Cyberficcy Drabble 3
I'm standing in Une's office as she flips through the latest report from J and G. "What is this stealth thing they keep going on about?" She asks, frowning.
"This," I tell her and run the sequence, thankful that they made me a uniform with the same tech. I really don't want to strip every time I 'vanish'.
"What the hell?" She exclaims. "Invisible to the human eye- but - can the cameras see you?"
"I don't think so. J and G are still testing this."
"Take a stroll down to Sally's office. I'm going to see if we can trace you." She's on the phone to building security before I'm even out of her office. I wonder what she has in mind for me.
Slowly I walk down the hallways and staircases to Sally's office. It's hard to dodge everyone on the way- if someone bumps into me, then they'll know I'm here.
Sally's door is slightly open- and Duo is beside her desk.
"It's true then?" She's asking him. "It's really Heero in there?"
"Yes," he smiles in that way that used to make my heart skip a beat. "It's really him in there."
"How do you feel about it? Is it- strange for you?"
I'm wondering if I shouldn't move away from the door- this is a private conversation- not meant to be overheard, but I can't help but linger.
"There are some adjustments to make," Duo chuckles a little and I wonder if he's thinking about last night. "But that's mostly to do with Heero- making him comfortable. He didn't want me to know he's back- he thought I wouldn't want him like he is now."
"And you?" Her voice is soft.
"I just want him, Sally. Any way I can have him. I don't care that he's mostly metal. He's still Heero and that's all that matters to me."
It's funny- he's said that to me often enough, but to hear him tell someone else the same thing, not knowing that I'm listening- I move away from the door and head up to Une's office, dodging people automatically. If I had a heart, I think it would be singing.
