Gundam Wing: The First Chapter Part 5
"Hey, Heero! Wait up!" Duo called out in a muffled voice, his teeth biting down on two pieces of toast as he ran towards the Japanese pilot. Juggling his textbooks and forcing them under his arm, he watched as Heero finally stopped and turned around to wait for the braided teenager.
Both wore their school uniform blouses, pants and ties as they made their way through the campus. It was a beautiful, clear day outside and the two Gundam pilots prepared themselves for another day of classes. The gentle breeze played with their hair while a few leaves spun and danced around them. Inwardly, Heero couldn't believe how Duo managed to find him more than one week after the New Edwards incident.
It was in the middle of one of his lessons at this school when the teacher stopped the class to introduce a new exchange student. Looking up from his book, his cobalt eyes met brilliant violet as the new 'exchange student' gazed right at him amidst the full room of scholars. Heero growled inwardly as Duo introduced himself before walking to his desk, that long braid of his swinging behind him. Throughout the remainder class, the two boys occasionally glanced at each other when the other wasn't looking. They had met up on the basketball court that afternoon. It was at that same time that Relena made the scene, riding in that pink limo of hers and making matters even more difficult for the Wing pilot. Thankfully, the insistent girl did not take great pains in visiting regularly once she had discovered his location.
Heero watched, now, as the braided pilot ran towards him. His face remained as passive as ever when the American reached him, biting down on the toast in his mouth before taking the remainder in his free hand as he chewed. Walking beside each other, they made their way to the main building of the school, managing to avoid any contact with the other students doing the same. Smiling brightly after he swallowed his breakfast, Duo winked at his friend and asked, "You up for a basketball game later today?"
Turning his cobalt eyes from the other boy, Heero deadpanned, "I don't see the point in playing anything if it isn't related to class."
Duo's smile remained as he shook his head, "Come on, man. You really should take my advice and lighten up a bit. With our involvement in this war, there's no telling how much time we have to enjoy ourselves when we can." He was the only person Heero knew who could smile while speaking of their impending death.
"Baka," the Wing pilot hissed under his breath. "You don't take anything serious, do you?" It was more of a statement than a question as Heero turned his narrowed eyes to meet confused violet. Duo's smile had faded into a slight frown as he waited for the Japanese teenager to continue. Unable to see his face any longer, Heero turned his head forward as they continued walking. There was a long pause before Heero finally asked, "Why did you make the effort to find me?"
At this, Duo's smile returned as he answered, "I like you. And while you may find it hard to believe, I consider you a good friend of mine." Heero's eyes lost their deathly glare and he avoided looking over at the other boy. Duo smiled. "Someone has to watch your back to make sure that you don't get yourself killed." He chuckled. "Preferably someone other than one who could be considered boarder-line stalker, like a certain Foreign Minister's daughter." Though his face remained impassive, Heero allowed that statement a small snort.
"I don't need anyone looking out for me," the Japanese pilot stated clearly.
Nodding at this, Duo's smile grew. "Let's just say that it's all in my plan in getting you to beg me to stay one of these days." Before anything more could be said, the large bells at the top of the class facility began to ring. The boys gazed up at the large building. "Five minute warning," Duo noted. Turning back to his friend, he smiled brightly and waved. "I'll see you at lunch time, pal." Running off ahead down the path winding to the other side of the facility, Duo turned back and waved again. "Have a good day, Heero!"
Heero simply watched the American run off, his face devoid of any emotion as he thought of the braided boy's words. Friend... Heero Yuy never had any friends. Why was this person so determined to be friends with him? Shaking his head and closing his eyes, Heero muttered under his breath. "Baka." Focusing on the large building, he walked to his first class, banishing any thought of the vibrant pilot from his mind.
* * * * * *
That night, Heero and Duo were lying in their beds in their dorm. The Wing pilot slept soundly with his back to the other bed. Duo's own back was to Heero's bed as he lied wide awake. His hair was out of its usual braid and pulled back in a long ponytail that fell along his back by one rubber band at the base of his head. Sighing softly, he tried to put aside the thoughts that prevented the comfort of sleep. Smirking wickedly to himself, he decided to alleviate some stress the best way he knew at times like this.
Being a teenage boy filled with hormones, Duo saw nothing wrong in relieving himself. It had become easier for him since the day he had met a certain Wing pilot. Speaking of which... Duo sat up slightly and turned his head to see if the other boy was still sleeping. While Heero's back was to him just a few feet away, the rising and falling of the blanket over him was proof enough that he was sound asleep.
Duo lied his head back down, his mischievous smile still in place as he shifted his arms under his blanket. Sliding his black and white striped boxers from his hips, he felt his slightly hard erection freed from its confines. Not bothering to move the dark blue blanket from his body, Duo bit his lip as his right hand took hold of his member. Closing his eyes, he bit back a small moan as he began stroking himself slowly, starting at the base and working his way up. Picturing Heero wearing only that white towel the way Duo had seen him when the Wing pilot returned from the shower was all that was needed to become rock hard instantly.
His free hand began playing with his sac as he moaned deeply and quietly, careful not to wake the other pilot. Duo began stroking himself harder and faster as he continued to see Heero, drops of water running down that firm chest as the towel around his lender hips leaving little to the imagination as far as what was beneath. Duo was panting softly as he brought himself closer and closer to the edge, imagining that it was Heero's callused hands touching him. Harder and faster, his hands worked as he had to bite back moans and gasps. Just as he felt himself close to climax, his guard slipped and a loud whimper escaped him.
Instantly, Heero's cobalt eyes slapped open. Without taking another second to think, he grabbed the gun from beneath his pillow and unlatched the safety and rolled onto his back. Throwing the blanket off with his left hand, he aimed the pistol at Duo's bed with his right as he shouted, "Who sent you, bastard!?"
The long-haired pilot gasped sharply as his violet eyes snapped wide open. 'This is NOT happening!' was his immediate thought as he turned his head back to meet Heero's narrowed eyes. Smiling and chuckling nervously, Duo shrugged, "Sorry, man. Didn't mean to scare you there. Everything's cool." The sweat on his brow was evident even with the dim moonlight falling on the floor through the widow between their beds.
Turning the lamp on beside him with his free hand, Heero's narrowed eyes and gun remained aimed at the other pilot as he asked coldly, "What the hell is going on?" With the black tank top and white running shorts he were to bed, Heero turned his lower body so that his legs fell over the side of the bed and his feet touched the floor.
Duo swallowed hard with an audible gulp and he rolled onto his back, his hands still beneath the blanket as he had absolutely no intention on raising them. His voice cracked as he smiled nervously, "Um... Nice dreams?" He noted to himself that his white T-shirt showed a few nice patches sweat that seeped through. There was no way he could try and pull his boxers up, they almost slipped past his knees and he wasn't about to make any sudden movements with a gun staring right at him. Sitting up slowly, he kept his hands safe beneath the blanket as he did his damnedest to hold back the blush that threatened to burn his skin.
The Wing never moved, not did his weapon as he ordered in a dark voice, "Move the blanket."
'Oh this is not good,' Duo whimpered mentally. His nervous smile remained as he shrugged, "Come on, man. Everything is fine, see?"
"OFF WITH IT!" Heero shouted as he began to pull the trigger back.
Duo meeped loudly, throwing the blanket off. The other boy's eyes widened in shock as his eyes took in more than what he bargained for. Duo sad with his legs crossed, boxers more that half way down his legs and a stiff erection that was seeping at the tip. Heero's right hand began to fall at his side as his wide eyes gazed there for only a half-second before they narrowed slightly and looked back at Duo's face. Blushing fiercely, the long-haired boy's right index finger came up to scratch his reddened cheek as he smiled and shrugged, "Since you asked so nice."
Heero placed the safety back on his gun as he growled deeply, "Pull those up." Duo did so quickly, not needing to hear a second time.
Through the thin material of the boxers, Duo's erection might as well have been left in the open as he quickly took the end of his white shirt and pulled it down in front to conceal his member. His blush remained as he looked down at the mattress and smirked, "Well, this is a bit embarrassing to say the least."
The Japanese pilot's eyes calmed a bit as he put the gun away without taking his gaze from those violet orbs as he asked in his normal monotone, "Is that the only way you can get any sleep?"
Duo's hand reached up to run the top of his head as he turned it away a bit and closed his eyes with a frown. Sighing softly, he answered, "Only when I have a hard time." Looking up quickly with wide eyes, his blush reddened further as he said quickly, "No pun intended there."
"I've never seen the point in doing that before," Heero said nonchalantly as he crossed his arms.
Now that was something that Duo wasn't prepared for as his eyes widened again. "You really mean you never jerked off before!?" he all but shouted. Heero remained impassive as he sat on his bed, arms still crossed and unmoving. Duo smirked, "Come on! That's one of the easiest ways to get rid of stress!"
Unfolding his arms, Heero gave a slight shrug and replied simply, "I wouldn't know. Stress doesn't have much of an effect on me."
A sinister grin crossed the American's lips as he said, "Really now?" He stood up and stalked over to the other boy with a predatory gaze. "Maybe someone just needs to show you what you're missing out on." Standing before Heero, he bent at the waist until his head was mere inches from Heero's.
Looking up into Duo's eyes, the other boy stated, "I'm not missing out on anything that I need."
"Everyone needs to be touched, Heero," Duo answered gently as he lowered his right knee between the Wing pilot's legs.
For a brief moment, it looked as though Heero was nervous at the proximity of their bodies. "What are you doing?"
Softly, the long-haired pilot whispered, "Just trust me." Any nervousness in the Japanese teen's face and posture faded and Duo leaned close to him, his own head next to the side of Heero's as his right hand slowly made its way forward. Quickly, his hand reached forward between Heero's legs and took hold of his length through the white running shorts.
Immediately, the Wing pilot's eyes widened as he gasped sharply. His right hand balled into a tight fist that flew with all the force he had, landing a punch square against the American's cheek. The strength of the blow knocked Duo back a few paces and there was already a dark bruise on his left cheek to show where the hit landed perfectly at his jawbone as his head reeled to the side.
Cobalt eyes narrowed and panting softly, Heero hissed quietly. "Pervert." Duo's head remained turned and his eyes closed as his parted lips revealed his gritted teeth. Reaching up with one hand, he tentatively brushed the backs of his fingers against the bruise stinging his cheek. Opening his eyes slightly, he paced back to his bed and closed his eyes again. Heero quickly retrieved his gun and removed the safety. Jumping from his own bed, the Wing pilot gripped the pistol with both hands as he aimed it at the longhaired boy. Glaring menacingly at him, Heero shouted, "I should have killed you when I had the chance!"
Turning his head to the right, Duo opened his left eye in a threatening glare as he growled, "Go ahead and kill me if that would make you feel better." The hand nursing his wound lowered slightly as he added, "If you see me as that much of a threat to you, pull the trigger."
Heero's death glare remained. "How can you be so calm about death!?" Duo turned his head fully so that he was gazing right into the other's eyes as he frowned sadly. The bruise on his cheek darkened slightly as he remained still. It frustrated Heero to no end and he ordered in a loud voice, "ANSWER ME!"
Duo's eyes thinned slightly through his long bangs as he replied quietly, "Death has been a part of me since I was a child. For most of my life, death was all that I ever knew. I don't have any reason to be afraid of it." Lowering his gun slowly, the Japanese boy's cobalt pools lost their glare as they calmed and filled with confusion. Duo, however, kept his eyes thin as he asked, "Are you happy? Is that what you wanted to hear? I'm a curse to everyone that I get close to." Heero remained still and kept his face emotionless as he listened.
Grunting softly, Duo lied back in his bed, pulling his sheets and blanket up over him as he closed his eyes and said, "For the success of your missions and for your own safety, you'd be doing yourself a favor by killing me." Heero never blinked. The American's eyes opened in a narrowed glare at the other boy as he continued, "If you tried smothering me with a pillow tonight, I wouldn't blame you." His head hit the pillow and he turned his back to the other boy as he concluded quietly, "And I wouldn't stop you."
Heero remained still where he stood, watching Duo quietly as the boy eased into his mattress without looking back. A small, almost sad frown fell across the impassive teenager's lips. There was much more to the lively pilot than he allowed himself to realize. It wasn't long before Duo's muscles rose and fell at an even pace as a sigh that he had fallen asleep.
After a long pause, he walked over to his bedside lamp and turned the light off. In the moonlight he walked over to his desk, close to their locked door, and lowered the gun after locking the safety. He stared down at the weapon for a moment as his hand slid his hand away. There was so much at stake for them to fail and lose this war. Heero couldn't allow himself to think of anything else other that his missions and what they required of him.
And yet... there was a strange serenity with the sound of that gentle breathing across the room.
Shaking his head, Heero clenches his fists and squeezed his eyes closed with gritted teeth as he forced that thought from his mind. He was a soldier... a weapon, nothing more. With that in mind, he looked back down at the gun on his desk and remembered his place, and that there was no room for anything in his life that did not help accomplish his tasks. "Just a distraction," he whispered to himself in the darkness.

The next morning daylight filled the dorm room as Duo's hand stretched up in a loose fist. He stretched with a loud yawn, followed by a deep groan. Sitting up in bed, his ponytail fell over one shoulder and his eyes were half-lidded as he said to himself, "Mornings still suck, even on the weekends." The bruise on his left cheek had faded slightly and the sting had gone down as he gazed across the room. Heero's bed was neatly made and there wasn't a sign of the Japanese boy anywhere. Rubbing the back of his neck with one hand, Duo's eyes saddened at the sight of the empty room and he frowned. "Must have scared him off."
Walking through the town just two miles away, Duo passed through the crowd that went through the different shops around. Dressed in his black jeans and gray T-shirt, he kept his head down and his hands in his pocket as he watched the pavement beneath him while he walked. His hair was back in its standard braid and he frowned deeply in thought. He felt terribly for how forward he had been with Heero the other night. And inwardly, he scorned himself for acting so foolishly. Duo, however, couldn't deny the fact that he was attracted to the impassive boy. There was just something about him that intrigued the American. And there was still the strange feeling of familiarity whenever he was with the Wing pilot. Duo was determined to do whatever it took to let Heero know that if nothing else, he wanted to be his friend. He just hoped there was a way he could make up for his behavior towards the Japanese boy.
Turning his head to gaze in some of the store windows he passed, he tried to think of something that he could probably pass as an apology gift. Suddenly, something did cross his eyes and he paused in his footsteps. Walking over to the window of an antique store, a bright smile lit his face as he pressed a hand against the glass. Quickly, he entered the store. The blonde-haired girl at the cashier desk smiled warmly at him as he waved and moved to his target.
Picking up the antique that caught his eye, he walked back to the young woman as she smiled and asked, "Would you like me to decorate the box that comes in?"
Duo's smiled grew as he nodded, "That would be great. Thanks." The girl nodded back as she turned and walked towards the rolls of wrapping paper and ribbons at the other and of the desk. Gazing down at the gift, he chuckled softly to himself. "I hope that he likes this," he told himself quietly.

Heero walked into the dorm room that evening to find the braided pilot lying in his bed. He closed the door behind him, watching warily. Duo smiled warmly, sitting up quickly when their eyes met. His smile faded slightly as he took a deep breath and began. "Heero, I just wanted to apologize for what I did last night."
The Wing pilot ahead of him, eyes and face as void of any emotion, but he nodded and allowed the other boy to continue. Duo's smile returned as he said, "I know that you said stress isn't something that you let get to you very often, but I figured I would get you something in case it catches up with you." Reaching behind him, he pulled out a small white box with colorful ribbons gathered at the top. "It's not much, but it might help."
As he gazed at the box, Heero's eyes widened slightly. He had never been given a gift before. Slowly, he reached out and took the present into his hand. He looked at the box a bit longer. "You got this for me?" he asked quietly, disbelief threading through his voice.
"Of course I did," Duo said laughingly. He winked, "That's what friends are for." Carefully, Heero began removing some of the ribbon. Duo bit his lip as he smiled and bounced slightly on his bed in anticipation. Once the ribbon was off, the Japanese bow removed the top hand of the box.
His cobalt eyes fell on a tall, ceramic house secured on a round, white porcelain base. Along the edge of the base, an olive vine was carefully painted as it wrapped around the sides delicately. In the side of the base, there was a small, gold key. The craftsmanship of the house was beautiful and very well detailed right down to the designs in the 'wood.' There were several smiling figures of people standing with their hands joined in pairs. Duo smiled, "Turn the key."
At this, Heero wrapped his hand around the gold key and turned it a few times. When he stopped and lowered his hand, the key turned forward on its own as a beautiful, soothing song began to play from the gift. The figurines around the house that were paired together began to dance slowly as others greeted each other while they spun around the wooden lodge. Heero watched and listened in silent wonder. Duo smiled and walked towards him. Placing his arm over the Japanese teen's shoulder, he winked. "It's not a real home, but I thought it was better than nothing."
Heero gave a small smile as he continued to gaze at the gift. "Thank you," he said quietly, sincerely.
Duo's heart warmed. Nodding with a friendly smile, he replied gently, "Don't mention it." He walked back over to his bed and sat down on the end as he sighed softly in relief. Heero moved to place the small house on his desk. Duo looked over at the window across the room.
"You know I was thinking," the braided pilot suddenly began. Heero turned back to watch as Duo walked over to the window not far from his bed. Pulling back the thick curtains, he peered his violet through the glass to gaze on the large ship that had been docked some miles from the school. The lights from the large carrier cut through the darkness that fell over the river, making it stand out as it rested peacefully.
Turning back to the Wing pilot, Duo smirked wickedly, "We still have a bet, if I'm not mistaken." A wicked smirk Heero spread across Heero's lips as he gave a nod.

The sound of massive explosions filled the sky that night as the carrier was taken by flames that rose for miles in the midst a sudden attack. Relena Peacecraft ran to the shoreline before her large hotel room as she gazed out to the massive, burning ship as the wind blew through her hair. Her face remained calm as she watched the destruction without fear.
Within moments, the entire ship was taken in a great ball of white light and a deafening blast.
And the band played on...
