Flea Market

When Duo said, "What do you mean you've never been to the flea market?" I knew I was in trouble.

From what I'd heard of flea markets, they were dirty and not everything there was exactly legal. Why my first time at the flea market was such a big deal to Duo, I'll never know.

So he dressed me in what he deemed 'Super Saver' clothing, and we headed out.

The place was a total mess. There were booths everywhere, and junk scattered all about. It was also packed, from what I could see while blocking the baking sun with my hand. I was about to change my mind about letting Duo keep me here all day, but he grabbed my hand and dragged me to the first booth.

Duo glanced over it quickly, muttering under his breath. He discerned the first three booths to have nothing of real importance with an air of knowing what he was doing. The fourth caught his eye, but only for a minute before he dragged me to the next.

I was about to ask him what he thought he'd find when a small "Aha," popped out, and he pulled out his wallet, haggling with the man behind the counter.

Three and a quarter credits later, he slipped a small necklace around my neck. I inspected it thoroughly before cocking my head to look at him.

"The stone is nice, but what does the inscription mean?"

"Dum Spiro, Spero? You mean you don't know?"

I shook my head. "I don't speak much Latin outside the sciences."

"As I Breathe, I Hope," he recited softly, looking across the parking lot turned flea market.

I realized that Duo had grabbed my hand when we'd entered the flea market and he hadn't let go yet. I looked down for a minute, wondering how I couldn't have noticed.

"Hey Heero, you want a sno cone?"

He nervously traced my gaze with his eyes, and just as he was about to let go, I said, "Yeah," and tightened my grip, pulling him along. He blinked at me as I dragged him, and I smirked.

All in all, I think I rather like Flea Markets.
