Shinii's POV
I have no idea where I'm at. There are no trees, no houses, nothing. It doesn't look like the immortal realm either. It's an endless void. Fog covers the ground or at least whatever it is I'm walking on. My steps echo no matter how slowly I walk.
"Where are we?" I turn to see Heero standing not far from me.
"I don't know." I shake my head. I don't like not knowing where I am.
Heero raises an eyebrow. "You didn't bring us here?"
"No, I was petting Wufei and listening to Auzii and Fawlner talk."
"Hn."
"Shinigami!" Heero and I turn towards the voice. It sounded like a little girl. Actually it sounded a lot like Future. "Shinigami!" A little girl that looks almost like Future runs in front of us. Her hair looks like Past's, the white hairs streaming through the ponytail.
Then another shows up and I believe it is Future. "Shinigami, mommy said to come back. It's time to learn."
The first girl turns to the second. "Present, I get the feeling we won't find him." My eyes widen. Present is not a little girl. In mortal terms, she looks about thirty.
"Present, Past?" Another little girl appears. "Did you find him?" The first two shake their heads no. "Well let's go tell mommy."
"Don't worry about it, dears." Another person appears. I'm awestruck. She's tall and lean and her hair falls down around her in waves of chestnut. Just like my master's. However her eyes are not violet like his or the Fates; they're blood red and black. Just like mine.
"But he should be here, mommy." Future said. "I saw it."
The woman chuckles. "Your ability to see things will not always work on family. Your brother is with your father."
I feel something tug on my skirt. I turn and look down expecting a demon but instead seeing a smaller version of my master. "Hi!" He says. "Are you family? You look like mama and papa. Um... well sort of. I've never seen anyone but mama with your eyes. And you have papa's hair. You look like family. Hey! Who is he?" He points to Heero. I look at Heero; he looks as shocked as I feel. I would like nothing better than to have Heero wrap his arms around me so I could hide.
The chibi version of my master goes over to Heero. "Are you family? You don't look like family. Except maybe her." He points at me. I blink.
"Shinigami?" A male voice asks.
The mini version turns towards the voice. "Look what I found papa! Are they family? She looks like family." I look up and try very hard not to gasp. In front of me is a man, he's tall and well built. He looks almost perfect. His eyes are violet. And his hair, like mine, has a few strands of white in front and the rest of his bangs are red. The rest of his hair is purple and black. It is short and combed neatly. His kind face looks at me.
"Hello little one." He steps forward. I however back away and quickly make my way to Heero. I stand behind him and clutch at his shirt. He tenses at first and then relaxes.
"What's wrong with her?" Shinigami asks. I can't believe I just called him that.
"Hn." Is what Heero says.
"Come to think of it, what's wrong with YOU?" I get the feeling he was talking to Heero. Chibi Shinigami pokes me a little. I move around Heero's body until I run into his arm. He lifts it thankfully and I move around to the front.
"Shinigami, don't poke." The man says. "Little one why are you here?" I say nothing and bury my face deeper into Heero's shirt.
"Come on now, we won't hurt you." The woman says, her voice is soft and soothing. "How did you get here?"
"She doesn't know." Heero answers.
"Aa I see." The man says. "Shinii, come now, we won't hurt you." I tense, he knows my name. How can he know my name?
"We are not mad either. You didn't bring yourself here." The woman says.
"Who are you?" Heero finally asked. Somehow I'm relieved he asked.
"I am the Mother Goddess." The woman says. "Or for Shinii, I'm the Grandmother Goddess." I roll my eyes; talk about a bad pun. Thank goodness my face is buried in Heero's shirt. "Oh come on now it wasn't that bad of a pun." I stiffen; she could have heard my thoughts. "Of course I did dear." I whimper.
The man clears his throat. "I am Father Time. These are our children, the Three Fates and Shinigami. But you already knew that."
"How did we get here?" Heero asks.
"I would say our daughters sent you." Father Time said.
I feel a hand brush my arm. "Come on angel, no one's mad." Mother Goddess says. Her voice is soft; it's a lot Kei's had been when I'd get upset. I turn to look at her. Her hand brushes my cheek. "You're so confused and lost aren't you?" I nod; she pulls me into her arms and hugs me. Her hand rubs circles on my back. "It's all right, everything will be fine."
"Girls, son, leave us be for awhile." Father time says. I open my eyes and see the Fates walk away and then I see my master in front of me. "Shinigami go on."
Shinigami looks at me. "Everything will be fine, angel." He turns and runs after his sisters.
"Now my dearest granddaughter, what say we have a talk." The next thing I know we are all sitting down on soft fluffy clouds. I look over at Heero and his eyes are slightly widened. Guess he never thought he'd be sitting on a cloud.
"Let's see, I bet you're upset about not being fully immortal." Father Time says. "Am I right?" I don't look at him. "I'll take that as a yes."
"Shinii, it's not that bad." Mother Goddess says.
"Half mortals cannot take the soul of an immortal." I state.
"Oh well, if that's all, you're not half-mortal." Father Time says.
"Nani?" I look up at him. "But my master said I was born and Kei is one of my parents."
Mother Goddess chuckles. "Kei and Heero are not full mortals."
"Nani?" Heero asks.
"You're not a full mortal. Why do you think the Immortal Court wanted Shinigami to take your soul? They had already sent numerous angels and demons of death and not one could take your soul."
"I'm not Kei." Heero grounds out.
"Yes you are. You just don't like the idea of not remembering."
"Um... so which immortal is his father?" Okay so my curiosity has gotten the better of me.
"Life." Father Time says.
I blink. "Um... I'm not familiar with him."
"Do you know who the most powerful gods are?"
"Um Shinigami and the Fates?"
Father Time chuckles. "I suppose no one talks about us any more. Mother Goddess, Life and myself are the most powerful. Now your grandmother and I fell in love. Life was happy for us. He even fell in love with a mortal. I don't know her real name; Life only called her his Koi. She had a baby boy they named Kei." I look over at Heero. "We had our children the Three Fates. One day Life came to us and asked if we would have another child. His Koi had been hurt and was living in pain. He wanted someone to be able to relieve people of their lives.
"At first we were against it. Then we saw his koi and felt the pain she was enduring. So we had another child. Shinigami was much more than we thought he would be. So much more powerful than his sisters. So when he was the age you saw him just now, we took him down and let him meet Life and his Koi. He even met Kei. We let the boys play a bit and then Life took his son for a walk."
"We didn't know what Shinigami would do." Mother Goddess continues. "We were never told how to take a soul. But he went and sat next to Life's koi and talked to her. They just talked forever and then she closed her eyes and never woke up.
"When Life returned with Kei, she was gone. Kei, I think, knew Shinigami had taken her soul. But he wasn't upset. The boys didn't meet up until much later. After a certain red dragon was told to convince Shinigami to go to the earth."
"Wait!" I stop them. "You mean Wufei knows you?"
"Well, he is a red dragon and there have only been two ever born. And we are the ones responsible for that. Black dragons are our cousins. Guess who made sure they had some kids?"
"Life." Heero says.
"Correct. Life knew that if he kept creating, someone would have to take them away. Shinigami became Life's favorite. They worked well together."
"Why doesn't my master remember any of that?" I asked.
"Shinigami always had a big heart. Taking souls would wear him down. But he loved Kei from the moment they first met. After he released Kei's mother he felt bad. He hated himself for bring heartache to Kei. So we took those memories away."
"So did Life do that with Kei?"
"No, Kei knew Shinigami when they met again. Kei had never been upset with Shinigami. But it cursed him in a way. He always sought out boys to love. Which in the immortal realm no one cares. But on earth it's a different story."
"When Shinigami met up with Kei again, Kei had taken to living as far away from people as possible." Father Time says. "It is kind of sad but they were happy. And then they had you, Shinii. The happiest day of their lives. Kei was thrilled to carry and give birth to you. It was only fitting that the son of Life do so. Raising you only brought them more joy."
"There is something I don't understand." I say. "If I'm not fully immortal how is it that I can take a soul of an immortal?"
"Aa... well, Shinigami is quite powerful. He pumped you full of his own power and then unknown to him, you got some of Life's powers flowing through you. It seems to have had an interesting affect on you."
"Any more questions, angel?" Mother Goddess asks.
"Yes, can I call you grandma and grandpa? And if Heero and I are in the past how do you know of what is to come?" They smile at my first question and laugh at my second one.
"Yes, you can call us grandma and grandpa." Mother Goddess says.
"And as per your second question. Your grandma and I made other gods and demons and what not. They finally decided to form a court. After awhile they forgot about us and how powerful we were. We weren't upset; it was nice to know they could take care of themselves. So we decided to go back to a happier time and merge with ourselves." Father Time explains.
"But we wanted to make sure our children were all right. So we kept peeking in on them. And on our granddaughter."
"So now what?"
"Now you need to go the immortal realm and kick Abith's butt." Grandma says. Her eyes glow a soft red. "Or at least kept him put until I can kick his butt. Make my BABY'S life miserable, I don't think so." I smile at her.
"Ah, a mother's love." Grandpa says. "Now Shinii, it'll take us some time to get back so you all have to fight off the enemy until we get there okay?" I nod my head. He sits on his knees in front of me. "Take care, my dear." He kisses me on my forehead and then hugs me.
Next my grandma, the Mother Goddess. I can't believe this. It's kind of exciting. She leans down and kisses my check. "Take good care of your fathers. Both of them and yourself." She then turns to look at Heero. "Now you young man take good care of my baby and granddaughter. And when you get to the immortal realm don't worry about anything. You will be able to defend yourself." She then walks over to him and kisses his cheek. "Now you both need to go."
I open my eyes with a start. Auzii, Fawlner and Wufei are all staring at me with worried looks on their faces. And let me tell a worried looking dragon is very rare. I quickly scan the room and remember that my master. Pardon my daddy and papa are upstairs.
I jump off the couch and head for the stairs. I don't know why but I have this need to hug both my fathers. And why is it that after a small explanation I'm fine with everything? Stop in front of their door. I'm nervous and I don't know why. Should I knock or just walk in?
I decide to walk in. Of course I open the door and run to the bed. Lying there are both my fathers. They look sweet. But I want a hug. So I jump onto the bed. Instantly their eyes open and Heero has a hold of my arm.
"Hi!" I smile big and hope I don't get into too much trouble.
"Shinii! Wha.... what are you doing?" My daddy asks.
"I need a hug." His eyes soften and he smiles. He opens his arms and I climb over poor Heero and I wrap my arms around my daddy.
"We need to talk you know." He says softly.
"You're my daddy and Heero's my papa." I mumble. I love the feel of hugs. I feel so safe in one of my father's arms. And right now I feel as if nothing could go wrong.
"Shinii what brought this on?"
"Grandma and grandpa." I sigh and close my eyes.
Duo's POV
I blink at her simple statement. Her grandparents? Just a few hours ago she was having a problems with the idea of truly being born and Kei being her father. And now she's taking about grandparents. Not that I don't want her to meet them. I mean I took a great deal of time making sure she had her grandma's eyes and her grandpa's hair. Of course my wings and Kei's heart. Not to mention Kei's glare. Not that Kei glared that much but Heero sure does.
I look over at Heero. He's looking at Shinii. His eyes have a soften look to them. Kind of like how Kei would look at her. Or how I look at her. I noticed that he has her hand in his. This little act touches my heart.
"Heero?" I whisper I look back to his face.
"Hai?"
"Umm... is there anything you'd like to tell me?"
"Like?"
"Like why all of a sudden your looking at Shinii the same way I do. And why you're not upset she ran in here and jumped on our bed."
"We had a dream."
"A dream?"
"Go to sleep Koi, we'll talk later."
"Heero, I think we should talk now."
Heero places his finger over my lips. An act I knew he'd do. "Shh, you'll wake her." He lays down.
I stare at him for a few seconds and then lay down as well. I place Shinii between us. I then reach to the foot of the bed and grab the spare blanket and drape it over her. I look over at Heero, he's asleep. I wonder what has happened. And why to I get the feeling that Heero and Shinii aren't going to tell me.
