For Duohiro

Drabble 55

It was freezing, Duo thought as he squirmed deeper into his sleeping bag, wishing that he'd brought his heavy coat instead of his lighter jacket. As it was, he'd already piled on all of his extra shirts and socks that he could manage. This camping trip was not going the way he'd imagined.

It wasn't that he hadn't known it would be cold- of course he had- but he hadn't thought he'd be alone. He squirmed again, trying to get comfortable. The air mattress and his sleeping bag were soft enough- but way too big for just him. He wasn't used to all the space- and the cold was really beginning to annoy him.

A soft crunching sound made him reach for his flashlight- the weight of it in his hand felt good. Who was checking up on him? If it was Quatre, Duo was going to give him a piece of his mind... or maybe he'd just chuck the flashlight at his friend's head-

There was a soft tapping on the frame- the old code- and Duo put the flashlight down, reaching for the door zipper.

"Heero?" He said, just as softly, letting his partner in. "You aren't-"

Heero's fingers brushed over his lips, silencing the rest of the sentence. Duo kissed Heero's fingertips lightly in response- he'd stay quiet. The last thing he wanted was Quatre somehow overhearing them and making Heero go back to his own tent. Quatre had been very insistent that they have separate sleeping spaces- something about being traditional.

As if they had ever been traditional!

A heavy weight fell over him, warm and comforting, and Heero zipped the tent closed before sliding into the sleeping bag beside Duo. Curling up into the warmth of the blanket Heero had brought- and into Heero's arms- Duo finally began to feel less like an icicle.

Heero put his lips to Duo's ear, a near soundless whisper: "Thanks for letting me in- my tent was sliding down the hill."

"I was freezing. I'm glad you're here." Duo replied the same way.

"It's not very traditional-" Heero teased softly and Duo elbowed him gently in the ribs.

"Don't care. Rather have you here- this way you can't run away before tomorrow." For a moment, Duo couldn't breathe- Heero had tightened his arms just a bit too much.

"I wouldn't do that," he whispered back and his embrace lightened. Tucking Duo closer, pulling the blanket more firmly around them, he continued: "You're freezing. Should we go to the car? Turn on the heater?"

Duo laughed soundlessly and leaned closer, letting his lips caress Heero's ear: "You could make me warmer..."

"What about-"

"If he shows up, I'll toss the flashlight at his head. He should know we aren't traditional..."
