The fan in his office was broken again. Wufei carefully stacked the papers he needed to grade into his briefcase and decided to head home for the rest of the day. He didn't have any late afternoon classes, and besides, home had air conditioning.

The subway was packed, filled with red-faced people, sweltering in the heat. As Wufei reached the ticket gate all the lights flickered.

"Oh hell no," he told himself and reversed his direction. Sure, the lights were still on and there were backup generators and things, but with his luck... better to walk or pay for a cab. Before he could decide, his cell phone rang.

Glancing at the number, he made a faint sound of surprise. "Why are you calling?" He said into the phone and heard a ripple of laughter in reply.

"Why am I calling? Is that how you talk to your sweetheart when he finally gets back after being gone for months?"

Wufei snorted. "You're home?"

"Just got in this morning. I went to your office, but you weren't there- unsurprising since it felt like the tenth circle of hell in there. Where are you?"

"By the station- I was headed home."

"Are you already inside?"

"No, outside. Looks like the power is getting cranky."

"Then I will come get you. Be right there." Wufei closed his phone with a snap and sighed, his lips curving in a fond smile despite himself. He was glad Zechs was back. Right after the holidays, Zechs had left on an extended business trip that had taken him around the colonies. Wufei had been surprised by how much he'd missed the bastard.

Not that he should admit it. Apparently spending one night in Zechs' bed made the man a little too sure of himself. Sweetheart? Really?

When Zechs pulled up to the curb beside him, Wufei slid into the car, pausing just a moment to appreciate the blast of cooled air. Just standing on the sidewalk for a few minutes made him feel like a fried egg.

Zechs smiled at him for a moment before pulling the car away from the curb. "Forgive me for not greeting you properly but you look like you're melting. The sooner we get you someplace cooler, the better."

Wufei wanted to make a biting comment in return, but nothing came to mind. Not when Zechs was here, beside him, looking decidedly cool and beautiful... He simply lifted an eyebrow and remained silent.

Zechs was, as ever, undaunted by Wufei's silence. He talked about his trip, talked about the people he met, talked about how he wished that the planet had climate control like the colonies. Some of the things were things he'd already told Wufei on the few times they'd managed to catch each other on the phone, other things were from the constant emails that he'd sent, some were completely new. Wufei let the words wash over him, simply enjoying being able to listen to Zechs in person, to have the man beside him again.

"You're smiling," Zechs said as they pulled into the parking garage, "and you haven't yet complained that I took you to my home, not yours. You must be happy to see me."

"Your air conditioning is probably better than mine," Wufei said as they got out of the car.

Zechs laughed as he pressed the button for the elevator. "You always do say things to decrease my ego, don't you?"

"Can anything decrease your ego?" Wufei asked idly as they stepped into the empty elevator. As the doors closed, he found himself pressed up against the wall. He opened his lips under Zechs' onslaught, closed his eyes to savor the taste and feel of the other man.

"You can," Zechs murmured against his mouth. "You do. Did you miss me at all?"

"Of course I did, idiot." It was Wufei's turn to initiate the kiss, holding it until the soft chime of the elevator told him that they'd reached the right floor.

Once inside the apartment, Zechs divested him of briefcase, shoes and suit coat before taking his elbow and leading him towards the kitchen. Wufei was a little surprised at the location- but he followed along, accepting the bottle of water that Zechs pulled out of the fridge for him.

"I had a project done while I was gone," Zechs told him with a smile. "Let's go see how it turned out."

The project was an atrium, lined with grass and plants, the air cool and moisture heavy. A small piece of heaven surrounded by metal and steel.

Wufei took a deep breath, surrounded by the plants, the grass soft under his stocking feet. "It's beautiful."

Zechs smiled at him. "Yes. I hoped it would turn out well- and yet, now that I'm standing here in it- instead of appreciating how wonderful it is- I just want to push you down on the grass."

Wufei laughed out loud. Sure, he knew he shouldn't encourage Zechs, but it had been months after all... Carefully placing his water bottle down in a safe place, he opened his arms and-

"Well, what are you waiting for?"
