Life With Heero Arc Part 75
"Sore wa... himitsu desu" Part 3

Heero removed his earplugs and tucked them in his pocket while Duo loaded their bowling bags in the trunk. He'd only needed them for the last hour they were at the alley but he'd been very glad to have them during that time. The music and the noise from people talking had been very, very loud. He knew that Duo had used his own earplugs as well.

It had been a fun evening. He'd been a little dubious about the bowling initially; it was very different from anything he'd ever tried before. But that hadn't lasted long; he'd been perfectly willing to try it. The reluctance and complaining were just part of the usual routine whenever Duo introduced him to something new. Way back when they first started to become friends, the reluctance had been real but over time it had just become an expected part of the way that they interacted. A game between the two of them. Him finding something to complain about and Duo coaxing and teasing him into trying something new despite his "reluctance".

Much like the way he'd prolonged his "learning curve" tonight; deliberately putting off the point at which he wouldn't need Duo's assistance to get set up for his next throw. He knew that Duo knew exactly what he was up to. That he was enjoying the fact that the "lessons" gave Duo a perfectly legitimate excuse to touch him. And Duo was enjoying the same thing. So why not make it last?

But once Duo suggested softly that they raise the stakes a bit; that the winner of each game could claim any kind of kiss that he wanted for every strike he'd thrown and a kiss of the loser's choice for every spare... Well, that changed matters slightly. Heero smirked as he climbed into the car. Given the proper motivation, he could master a new skill very quickly.

Heero snickered when Duo climbed in and shot him a mock-glare. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up hot-shot," Duo grumbled. "You could've let me win more than one game after we started counting scores..."

"I could have," Heero agreed. "But why?"

Duo laughed as he backed the car out of its parking space. "Why? Good question... It's not like I don't get the benefits either way..."

Leaning back in his seat, Heero started to relax for the drive home. Until Duo turned in the opposite direction. "Duo? Aren't we heading home now?"

"Nope. It's still not all that late and we don't have to work tomorrow. So I thought maybe we'd make a couple more stops first. You hungry?"

"A little I guess," Heero admitted. It had been a good few hours since they'd had the pizza and they hadn't bothered with snacks at the bowling alley. He'd wondered why Duo hadn't wanted to get anything there.

"Ice cream sound good?"

Heero gave Duo a suspicious look. That tone of voice sounded very mischievous. And ice cream had certain - connotations - to it ever since the day after Hilde's wedding. "Yes..."

"Good."

"What the hell is he up to?" Heero muttered softly. Duo had pulled into the ice cream parlour's parking lot, told him to wait there, and vanished into the building. He'd been expecting that they would both go in and share a sundae or something, not that Duo would leave him in the car with it still running and dash in on his own.

He rolled down his window as Duo came up to his side of the car carrying a cardboard box. "Here, hold this. Don't tip it," Duo warned, handing Heero the box.

Heero gave Duo a suspicious look but took the box and balanced it in one hand while he rolled the window back up. He reached for the lid to see what was inside. Duo climbed back in the car and slapped Heero's fingers. "Don't peek," he ordered sharply.

Shaking his head in amusement, Heero snapped off a salute, "Yes sir. Whatever you say sir."

Duo snickered and said, "Just wait a few minutes, Heero. I've got someplace in mind for us to go eat that."

"Okay," Heero agreed. He watched Duo's face curiously as they pulled back onto the road again. 'He's definitely up to something... I wonder where he plans to go...'

He was surprised when a few minutes later Duo pulled into one of the colony's parks and drove up to an observation point on a hill that overlooked the park. 'He isn't really... Don't tell me this is...' A quick glance around at the other cars in the area confirmed that yes, this was.

"Okay now Heero," Duo said in a very serious tone. "If you're not comfortable even being here, then we can drive on home and share that strawberry sundae you're holding. The box is insulated; it'll last that long. Or we can sit here and just share the sundae. Or..." he shrugged and waved one hand to indicate the other cars. "Or we can share the sundae and do a little making out. It's dark; the car windows are tinted. Everybody else up here is - otherwise occupied - they're not going to be paying any attention to us. The cops don't bother anybody up here till after two in the morning according to Hilde. I think I'm okay with this; if I discover otherwise I'll speak up. The question is what do you want to do?"

'Good question,' Heero thought. He really wasn't sure. It was a typical thing to do on a date, go park someplace and make out. And this was about as private as they could get in "public". And the idea was sort of intriguing...

He met Duo's eyes in the dim glow from the dash. "Share the sundae and see where it leads?" he suggested tentatively.

"Sure," Duo nodded. "Just remember that it's okay to call a halt if you get uncomfortable Heero. This is supposed to be fun for us both, not something either of us has to feel obligated to do."

"Okay," Heero agreed, opening the box to reveal a very large strawberry sundae. And only one spoon. He smirked. Oh yes. This was going to be fun.
