Nocturnal Fright

It was a very nice autumn day, even though it was rather chilly and windy. It was also the first day that Duo started to live all by himself.

A couple of his friends, including his new boyfriend who managed to get a day off, were over since early in the morning to help him move in. They left not too long ago.

The gang had ordered a few pizzas and had a dozen of beers for supper. Now that everybody was gone, there was a whole stack of pizza boxes and empty beer cans all over the place in the living room.

After cleaned up the place a bit, Duo decided to go to bed.

A little after midnight, the American jumped up from his bed all of a sudden. Turning on the lamp on his bedside table, he looked left and right; the windows were closed, along with the navy blue curtains that took him a whole week to choose. Sitting tensely on his bed, he tried to catch any suspicious noise. He was pretty sure that he had heard something prior to his waking up.

He went over to the closet and grabbed the baseball bat inside. Walked to his bedroom door, opened the door noiselessly, with bat in hand.

Carefully checking the apartment, there was nothing out of place. Not even a mouse. Everything was the same as before he went to sleep. Sighing deeply, the long-haired young man strolled back to bed.

About half an hour later, another small noise woke Duo up. Another tour in the apartment; once again, nothing went wrong.

Duo was a total nervous wreck by the time he was done double checking everything in the apartment, again.

Huddled under his thick blanket, he grabbed his cell phone and hit on the speed dial button without thinking.

At the second ring, the call was picked up. "Hello?" a sleepy voice greeted.

"Heero?" It came out a bit panicky.

The sleepiness seemed to clear off right away. "Duo? What is it? What happened?" Heero asked with concern.

Simply hearing his boyfriend's voice over the phone was enough to calm him down considerably. "Nothing... Just can't sleep." Duo really didn't want to worry Heero for nothing.

"You really okay?"

"Uh huh," Duo reassured. "Sorry to wake you up this late."

"Don't worry. I told you that you can call me whenever you want." Duo could clearly hear the soft smile on Heero's face by his tone.

An answering smile was on his own lips now. "I'm letting you back to sleep now okay? Love ya. Sweet dreams."

"You too. G'night." The phone was hung up.

Fifteen minutes later, the door bell was ringing unceasingly. Duo went to the front door, blinking stupidly after he looked through the peephole.

He opened the door - there stood an Asian young man who wore an ankle length trench coat, huffing and puffing, seemingly having just run up the three flights of stairs.

"Heero?"

Duo grabbed hold at his lover's hands and pulled him inside, "What're you doin' here?" he asked after the door was closed.

"What did you expect me to do after getting your panic call at one in the morning?" Heero started to strip off his long coat and draped it on the couch.

It seemed that Heero, who usually was a collect and calm young man, was very worried. So worried that he didn't even bother to change out of his pyjamas before stepping into his car.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Heero gently wrapped Duo into his arms, placing a small kiss at the corner of those upturned lips.

Duo's arms tightened their hold slightly on the Japanese young man's waist. "Yes, I'm sure. Guess I'm just a bit paranoid. I can't believe that you actually drove all the way here in pyjamas just to make sure that I'm okay," Duo said affectionately. "But... what if there are some paparazzi around? You know how they are. This would probably on the news headline by tomorrow if they get wind of this... They'll have a field day that the famous singer Heero Yuy is actually out at night in his pyjamas - that wouldn’t be good for your career..." Duo started to fret.

Heero effectively stopped Duo's rumbling with a deep kiss. Duo immediately relaxed in Heero's arms, welcoming and returning the kiss as fiercely as Heero did.

Still panting after the kiss, Heero stated, "Who cares if they saw me anyways? And it's not like they can see through my trench coat. Stop worrying, okay?" He pressed a gentle kiss on Duo's forehead. "Come on now. Let's go to bed." Heero tugged at Duo, intending to lead him toward the bedroom.

Duo stared at his boyfriend blankly. He didn't expect Heero would stay for the night.

"What? You don't think that I would drive all the way back home to sleep now, do you?" Heero raised an eyebrow pointedly. "Come on." He held his hand out, waiting for Duo's respond.

Smiling softly, Duo took his lover's hand and, following his lead, retreated for the night.
