Author: Mina Lightstar

Category: Wildly AU, fantasy, shonen-ai

Disclaimer: After several sessions with my therapist, I have come to accept the fact that I do not own GW.

Rating: As a whole, PG-13

Pairings: 2+1/1+2, hints of 4+5/5+4

Warnings: blood, violence, gore, lime, angst

Feedback: Hai! Flame me if you want--if your letter is entertaining, I'll post it in my kitchen ^_^V

Notes: Surnames have been changed to fit the AU setting--because names like "Maxwell" and "Winner" just wouldn't go with the AU atmosphere. As with all of my epics, I have a map of the world drawn, and I follow it, but I do not own a scanner. Perhaps one day I will borrow my friend's, and will post the map up for all to see.

A word of caution before reading, Sword of the Stars is a long fic--over 300 pages in MS Word, to be exact. A few parts are short, but most are as long--if not longer--than your standard one-shot, and a couple even surpass some multi-parts I've read. Thus, I would just like to say that I am not responsible for any cases of blurred vision that comes of people looking at their monitor for too long ^_^;;; With that said, please enjoy the fic ^_^

"The world consists of three realms. The lowest of which is Water, and the middle of which is Earth.
Only the highest realm, the Sky, has denied Man's control.
Yet for he whom the Sword chooses, the Sky is no longer the limit.
The bearer of this medallion is Master of the Skies.
For you, the path to the Stars will open."

Sword of the Stars Prologue

Levin yawned and leaned back against a tree, wiping his blade clean. The other border-guards had all gone to bed, leaving just the sound of crickets and owls filling the air. He would be alone for several hours yet, until his shift was over and someone else would take watch. He concentrated on his blade and settled for a long, pointless night.

It was when he smelled smoke that he realized he'd been dozing. His eyes snapped open and he gasped in surprise. Some of the trees were beginning to burn and more flaming arrows were sailing over the wall.

Levin stood up and shook his head. "W-what is this?" he cried. He raised his voice louder. "Comrades! To arms! We're under attack!"

A few moments later, six other soldiers emerged from the wooden cabin, wearing only shirts and breeches, and wielding their swords.

"What is going on?" one of them cried.

Before Levin could reply, the wooden doors of the border began to shake. "They're trying to come through!"

"Who is?" a soldier shouted. Just then, the doors to the border broke open, and fifteen soldiers appeared. Levin stared at their crests.

"Imperials?! But how? How did they manage to take Norana without us knowing?"

From out of the smoke appeared a tall, armored man. He was wearing a skull mask to hide his face. He laughed at them. "By the time Norana fell, there was no soldier left to carry a message."

"No!" Levin cried. "Not Norana!"

The commander laughed. "And now, Redwood is next. Die, vermin!" At his signal, the Imperials attacked. Levin and his friends did their best to defend the border, but they were outnumbered. It was over quickly.
