For crystal_lilly who asked for Quatre, Trowa and Wufei. This was a little weird... I had actually started a different thing- was halfway finished in fact!- and on the way home today with all the strong winds and dust blowing around in the air- and a radio ad- this scenario popped into my head. My muses are weird.

Ifrits & Angels 1

She could feel the curve of the metal cross digging into the base of her palm. Show no fear, she reminded herself silently, and kept her spine straight. The voices whispered behind her, mocking and jeering, but she did not turn to look at the house. Would they be here soon?

A car pulled up in front of the house and three men stepped out. She sighed in relief- surely here was the promised help?

Her relief faded a little as she studied the three men clad in ecclesiastical black walking towards her. They were so young- why, the blond couldn't be more than twenty- the others maybe a little more! How could they face down the evil in this place?

"Sister Matilda?" The one in front bowed his head slightly towards her, his dark eyes examining her dispassionately. "Are you the one that summoned us?"

"I did call for help-" she started, "but- I'm not sure the situation was explained clearly-"

"This place is possessed by spirits- ones that have so far thwarted every attempted made to exorcise them." The man's mouth lifted slightly at the corners. "I assure you, we were throughly briefed."

"Wufei," said one of the other young men, in a soft tone, "I'm sure the good sister could tell us more." He pushed his brown hair out of his eyes and smiled at her. "We know all too well how some things get overlooked in the retelling."

Glancing uneasily over her shoulder at the now-silent house behind her, the Sister thawed a little. They were young, but in this field- maybe being young was an advantage? "From what we've been able to discover, this property has always had more than a little supernatural activity. When this house was built- a hundred years ago- the activity increased. The builder tried to sell the house, but no one would purchase it. He left it to his children, who also tried to sell it- and finally, two years ago- they gifted it to the church."

"What sort of activity?" The one called Wufei asked.

"Voices mostly." She suppressed a shiver. "They whisper- all the time.... some people have gone mad listening to them... one even killed himself..." She stopped, biting her lip. She sounded like something out of a bad horror film. How could she convey the terror the voices aroused in their listeners...?

The brown haired young man tilted his head to the side, his green eyes narrowing. "I don't hear them now."

"They stopped just as you arrived," she said and frowned a little. Would they believe her?

But instead of questioning her further, both of them turned to the blond. "Quatre?"

The young man smiled, a bright joyous smile. "They know I'm here. Do you want me to deal with them, Trowa?"

"In a moment," the brown haired man replied. "Wufei?"

"Of course," Wufei smiled and cupped his palm. Sister Matilda felt her jaw drop open as a small glowing globe appeared in his hand. "A gateway," he said and handed it carefully to Trowa.

Mages, she realized. These young men are mages. The rumors are true...

The globe grew a little more. "Enough?" Trowa asked, and the blond nodded.

"That will do." He turned his cheerful smile onto Sister Matilda. "Would you mind waiting by the car with Wufei? I wouldn't want to hurt you."

She nodded, too surprised to speak, and moved down the walk. Wufei joined her by the car, leaning on the cooling hood.

"What are they going to do?" She asked as she watched the two men in front of the house. They were talking softly, heads bent close, the golden orb casting a soft glow over their faces.

"They are going to invite the spirits to leave."

"What if they don't want to leave?"

Wufei's lips quirked into a smile. "Quatre can be very persuasive."

Her lips parted to ask another question, but instead she gasped in surprise when Quatre leaned up and brushed a kiss over Trowa's mouth. "Oh-" came out instead.

"They are very unconventional," Wufei said, his voice even.

"And they aren't- they don't get in trouble-?"

"Not with the results they get. Watch."

Trowa stepped back, holding the glowing orb over his head. Quatre shouted something in a tongue she didn't recognize and the house shook.

"So much for the polite invitation," Wufei sighed.

Trowa stayed where he was, but Quatre headed for the house. "He's not going alone...?"

Wufei made a noise that sounded like a muffled chuckle. "He'll be fine."

Before she could protest, Quatre had reached the front door and turned back slightly to say something to Trowa. His face was no longer smiling and cheerful...

Now it was terrible... and beautiful... and frightening...

He turned to go inside the house and she caught a glimpse of glowing fiery wings...

"An angel," she murmured and Wufei shook his head.

"No, not an angel," he said and took hold of her arm. "Hold on to me."

The house started to shake again, and a warm wind had sprung up, smelling of dust and heat and sand.... It made the trees tremble and forced her to cling to the man beside her.

A darkness rose up from the house and rushed towards the golden orb in Trowa's hands.

The wind ceased, and Quatre came back out of the house, smiling and serene, adjusting his collar.

"Finished!" He called and joined them by the car, Trowa a pace behind him. "You shouldn't have any more trouble now, Little Sister."

She very nearly remonstrated with him- she had to be nearly forty years older than he was- but then he looked her in the eyes- and she realized that he was indeed older. Much much older.

"Thank you," she said instead and watched the three of them climb into the car before walking up the steps of the now silent house.
