The Wedding Plotter Part 1
"I'm not sharing a room with him."
"What, I'm not good enough roommate material for someone of your breeding?" Duo snapped and looked at Quatre. "I'll just sleep on the floor somewhere then, it doesn't matter to me."
"I didn't say that!" Zechs protested.
"Then what the hell are you implying?"
"Nothing! I just don't want to share a room with you."
Duo opened his mouth to retort.
Quatre rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Stop!" He snapped and they turned towards him wide-eyed. "I would really rather not start this weekend out this way," he said in a softer tone and both men looked faintly sheepish.
Good, Quatre thought and looked at Zechs. "Okay, then who are you willing to share a room with?"
"I'd prefer to share with my fiancée," Zechs smiled at Noin who just rolled her eyes.
Duo snorted. "Why not just say that to start with?"
"Fine," Quatre looked at the list in his hands. "So, you share with Noin. Then...Relena and Duo can share?" The question was voiced tentatively as he looked back and forth between the two named. Quatre obviously expected opposition.
It came from an unexpected quarter. "Unacceptable!" Wufei frowned. "Relena needs to have a Preventer with her."
Duo lifted an eyebrow, his voice dropping to a dangerous pitch. "Are you saying I'm not good enough to watch the Princess?" Jeez, if he'd known the weekend was going to be like this, he would've stayed home and just sent a gift.
"I am saying that she is supposed to be under Preventer protection. That's why she was to room with Noin." Wufei glared at Zechs, ignoring Duo's icy expression.
"Duo's fine," Relena said with a smile. "Really. I won't worry for a moment." Duo gave her a grateful look, but Wufei shook his head.
"He's not a Preventer." Wufei looked towards Une. "Maybe you can share with her."
"She's sharing with Dorothy and Mariemeia," Trowa pointed out before Une could speak. "But you're a Preventer. She can share with you."
Wufei looked like he'd swallowed his tongue. Duo looked amused.
"That's fine too," Relena said when Wufei didn't immediately object. She gave Quatre an apologetic look.
"If that's really okay with you?" He asked and she nodded. "Okay then," he said and looked back at his list. "Um... so Zechs with Noin, Dorothy and Une, Wufei and Relena, that leaves..." He looked towards the man standing by the door. "Do you have any objections to rooming with Duo?"
Heero smiled faintly. "None come to mind."
"I'm beginning to get a complex," Duo muttered and Dorothy patted his shoulder.
"All right then. I'm afraid the house is filled to the brim with my sisters and their families, so I made sure to have the cottages made ready for you. Go and settle in, and come back here for the rehearsal at five."
He handed a key to each set. "Zechs, you and Noin are in the one closest to the house on the left, Doro- you and Une are the closest one on the right. Wufei- take Relena to the farthest on the right, Heero- you and Duo- farthest on the left. All good?"
As his guests gathered up their bags and headed out the front door, Quatre noticed his lover smirking behind his bang. Quatre shook his head, but Trowa only grinned.
"Well, that went very well," Trowa said when the door finally closed. "Just like you planned."
"I told you that would happen," Quatre laughed back. "If I'd put Duo and Heero together then I know at least one of them would be suspicious of my motives. This way I am totally innocent."
"Innocent?" Trowa lifted an eyebrow and leaned over to steal a kiss. "That's never a word I'd use to describe you." Quatre chuckled. "So, manipulative love of mine, now you have them where you want them- what comes next?"
Quatre just smiled angelically. "They figure out the sleeping arrangements."

Duo dropped his bag by the closet and surveyed the tiny one-room cottage. It was bigger than his apartment, but the set up made it feel small and cozy. He glanced at Heero over his shoulder. Damn... he'd wanted to spend some time with Heero this weekend, but room with him? That was more than he had anticipated...
He looked at the one bed and wondered what the hell Quatre was thinking. He knew the house was full, but... well, maybe Quatre hadn't been thinking.
Though that didn't sound right either... if he'd been Heero's roommate to start with he'd almost suspect Quatre of plotting something...
"I'm thinking I should feel grateful Zechs didn't want to room with me," he said out loud. "In this small of a space I'd have slit his throat before tomorrow."
Heero looked amused. "Should I sleep with an eye open?"
Duo shook his head. "Nah, you're fine. In fact, in order to express my gratitude for wanting to room with me, I'll even let you have the bed."
Heero looked at the couch. "That's not long enough to sleep on."
Duo, frowning, went and laid down on it. He had to scrunch up his legs and a spring poked at his back. "I've done worse." He had- and he was sure Heero had too.
Heero shook his head, turning to look at the bed again. "Don't be silly. The bed is big enough for both of us, we can share."
Duo was immensely grateful that at that moment, Heero had his back to him, because his face suddenly got very warm. "You... uh... sure about that?" He asked and then kicked himself. Heero didn't know after all...
"Sure. We did it back during the war, right? I just have to make sure you can't steal my pillow." Heero chuckled and Duo made a face.
"You'll never let me live that down will you?" Duo got to his feet and went to unpack his bag.
"No, probably not." Heero smiled slightly and then looked around the room again. "Duo- do you think all the cottages are like this? One bed?"
Duo shrugged. "Don't know. Why? Wanna switch?" His eyes widened as he realized what Heero was getting at. "Oh- Wufei and Relena... What do you think they'll do?"
Heero shrugged. "Well, he'll figure something out. He insisted on being the one to share with her after all."
"That bother you?" Duo asked carefully. He knew Heero considered Relena a good friend, but maybe there was more to it...?
"No, should it? If anyone is bothered, it should be her brother, but he's the one that messed things up," Heero smiled. "I daresay he'll deal with it if it bothers him."
Duo laughed, a little relieved. "Yeah right! Wufei was much more concerned about her safety than Zechs was!"
"Wufei is very dedicated." Heero smiled slightly. "Though who knows? That might change after this weekend."

Noin bounced on the bed as Zechs hung up his clothes. "These are cozy, don't you think?"
"Very nice," Zechs replied and grinned at her over his shoulder. "All the more reason to insist on being with you."
"I'm glad you did- though poor Lena's stuck with Chang..."
Zechs shrugged. "It will be good for him."
Noin lifted an eyebrow. "Good for him? Good for him how?"
"Don't look like that," Zechs shook his head. "I don't mean that like you're thinking."
"Oh? And how do you know what I'm thinking?"
He turned and moved towards the bed, smiling. "Because I know you." He joined her, pulling her backwards into the pillows. "Chang is good at giving his fellow female Preventers respect..."
"Once you've proven you can keep up with him." Noin rolled her eyes.
"Exactly. Lena is not a Preventer, but I'll bet you she's got him eating out of her hand by the end of the weekend."
Noin gave him an arch look. "Ah, so all this was for Chang's benefit?"
Zechs laughed as he tugged her closer for a kiss. "Not at all. I admit I was acting out of selfish reasons. I half-expected Une to step in and room with Lena."
Noin shook her head with a smile. "Une has her own selfish reasons for not volunteering."

Dorothy watched as Une sat down before the mirror to smooth her hair. "I have a question," she said after she looked to make sure that Mariemeia was happily involved with her book on the couch.
"Yes?"
"Why didn't you room with Relena?"
Une lifted an eyebrow. "Other than the obvious reason, why would I need to? We're at a wedding of two ex-gundam pilots, the house is filled with Maguanacs and Quatre's sisters, plus the other pilots are here. She can't get much safer than this."
"If that's the case, then why not speak up when Maxwell offered to room with her?"
Une lifted an eyebrow and smiled. "Where would the fun be in that?"
Dorothy laughed. "You've been hanging out with me too long."

Wufei fished for the key, staggering under the weight of Relena's bags. Why had he offered to carry them? And why did she need all this stuff? They were only here for the weekend!
"Let me," Relena said and stuck her hand in his pants pocket to pull the key out. She dug for a moment before she got it free. "Here we go!"
Wufei, feeling slightly uncomfortable for some reason he couldn't name, followed her into the cottage.
"How cute!" Relena said as she shut the door behind him. "It's very cozy."
Too cozy, Wufei thought, looking at the one bed. At least there was a couch. He put Relena's bags on the bed and then moved to dump his bag on the couch. "I'll have to take one of the pillows from the bed." He said as he surveyed his chosen place.
"You don't have to sleep there," Relena said with a frown. "I'm sure we can ask..."
"It's not a problem," Wufei waved a hand in the air as he started to do a small sweep of the room.
Relena eyed the couch and then her roommate. Wufei was a lot longer than the couch... had he even noticed? Should she say something? Maybe it would be better to wait a little- let him discover the problem for himself. That would be the best thing to do.
