Strangers in the Night

~Strangers in the night, exchanging glances.
Wondering in the night what were the chances
They'd be sharing love before the night was through.~

AC195

The quintet of Gundam pilots had gathered around a large table for the post-mission debriefing, but Heero Yuy was hearing about half of what was being discussed. His blue sight and his wandering mind were occupied with watching the teenager seated to his left.

Heero studied Duo Maxwell's profile, the way the overhead lights danced on his long chestnut braid as it brushed along his back each time he moved his head. He memorized every angle from high cheekbones curving under the oddest eyes he had ever seen to the way Duo's nose turned up at the end.

Yuy and Maxwell had been assigned as partners for only three missions; however, the free-spirited American who called himself Shinigami had captured Heero's interest the first time they were introduced.

Duo must have felt Heero's eyes as they surveyed every inch of his fine features from his head to as far as his seated position would allow. Too bad the tabletop cut off Heero's viewing of the young man's lower regions clad in tight black trousers that could only be described as excellent.

Slowly Duo turned his head letting his liquid violet eyes rest on Heero's face then offered a sly grin so subtle no one but Wing's master took notice.

At the discreet exchange Heero couldn't help the small smile that flickered across his lips. Yes indeed. he thought to himself, I'll have to discover what makes this Duo Maxwell tick.

~Strangers in the night, two lonely people.
They were strangers in the night.
Little did they know, when they said their first "hello".
Love would be one chance away, a warm inviting glance away.~

After the meeting was adjourned, Heero lagged behind waiting until the pilot known as 02 was alone. Once again Duo let a warm smile grace his lips as he seemed pleased by his fellow rebel's attention.

"Want to go for coffee?" Heero wondered with unaccustomed nervousness.

"Sure" Duo answered simply without hesitation.

This time Heero didn't try to hide his rare smile as they walked to his car.

There wasn't much conversation as 01 and 02 traveled into the city. The streetlights gleaming over Duo's hair and highlighting his expressive eyes made it difficult for the Wing Zero's master to concentrate on his driving.

It was almost ten o'clock when Heero and Duo entered Café Michel and slid into a booth against the far wall facing each other. After the waitress delivered Heero's double espresso, Duo's cinnamon café au lait and four strawberry Danish that were ordered because the sweet treats were Duo's favorite, the Gundam warriors settled into surprisingly relaxed dialogue.

Choosing to guard his past, Duo related an abbreviated version of how he'd met Professor G. and had earned his role as Deathscythe's counterpart.

Likewise, not willing to divulge his own secrets, Heero offered only snippets of information. He'd never been comfortable talking about himself and certainly wasn't ready to share his past with his mentor Odin Lowe or his training with the mad genius Dr. J.

And to further complicate matters, the fact Heero was having a rough time thinking much less talking was unsettling testimony to Duo's unanticipated influence.

Once when Duo leaned forward to retrieve another Danish and his knee brushed, ever-so-lightly, against Heero's leg, the thousand prickles of energy that evoked a warm tingling in Heero's crotch was almost unbearable.

An hour passed by quickly.

More coffee.

More conversation.

"I'm sorry but it's closing time." the waitress announced.

*********

Duo leaned on the car door and paused before slipping into the front passenger seat, "I don't want to go back to the safe house yet." he declared, "Could we ride around for awhile?"

Without questioning the implications or possible problems, Heero was more than happy to comply with Duo's request.

They drove away from the city, leaving behind the noise and restless traffic. Soon moonlight replaced harsh city lights to cast silver shimmers across Duo's hair. As he leaned his head back and closed his eyes with a soft sigh, the moon's glistening rays filtering through the trees radiated on Duo's face and caused his creamy skin to glow.

Unable to resist the tempting image display before him, Heero reached over and lightly rested his hand on Duo's hand. At the unexpected contact Deathscythe's master flinched but made no attempt to pull away, instead, he entwined his fingers and squeezed.

Locking a mesmerizing gaze on Heero, Duo ordered. "Pull over."

Before the car rolled to a complete stop, Duo's mouth was already inches from Heero's moonlight bathed face.

"You had your mind on something else during the debriefing." Duo whispered huskily, "Want to tell me what it was?"

Once more Heero Yuy, the Perfect Soldier, trained to handle any situation, couldn't have put two coherent words together if his life had depended upon the answer.

Appearing quite pleased, Duo let his fingertips trace feathery patterns along the curve of Heero's jaw line to leave behind hot paths all the way down his neck. Finally sliding his thumb under Heero's chin Duo showed no mercy as he captured his lips in a demanding kiss.

Of their own accord, Heero's hands slipped over Duo's shoulder, fingers tangling in his braid as he willingly surrendered to the bruising kiss.

Without pondering right or wrong or caring about the consequences, Heero parted his lips and invited Duo's tongue inside to mingle and share the aftertaste of coffee.

~Something in your touch was so exciting,
Something in your kiss was so enticing,
Something in my heart told me I must have you.~

As the kiss enkindled incredible passion, Duo straddled Heero's legs and began to rock back and forth transferring his heat to his partner's rapidly blooming erection.

The delicious friction produced soft moans just before the anticipative lovers came up for air.

"Duo." Heero panted, barely able to catch his breath, "Are you sure this is what you want?"

Duo leaned back and cupped his hands around Heero's flushed cheeks, "I've wanted to love you since the first time we met," he declared then increased the pressure on Heero's genitals to emphasize the urgency, "I believe you felt the same way, too. That's why you insisted on being assigned as my partner, why you've been so protective in battle."

Heero had known from the start something was different. Duo was the first person who had forced him fight against the cold detachment of his duty and to put another person's welfare before his.

It was the first time he'd dared to believe it was possible to trust someone with his life and, most of all, with his heart and know that trust would not be forsaken.

Now he could identify the source, put a name to the strange but wonderful emotions stirring in his heart and that person was Duo Maxwell.

Heero had never considered this kind of relationship until that moment. Now anything else would seem so out of place. Nothing else would be so perfect, so pure.

"I don't know if I can give you what you need." Heero admitted, afraid he couldn't supply the security Duo deserved.

"We don't have to rush." Duo proclaimed, "We both need to take our time so we can discover all the wondrous mysteries of our love. We should wait until we're ready to take the next step then we can fully share a true union of our bodies, minds and souls."

AC196

~Ever since that night, we've been together,
Lovers at first sight, in love forever.~

"I now confirm and bless this union" the Minister announced as the lovers took each other's hands. "And with the exchange of rings I hereby declare Duo Maxwell and Heero Yuy partners for life."

Eternally together.

One soul forever.

~It turned out so right for strangers in the night.~
