Shinii's POV
I'm sitting in the chair watching everyone. Wufei is in my lap and I can't help but pet him. He doesn't seem to mind much. Well, unless I pause. Then I get tiny claws digging into my leg. Heero is at his laptop and he seems different this morning. Like something happened in the night. While I was sleeping against my will.
Trowa and Quatre are sitting together on the sofa. They keep staring at Wufei. They just aren't use to him in dragon form yet. They don't seem scared, just in shock. My master has yet to make an appearance.
"Would you two stop?" Wufei growls.
"Sorry, Wufei. It's just that you look so different." Quatre looks away.
"Well it's not as if I'm going to bite you. Wait until you go back to normal." Quatre and Trowa look at each other.
I sigh. "Uncle, it's not as if they look that much different."
"You didn't recognize them."
I glare a little. "Whatever. Quatre, I like you better with horns. They look cute. And Trowa... um well looking like a shadow isn't that bad."
I notice my master out of the corner of my eye. He's sneaking up on Heero. He stands behind him and then leans over Heero's shoulder. His braid slips over to rest against Heero's chest. My master rests his arm around Heero. Yes I think something did happen last night. Why does all the good stuff happen when I sleep?
Duo's POV
I sneak up on Heero. Now that all my memories and most of my powers are back it's easier to sneak up on him. I notice Shinii is watching me. She's probably figured out something happened. I lean over Heero's shoulder. I used to do this to Kei too. I would lean over so I could watch him draw. As Duo Maxwell I do this to watch his fingers fly across the keyboard. His hands always amaze me. I take a deep breath of him, something that hasn't changed.
"What are you doing, Heero?" I whisper into his ear. I notice his hands stop.
"Looking for missions." His voice sounds a little distracted. I wonder why?
I hide my smirk. "There are none. I'm sure my sisters are keeping them at bay. We have more pressing matter to deal with."
"We're soldiers."
I sigh and resist the urge to nuzzle his neck. "Yes I know. And I promise we will take care of that. But which should we take care of first?"
"The war."
"Uh huh and have demons and other immortals trying to kill us at the same time. We will lose both fights. If we take care of the immortals and then the war we will have a better chances at winning them both."
He says nothing, he does nothing. Finally he nods yes. But says nothing. I sigh and stand up. I walk over to the couch and flop down. I notice four pairs of eyes on me. They're probably trying to figure out the attitude change.
"Um... Shinigami?" Quatre starts but he doesn't finish.
"Q. just call me Duo. Shinigami sounds so... so formal."
"You got all your memories back!" I find Shinii jumping into my lap. She has a huge smile on her face. Her eyes show relief. I hug her tightly. "So now what do we do?"
"Well now you are going to go get Auzii and Fawlner. We need all the help we can get."
"Who are they?" Trowa asks.
"Friends of ours. They are loyal to my sisters and me. Of whom I will also have to contact."
"Will that be all for our side?" Wufei asks.
I shake my head. "I don't know. The Fates may have others to aid us and so may Auzii and Fawlner. But if not then that's all we got."
"That doesn't sound like a lot." Quatre says.
"Well, first thing we'll do once everyone is together is go see my father."
Shinii tilts her head and gives me a confused look. "Your 'father', Master?"
She slipped up, I know, but to hear her say 'master' to me hurts. I narrow my eyes. "Shinii, how many times to I have to tell you not to call me that? I am your father and you will call me that." She looks away. I can't tell if she's sad or afraid. I sigh deeply. I kiss her head. "I love you, angel. Now can you do me a favor and go get Auzii and Fawlner and bring them here."
"'kay." She gets off my lap and disappears through the wall.
"You shouldn't be so hard on her." I look over at Wufei who's perched on the arm of the couch. "Who knows what she's been told?"
I sigh again. "I know, but it still hurts."
"You said yourself that you didn't know what they have been telling her while you were away." Heero speaks up. I turn and look at him. I can't believe he just said that. Not that I'm mad or anything. I'm impressed really. I smile slightly at him but say nothing.
"You still shouldn't yell at your daughter." Everyone looks to the door. Trowa and Heero draw their guns and aim at the woman in the doorway. She chuckles. "What a greeting." She smiles at me.
"Sister, good to see you!" I stand and walk to her quickly. I give her a big hug. "Don't mind them they're just jumpy."
"I know. I helped plan it that way." She looks at the others. "Do put the guns down. They won't hurt me."
I turn to the others. "Guys, this is one of my sisters, Present. She's one of the three Fates." Trowa, Quatre and Heero look a little shocked. They eyes have gotten a little wider and their mouths are slightly open. Wufei only nods to her. But he knew the Fates before.
"Nice to see you all again." She says. She sits in a chair. "So you sent for the Archangel and High Demon. That is good. Our enemy is getting restless."
"That's not good, sis. We need to get to our parents." I sit down on the couch. Heero sits next to me. "They need their powers back."
"We know, but there is nothing we can do. Their memories have been locked up well." She looks at Heero. "And the mortal has no power outside of his training."
I notice Heero's eyes narrow a bit. "It doesn't matter, I shall protect him."
"Then who shall protect you? Our enemies are after you and your lover."
"I am not his lover." Heero states. The words are like a stake through my heart.
Present smiles sadly. "You break my family's hearts to say that." She stands and walks away. "A word with you brother." I get up and follow her out of the room. I watch her long hair sway back and forth. Like her sisters' it's up in a high ponytail. She wears a long blue dress. "He doesn't love anymore?" It's a question laced with sadness.
"He doesn't wish to admit it. It still doesn't matter. I love him no matter what."
She turns to me. "I know, but if he doesn't come around soon brother. You may lose him." She walks away and through a wall.
I lean against the wall and slide down. Why can't anything go my way? I draw my legs up and lean my head against my knees. It's not fair. Why can't Death have something nice last for a while?
Shinii's POV
I walk into the park and look around. I spot Auzii and Fawlner on the swings. Well okay, Fawlner is pushing Auzii. Odd. Sometimes they remind me of my master and his love. Wonder why.
I walk up to them and smile. "So there you are."
They stop and look at me. "Do you need us, young death?" Auzii says with a smile.
"My master wishes you to come to him. We have a battle to prepare for." They each nod and begin to follow me back to the house.
"Has he regained his memories?" Fawlner asks.
"Yes, all of his memories."
"What of the others?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Guess that's okay for now. I owe the shadow Nanashi some oils. I have yet to find them."
Auzii chuckles. "Are those the ones you threw out?"
"Oh hush, I didn't know any better."
"What are you talking about?"
They both stop and look at me. "Never mind." Auzii says.
"Ask your master." Fawlner says.
I sigh and continue walking. Why me?
