The Sultan's Love Prologue

Three small figures walked quietly, backs against the wall, tip toeing their way to a secret secret room. A room that no one else knew of. Not even the maids in the palace came here. Well maybe once in a great while. They carefully avoided the guards. They never really paid that much attention to the children. They even managed to avoid their governess, who was currently looking for them. They avoided everyone.

The leader of the pack was a boy of six years. He had his father's hair of bright golden hair. His eyes were grayish blue not quite like his mother's, but he did have her face. Behind him was his twin sister. She had a darker shade of brown hair and aquamarine eyes just like her father. She held onto the hand of the youngest girl. Brown hair like her mother's and gray eyes. Her face was the same cherub face as her father's.

"What if we get caught, Raberba?" The older girl asked her brother.

"You worry to much Shalizar." He whispered.

"I do not."

"Shh, you two get us into trouble." The youngest said.

"Oh hush you."

"Jade's right, keep it down." Raberba said. "Besides we're almost there."

The children rounded the corner walking to the end of the hall they came to a large door. The three pushed on the door and it wouldn't budge. Then Raberba remembered the key. He slipped it out of his pants pocket and slid it into the key hole. Using all his might he turned it. They pushed again and the door opened. They went in and closed the door behind them. The room was beautiful. Silk scarves hung from the windows and ceiling. Pillows of every shape and size were laid out. A table with paper and writing sticks were sitting out. Each child walked into a different direction. Raberba went to the far wall that was nothing but windows. Large windows that looked out over the privet gardens. He noticed that there was a balcony with stairs leading into the gardens.

Shalizar went to a platform with mirrors around it. She could see the gardens and the rest of the room. Laying about was silk and gauze scarves and shoes. There were also books and scrolls laying around. She picked up a piece of paper and looked at it. It was a picture of a person. She couldn't read that well but she looked at the words at the bottom. She could make out the letters one was L-O-V-E and then another one the was D-U-O. She wondered what it meant.

Jade went to the table. On it was paper, lots of paper. And inks and pens and color sticks. She looked at a few pieces of paper. They had drawings on them. One had flowers on it and another was a woman and then there was man and then there was one of her father. He looked happy. She never saw him happy anymore. It was rare to see him smile or laugh. And when he looked at her or her siblings he looked even sadder even though he was smiling slightly.

She knew who the on man was. She had seen him in her fathers room on night. He had pretty hair, it was long and he had purple eyes. He even smiled at her and bowed to her. He called her "Little Princess". Normally she hated being called that, but he made it sound nice. He had left the room after he had talked to her. She wasn't sure who he was but she liked him.

"Why do you think father won't let anyone in here?" Shalizar asked.

"Someone comes in here." Raberba said looking at her.

"Why do you think that?"

"No dust. The place is clean. Father must let someone come and clean it."

There was a sound at the door. Like a key and the door started to be open. The three children ran for cover and hid behind the platform. Three sets of eyes were glued to the door to see who would come in. First came a girl, no not a girl it was the man Jade had seen before. And then came in another man with messy brown hair and cobalt blue eyes.

"Baka, you left the door unlocked." The second man said.

"No I didn't Heero. I always lock the door." The first said walking further into the room.

"Why are we here?"

"Because the Sultan wants the room to be dust free."

"Isn't that's why you, Hilde and Dorothy came here yesterday?"

"Yes, but I forgot to do something."

"Like what?"

The man sighed. "I forgot to put one of Aja's books back."

"Duo what were you doing with one of the Sultana's books?"

"I was reading. Aja liked it when I read. I keep reading for her. But yesterday I forgot to put it back on the shelf."

"We aren't supposed to be able to read, Duo."

"I know Heero but Aja made it a rule for me to read at least once a week. I'd hate to disobey her."

"You shouldn't worry about that. Not now at least."

Duo turned to Heero. He looked at him. If it wasn't for the fact they were the Sultan's property he would ravish Heero's body. But Heero's words hurt him. "You shouldn't talk like that. Besides, I promised her I'd read to her children"

"You know you'll never be allowed. Unless of course you were the Sultan's wife or in your case husband." There was anger behind his words. He really didn't like the thought of Duo leaving him. Even he couldn't have him in body, he wanted him in soul.

Behind the platform three children listen carefully. At the sound of their mother's name they listen even more. They wonder who these strange men were. And why their mother wanted one of them to read to them. And why that same person was trying to be their new mother.

"I don't want to be Sultana." Duo said. "It's just Aja wanted someone to read to them."

"And you think you should be it?"

"She asked." Duo whispered. "She was my friend and I would do anything for her."

"You loved her." It was a statement. One that was hurting Heero.

"Yes, but as a sister. She had her true love."

"Hn. We should go." Heero turned towards the door.

"Yeah." Duo placed the book back where it belonged. And walked after Heero.

After the two men had left the three children came out of hiding. They sat down on pillows. Jade happily picked up a piece of silk and pulled it around her. The twins sat next to each other in silence.

"They knew mother." Shalizar said.

"Yes and they know father." Raberba said.

"The long haired one know father very well. I saw him in Father's room one night." Jade said.

"What?" Shalizar asked.

"I saw him in father's room."

"What were you doing in father's room?" Raberba asked.

"I had a bad dream." Jade looked down and fiddled with the silk.

"What happened?" Shalizar asked.

"Father had him leave. He bowed to me and told me good night. He called me 'Little Princess'." Jade smiled.

"You hate that name." Raberba frowned.

"I know. But it sounded nice from him."

"I thought I heard some one in here." The three children turn to see Duo standing in the door way. Behind him was Heero who was on his knees. Duo dropped to his knees as well. "You shouldn't be in here." He said, his eyes never looking at the children but at their feet.

"You can come here." Raberba said.

"Yes my prince I can, by order of the Sultan."

"Well I'm his son, I can be here too." Raberba crossed his arms.

"The Sultan said only I and a few others may be here."

"This was our mother's room. We can come here if we want." He walked up to Duo and looked down at him. "I don't even know who YOU are?" He walked out past Heero and down the hallway. Shalizar following him.

Jade stepped up to Duo. "Why do you not look at us?" She cocked her head to the side.

"I am not allowed to Little Princess."

"Oh." She leaned in close to his ear and then whispered. "Were you really friends with my mommy?"

Duo closed his eyes. "Yes, Little Princess."

"One day will you tell me about her?"

"Of course Little Princess."

Jade kissed him on the check and ran after her siblings.

TBC...

So what do you all think? I promise the kids don't have that much to do with the story.
