Californication Halloween Drabble 3
Duo stood in the doorway, watching his lover sort through the mail. "Anything yet?" He asked.
"Nothing yet," Heero turned a little in his chair to smile faintly at Duo. "I hope he finds something soon."
"Me too," Duo agreed, mentally damning the detective. His lover was getting too pale and thin as he watched the mail and jumped every time the phone rang. "Since there isn't anything, why don't you come help me?"
"Of course," Heero got to his feet. "What is it you need help with?"
"The kitchen." Duo reached out and caught Heero by a belt loop when he got close enough.
"You need help with the kitchen?"
"In the kitchen," Duo clarified and tugged Heero down the hallway.
"What are you doing in the kitchen? We already had lunch and dinner isn't..."
"I'm snacking," Duo grinned and pushed at the kitchen door. "See?"
Heero surveyed the small heap of apples, caramel and chocolate chips with a smile. "I forgot it was that time of year."
"I thought you might. So- want to help?" Not that Duo was going to give him a choice. Heero needed a distraction.
"Of course."
Duo relaxed a little as they heated caramel and dipped apples. The lines on Heero's forehead had smoothed out, and he'd even managed to make his lover laugh once or twice. After they finished, he persuaded Heero to sit on the couch and watch a movie with him.
It was just an excuse. Heero hadn't been sleeping well lately, even with Duo beside him. It wasn't hard fifteen minutes into the movie, to nudge Heero into sprawling out and resting his head in Duo's lap.
Ten minutes after that, Heero was fast asleep.
Duo sat and ran his fingers through Heero's hair, hoping the phone wouldn't ring. Heero needed this small space of time to rest.
