Duo's POV
For once I'm glad to be back in class. Laying in bed all day is not my idea of fun. Well maybe it'd be fun if there was someone else with me. Say someone like, Heero.
Like that'll happen soon. Anyways back to classes. Shinii of course came along too. Again she plays with demonic looking creatures and makes faces at the teachers and students.
Finally lunch comes. Which is good because I'm starved! I sit in the back of the lunchroom and Shinii sits next to me. She looks over my food. I wonder if she's ever eaten before. I'll ask her later. I notice Wufei enter the lunchroom with Quatre and Trowa. They all had the same last class. They get their food and join me at the table. As they're sitting down I see Heero enter the room.
"Duo, I have a question for you." I look over at Quatre. He's sitting right next to Trowa. The two of them are just so cute together.
"What's your question, Q?"
"A couple of days ago you called me 'Val'. And yesterday someone else called me that, too. I was just wondering who Val is?"
I have to keep myself from choking. "Who called you Val?"
I notice Trowa raise an eyebrow but say nothing. "A little girl. She was probably nine or ten years old." I look at Wufei who is looking at me. We both glance to Shinii, who is sitting on the floor trying to hide. "So who is Val?"
"I really don't know, Q. I was just dreaming and the guy in my dream said his name was Val. So when I called you Val I was just repeating." Okay it wasn't a total lie. I had been dreaming and well I really can't tell him the truth.
"Do you know a Val, Wufei?" Trowa looks at Wufei.
"Why do you ask?" Ah yes Wufei's trying to avoid the question. I guess he doesn't want to lie either.
"You seemed surprised to hear the name."
"Aa, Val is a name I haven't heard in a while."
"Where have you heard it before, Wufei?" Quatre asked innocently.
"In an old book I read while studying at home." Wufei covers quickly. Wufei nods to Heero who is just now joining us.
"Who was he?" I want to groan. Quatre acts just like his old self. Full of questions and dieing for information.
"A demon." Quatre gasps, I try not to chuckle and Shinii is laughing at the look on Quatre's face. "An ascended demon. According to the book, Val was a demon who left the darkness and walked into the light. He played tricks on mortals. He usually tricked them into doing good deeds."
"So what happened to him?"
"He was punished for his master's crime." Ouch, that hurt. Thanks a lot Wufei, hit me while I'm down.
"What did his master do?" Good question Quatre, what did I do?
Wufei looks at me. "I can't tell you." Damn you Wufei.
"Why not?"
"Yes, why not, Wufei?" Trowa asks.
"That is something you'll have to figure out for yourself."
"HHHEEEEEERRRRRROOOOOO!!!!!!" All six of us jump and turn to the hideous sound. There at the entrance of the lunchroom is my worst nightmare. Relena Peacecraft. I shudder as she walks towards us.
"A banshee." I look down at Shinii. Right now I don't care if looks weird. She looks up at me. "I thought they all left Earth?" I hear Wufei snicker. Shinii looks over at him. "Nani?"
"Heero, oh I'm so glad to see you again! I thought I'd never find you!" Relena throws her arms around Heero and places herself between Heero and me. The more she wedges herself in the farther I back away, until I'm almost out of my seat.
"Oi! Do you mind? I'd like to eat my food." I glare at Relena who doesn't even hear me.
"Master." I look at Shinii and she points to Relena.
I look up at Wufei and he's looking at the same place Shinii's pointing to. I look and see a small creature hanging onto her back. "A demon. I think one of Dorma's." I look at the demon and it sticks its tongue out at me. Of course now's the time I fall out of my chair.
"Duo!" Okay did my ears just fail me or did Heero sound concerned? "Duo, are you alright?" Heero kneels down next to me.
"Yeah I'm fine." I look around and everyone is looking at me. Relena even has a smug look on her face. It's like she did it on purpose. "I'm out of here." Turn and head for the door. I don't feel like being humiliated.
Shinii's POV
I sit and watch my master leave. I don't know if I should follow or stay. I glare at the demon on the banshee.
The little thing is laughing. I look at Wufei and he stares right at me. This is not a good thing. Looking at Heero I see he's not happy either. He gets up and heads after my master. I decide to follow. Too bad the banshee felt the need to follow. She grabs a hold of Heero's arm and somehow stops him.
"Oh Heero where are you going?" I spot the demon on her, it's laughing.
"To find Duo. Leave me alone." Heero gets out of her hold and walks away. The banshee starts after him again.But I'm not going to allow it. I step up to the demon and pull it off. The banshee stops and looks lost. But I don't care.
"Look, you little demon, I don't care if you are Dorma's creation I am Shinigami's. You keep that banshee away from him or I'll take your soul and rip it to pieces."
I glare at the demon, I'm sure my eyes take on a red glow. All it does is nod its head up and down. We have an understanding. I drop it and walk after Heero.
We stop outside and the outskirts of the campus. We find my master sitting under a tree, knees drawn up to his chest. Heero moves slowly to sit next to him. My master doesn't move. He's either asleep or he doesn't care.
"Master, are you okay?" I sit on the other side of him. No answer.
Duo's POV
"What's going to happen?" I blink and look to my right and see Kei. He's drawing something, a landscape. We're sitting under a tree. "Duo?" I don't know why I don't answer him. "Shinigami? Are you okay?"
I blink and shake my head. "Hn. Yeah I'm fine." I smile at him. "What were you saying?"
"I asked what was going to happen?"
"What do you mean?"
"You said if we continue something will happen. What did you mean?"
"It won't matter until we become lovers."
Kei looks at me. He seems confused and sad at the same time. "I don't understand."
I sigh. "In truth I don't either. I just know that other immortals will do anything to win my favor. Or they want to control me. They can use you against me. Or they'll try to get you to do things for them. Through me of course."
"Why does everyone want your favor?"
"I'm not like them. I'm more powerful. No god is safe from me. I can take their souls and leave them in limbo. Mostly I think they fear me, and so they should."
Kei leaned against my shoulder. "How are you different?"
"Why?"
"I like to hear you talk."
I smile at that. I wonder if Heero likes to hear me talk. "I was born."
"Nani?" Kei sat up and looked at me with wide eyes. I smile at him. "I said I was born. I am a child of Father Time and Mother Goddess. I was given birth to. As was my sisters the Fates. Immortals are not born, they are made. Someone comes along and put stuff together and then an immortal awakens. Do you understand now?"
"I think so. Why do you keep coming here?"
"We are becoming intertwined. You draw me to you. Immortals don't love. Did you know that? They think they do, but they really don't understand it enough to really love."
"Do you love?"
I smile at him again. I reach up and brush his cheek with my hand. "I am made from love."
I open my eyes and stare into red eyes. Shinii's sitting right in front of me watching. I think she may be worried. I look over to my right and Heero's sitting there. I jump. I didn't think he'd come looking for me. He's not looking at me. Nope he's reading.
"You're up." He turns a page of the book.
"Yeah. How long was I asleep for?"
"I found you asleep three hours ago."
"Nani? Three hours? Shit."
"I kept the banshee from following us!" Shinii beams at me. She's so proud of herself. I smile at her. If I could tell her she did good I would. Guess it'll have to wait.
"Hey Heero, you ever draw?"
Heero stops reading and looks at me. "It wasn't in my training."
I notice Shinii frown. I don't think she knows what all has happen to us after we were punished. "Ever think about it?"
"Iie. Why?"
"Just wondering. Bet you'd be good at it." Shinii smiles and sits on my lap. Bet she remembers Kei drawing.
"Why do you say that?"
"I don't know, I just do." We sit there for a while Shinii looking around Heero reading and me watching them both. I wonder if we did this before I got everyone punished.
"Bet you're good with kids too." I say to Heero. Both Heero and Shinii look at me weirdly.
"This is the second time you've mentioned kids." Heero says.
"You still want a little girl?" I notice Shinii's eyes go wide.
"Hai." Shinii looks at Heero. Her face is a mix of joy and surprise. Before I know it she launches herself at Heero and hugs him. I notice him stiffen. It's like he can feel her hugging him. I smile at the scene only I can see.
