whispered, "TJ. Rachel. Don't move until I give you enough time to run." Raising her right arm, it shook from the weakness that flooded every inch of her body that had yet to completely heal as the children whimpered and fell back a couple paces behind her.

Drawing a deep breath and panting for more air that had become all too needed in her injured state, Anna glared at the stalking Wilds and managed in a slur, "Come 'n. 'm... only getting' warmed up."

A harmonized howl broke from the lot and they sprang forward when a series of blasts filled the air from behind them. Falling unconscious at the stunned redhead's feet, they revealed a glistening figure that had snuck up unaware to bring them down.

Cobalt-and-gold eyes locking onto his sister's wide-eyed gaze, Heero dropped his pistol and his whole tense body sagged with a deep sigh of relief.

Her arm falling to her side, Anna's bottom lip quivered and her vision wavered from the tears filling it. Whimpering, she was caught up in her brother's arms when he closed the distance between them in a rush. "God, I was worried sick over you," Yuy breathed by her ear after he rained kisses along her bruised and bleeding face.

Through the tears pouring past her closed eyelids, the redhead managed to half-giggle-half-sob against his shoulder. Blinking up at the Original, she gave him a smile that was both brilliant and exhausted as the injuries and the exertion that her changing person had endured that day caught up to her.

But tired as she was, her concern for her small charges outweighed consideration of her own condition.

Glancing back to see that TJ and Rachel were not only safe but reconnecting with a beautiful blonde Other that was crouching to embrace them, the Irish immortal batted her eyelids to clear away the last of the shimmer that clouded her sight.

"Dorothy," her crackling voice whispered in realization. Grinning, she greeted to the grateful Seer, "So nice te fin'ly meet-" Her voice trailing off and her eyes closing on her, she collapsed in what was an attempted step towards Catalonia.

Quickly catching her before she could fall far, Heero cried, "Anna!" Scooping her into his arms, he cursed through his teeth when her head fell back. At bringing her head close to his neck, he could have cried when she was still strong enough to instinctually sink her fangs past his skin there to drink.

The initial euphoric wave passing, Yuy continued to cradle his unconscious sister close against him and asked Dorothy, "Do you think you can handle them on my back if I flew us out of here? I need to get her to Wufei. Now."

Nodding, the Seer rose with a child easily holding onto either of her shoulders. A determination in her silvered eyes, she replied, "Let's go."

Her Master was close.

Celeste could feel it.

Walking completely unnoticed amidst the battles taking place throughout the oil refinery, she smiled to herself.

And when she found him, she knew that he would be pleased when she brought on the fire.
