Notes: Duo gets to be all assertive for 2/12 day. ^_^ Plus, I barely ever write them ever getting into bed with each other, so this time, I thought I'd just start out with it. ^o^

Late Night After

It wasn't that Heero didn't remember how he had ended up in Duo's bed. The chain of events was fairly clear in his mind. It was that he didn't understand how it had happened. Or why, perhaps. It had been a rather common Wednesday night. A meeting after work to get a little exercise in. A casual invite out to dinner, a decision to order to-go and eat in once the place proved too crowded. Some of their usual banter and chit-chat, and then... a strange moment, which led to Duo kissing him, and it hadn't quite occurred to him to resist, and then there was some more kissing, which he also didn't resist, and then suddenly a lot more kissing, and, well, that was how he ended up in Duo's bed.

He stared through the darkness at the ceiling while he mulled this over, but the minute shifting of Duo's arm across his midsection brought his attention back to the person who surely was the cause of all this. The light sneaking in between the slats of the mostly-closed blinds showed him primarily a view of Duo's hair, slightly mussed from where Heero had had his hand buried in it, but braid otherwise intact. He didn't need the light to know that Duo's leg was wrapped around his, completing a tangle he wasn't particularly excited about sorting out, but Heero had gotten where he was today by stoically taking on the tasks that no one was particularly excited about doing, and getting them done.

He raised a hand to poke at Duo's bare shoulder. Duo's name came out as a rough whisper, and he frowned, quietly clearing his throat to try again. "Hey, Duo."

Duo's limbs tightened around him briefly before relaxing again.

Satisfied with the knowledge that Duo's guard was lowered sufficiently enough to preclude accidental and reflexive violence, he prodded Duo more firmly. "Duo. Get off."

Duo snuggled more closely into his side, accompanied by a sleepy mumble.

"Duo!" They both jumped a little as the name came out a little snappier than he'd intended. He immediately modulated his tone into something more appropriate, with only an afterthought as to why it was more appropriate. Wasn't he trying to get the man's attention? "Duo... I should get going."

Without moving or even opening his eyes, Duo finally responded. "Why?"

"Because..." Heero paused. He wasn't sure on the why of any of this. He took the first answer that came to mind and offered it up lamely. "It's late."

"Yeah..." Duo muffled a small yawn against Heero's shoulder, which he ended with a few gentle nibbles across Heero's skin. "So you should stay."

The logic in that statement wasn't half bad. Heero attempted another approach. "But..."

Duo interrupted him before he got very far. "If you're trying to avoid the awkward morning-after... you're just moving it up in the schedule. That's all."

True. But if there was no avoiding the awkward morning-after, then they might as well get it over with now. "We... probably shouldn't have done this."

He felt a long, silent sigh ghost over his shoulder. "You're right." But just as he was about to feel justly vindicated by this agreement, Duo continued. "I should have wined and dined you first. Taken you out on a proper date and all that. Was totally planning to... one day. Just... this day happened to come up sooner. Sorry for getting it all out of order."

What little wind Heero had had in his sails snuck away. "Planning... one day?"

"Yeah...." Duo's fingers stroked down his side, not light enough to tickle, but still it managed to send a little shivery tingle across his nerves. "One day."

"Oh. I... didn't notice."

"Yeah. You wouldn't." He kissed the skin within reach of his lips, making it clear just how much fondness was in that simple statement.

Well, that explained Duo's actions, perhaps. But not his own. "I... I think I would have noticed if I... if I felt the same way."

"Would you?"

"I... think so."

"I wouldn't be so sure about that. No offense, Heero, but you're being pretty half-assed about trying to get out of my bed right now."

In truth, he had sort of completely forgotten that that was what he had been trying to do. "Well... you're all tangled up with me."

"It's comfy."

Too true. He tried to get back to his original point with a small push that pretended to be assertive. "Get off."

"Mmm, I'd love to get off again." Duo emphasized this with a soft humping of Heero's leg. "You up for another round?"

"Duo!"

"What?" His tone was relatively innocent, but there wasn't much innocent about the way his hand drifted down to Heero's crotch.

Heero took a careful breath to make sure he could speak steadily before doing so. "Now you're just trying to seduce me."

"You're already in my bed, Heero, and we've already had mind-blowing sex. Seducing isn't necessary after the fact."

"Duo..." Even as the originator of the sound, Heero wasn't certain what its tone implied. It was somewhere between a warning and a sigh of... something.

Duo's hand stilled, then withdrew to its initial position. "Let me wine and dine you, Heero. Well, in our case, maybe it's more like, let me beer and pizza you or something. We can go out, flirt a little during dinner, or maybe a lot... Give you some time to ease into things."

"After the fact?"

"Heh, you can ease into me as many times as you like, babe." His short chuckle transformed into a small cough. "Sorry. Sure. Why not?"

"We work together." There, see, that was a perfectly good argument right there.

"Not really. I mean, we work in the same office, sure, but we don't get partnered too often anymore. And we're not in each other's chain of command. So it's not like we've done anything irredeemably unethical here."

"No, but..." They did still get partnered on occasion, and usually when it happened, it was on something important, something where he wouldn't want to be partnered with anyone else, and vice versa.

"What, you're saying you don't think we can act like professionals?"

"Of course not..."

"So what else have you got?"

A long silence. "We're friends."

"Isn't that a good thing?"

A longer silence. "You... want to date me?"

Duo smiled, knowing Heero couldn't see. "Well, yeah. Yeah, I wanna date you. And... you know. All that."

"I don't date people, Duo."

"I bet you don't have sex with people, either, but I think I just proved otherwise. I'd be happy to prove it again, though." He shifted suggestively.

"Once was enough, thank you."

"Nuh-uh, no way. That would make this a one-night stand, and I don't really do one-night stands, and I know you don't at all do one-night stands... Why would you want to make this a one-night stand?"

"I don't want--"

"Good. Me neither." His hand roamed a bit across Heero's torso before settling on one of his nipples. "Let's un-one-nightify this, shall we?"

"Duo... multiple acts of sex in a single night still constitutes a 'one-night' stand."

"Well, when did you become such an expert on the subject?" Duo pouted, but moved his hand elsewhere. "Guess you'll just have to let me take you out some other night, then. Friday? This weekend? Let me take you out, Heero. I owe you a date. And then let me take you out again, after we're square."

That sounded so nice and equitable... No, no, no, wait, this was a mistake, wasn't it? And he didn't believe in making the same mistake twice. "I... I don't need a relationship," he tried once more, but that sounded a bit feeble even to him.

"You might not need one... but that doesn't mean you can't have one. Besides, it's too late," he continued smugly, tilting his head up a little to nuzzle at Heero's jawline. "We've already started something, and neither of us wants this to be a one-time thing, so the only thing left is to move forward, right?"

"That's not really..."

"Heero," he interrupted, patient and firm. "You still haven't left yet. Still haven't kicked my ass yet. Are totally lying here letting me talk you into this. And you wouldn't be unless...." He let Heero finish that sentence on his own.

"You're still tangled up with me." Heero chose to stick with what he knew for sure.

"It's still comfy. Don't you agree?"

He felt that any answer he gave would be incriminating in some way, so he gave no answer at all.

Duo took the silence for assent. "Okay, so you've got a lot to think about. That's fine. Why don't you sleep on it, and let me know what you think in the morning?"

"...Isn't that essentially giving you exactly what you wanted to begin with?"

"Yeah, that's a nice perk of the plan, isn't it? Stay. Let me coffee and omelet you in the morning. I make a mean omelet." When Heero made a reluctant sound, Duo pulled out the big guns. "I refuse to untangle until the sun rises. You have no choice. You have to stay."

Indeed, he was powerless in the face of such a comfy tangle. He nodded mutely.

Duo kissed him consolingly on the cheek. "Good. Now, it's late, and you know how grumpy I can get when I'm shorted on sleep, so you better give me some good news when I wake up, yes?" He pressed another kiss to Heero's shoulder, then snuggled in tight. "Good night."

Heero blinked before echoing the sentiment somewhat confusedly. He expected to spend a long night in continued contemplation of the ceiling, but the comfy tangle overwhelmed him, and he slept.

He woke to the early-morning wake-up call of Duo's cock strutting its stuff against his hip. As he pondered its merits as an alarm clock, its owner stirred, and somewhere near the climatic end to a lazy good-morning handjob, his thoughts firmed into clear resolution and he gasped out his answer. "I expect more than beer and pizza, Maxwell."

Duo's hand slowed as the words sank in, and then his shoulders shook in quiet laughter. "Okay. Ale? Ale and... uh, ooh, you ever been out to that taco shack by the lake?"

Heero twitched a skeptical eyebrow at him. "Tacos?"

"Hey, these are some damn good tacos! Not like late-night snack-run tacos. Whaddya say?" He rather unfairly stroked his thumb along some rather sensitive nerves.

Heero's eyelids fluttered just a bit, but he responded steadily enough. "Fine. You may ale and taco me."

Duo's grin just about beat out the sunrise. "Awesome." He almost jumped out of bed, except his hand was still holding on to some important pieces of their anatomy. "Ooh, uh, you want me to finish here, or you want me to coffee and omelet you instead?"

Heero leveled an even look at him. "What, you can't manage both?"

Duo was suddenly in his face with a wide smirk. "Wow, you're demanding once you've made up your mind." He leaned in for a good long kiss. "That's kinda hot."

He rose easily to the challenge and managed to do both.

Getting them both to work on time was another challenge altogether.
