Continuation of Watering Hole part 3. There shall be a part 5. -_-

Notes: Today's micropart brought to you by Agents D and E. I am no longer pretending to care who these throwaway characters are.

Additional Notes: Geez, I remember a time when I could actually write an entire fic in one piece. Is it just me or are these parts getting shorter and shorter? It's a slippery slope, I tell ya, starting to post pieces of fics. Your pieces just start getting piece-ier and piece-ier and next thing you know...

Moments of Haven Part 119
Watering Hole Part 4

Shevtsova's class was not without its representatives. Two of the agent-students who had participated in the day's events stood off to the side nursing drinks, observing the interactions of the others. "Ha, someone at headquarters sure has a sense of humor."

"Hm?"

"Putting those two together."

"You think?"

"You don't? Come on, those guys are like night and day."

The older agent thought perhaps the younger needed more experience in taking a man's measure before advancing farther in the organziation. This was the first day they had seen or interacted with the two instructors in any significant way. "They seem to be getting on well enough."

"Yeah, well, Maxwell's laughing at damn near everything Yuy says, but hell if I can tell if Yuy's actually trying to be funny or not. My money's on 'not'. Almost makes me think Maxwell dragged that guy here as a joke or something."

He shook his head. "Haven't any of you ever wondered how a couple of kids like them ended up teaching seminars for the Preventers?"

"Well, yeah, sure, but wondering gets you nowhere, and I'm gonna bet neither of them would ever give us a straight answer, so..." He shrugged. "The people who were in their class speak well of them, and that's all that matters."

"Think about who they are, how they got here. Those two have skills no normal kids should have. Hell, skills most adults don't even have. My theory is, they must have joined up with one of those colony rebel groups. And they saw action. Lots of it. Together. Those two, they've fought together, bled together, watched each other's back. That kind of thing ties people together. And then someone must have recruited them, someone in the same group they were in, or someone they had contact with. And it'd have to be someone with a bit of influence in the Preventers organization to get guys like them in. We don't exactly go around hiring kids all the time. That's the only way I see them being where they are now."

"Hm. Interesting. Yeah, I could go with that. Guess we don't really think all that much about those other resistance cells that sprang up all over the place, what with those Gundams making such a splash, but we've got a lot of agents coming from all sides of the war."

"Hn. Kind of ridiculous, really. You know, I've heard people speculate that the Gundams were all a government conspiracy, that they never really existed."

"What? You kidding me?"

"Yeah, since it's not like we really know all that much about them. We don't know what happened to their machines, and we don't know what happened to the pilots. Don't even have that many people alive that were witness to their attacks firsthand."

"That's..."

"Hey, don't take it up with me. I'm just saying what I've heard. Actually had someone work a case at my branch where one of these conspiracy theorists stumbled on something he shouldn't have. There's some pretty crazy stuff out there."

"Yeah, well, people get to think what they want to think. I heard Lucy say she thinks those two kids should hook up, like she thinks it'd be 'soooooo cute'."

"Maybe she's a spacer, too."

"Nah, she's a woman. What can you do?"
