Kaizoku no Shou Part 2
Duo gazed wistfully over the waves. He had no idea if the Lazarus was taking him closer... or further away from his only family left in the world. Duo shook his head and turned his mind to happier tings... like lunch. "QUATREEEEE!! When is Wufei gonna be done?!"
Living among the sailors gave him a taste for some luxuries... namely regular meals and a bed. Duo shivered at that last idea. The first time Heero had slid beside him into that tiny bed it had terrified him. Duo had been sure the captain would follow through on those innuendos Heero had hinted at on their first meeting.
But already two weeks had passed and nothing had transpired between them at all. Not even a kiss. For some reason he refused to think about, that fact almost annoyed the braided boy.
"Wufei says he'll be done when he is damn well ready to be done! Same as five minutes ago Duo. Why don't you find something to do to keep your mind busy?!" The blonde was looking a bit haggard and Duo felt instantly sorry for bothering him constantly that day.
"If only I had my bag..." Duo longed to lose himself in the stories he'd brought along with him. Faery tales and comedies... mysteries and horror... all preserved in the old tattered volumes he loved. And hadn't seen since the Moonshadow.
"What was that koneko?"
Duo turned and smiled at Heero, not bothering to correct the captain. No matter how many times he asked what that meant... or asked Heero to call him Duo, the boy insisted on calling him that. He only said that it suited him perfectly.
"Just wishing I hadn't lost my bag." He couldn't help but remember what else was in the bag that meant even more than the books. It hurt him so much to think that the sailors on the Moonshadow did eventually get the rosary. "There were so many things within it that were very precious to me." He tried to keep his voice from wavering by biting his lip and looking away.
"But you haven't lost your bag... It's been on the ship the entire time." Heero sounded puzzled as if he hadn't realized Duo had been unaware of the fact.

Heero tried to keep from laughing as Duo's face lit up and the boy began jumping up and down.
"Really??!!"
"Really. I sort of... grabbed it while I grabbed you."
The next thing he knew Heero was being thoroughly glomped by an exuberant Duo. For the first time in two weeks Heero held Duo in his arms while the boy was awake. And he liked it. Too much.
Before he could harden his heart against the boy Duo looked up at him and smiled again. "Can I have it?"
Thousands of hentai answers filled Heero's mind and every single one of them involved himself and this boy. Others also incorporated props and safe words, [1] but he restrained himself [2] and replied with a smooth "Of course."
He led Duo to their shared cabin and reached into his desk... carefully avoiding the drawer that contained some of Duo's more interesting possessions.
He turned the canvas bag over to Duo, who glomped on it as if it contained his life.

Quickly rifling through his pack Duo happily noted the small bundle of cloth at the bottom.
He removed one book and clutched it to his chest while carefully dropping the bag upon the bunk. "Thank you! You have no idea what this means... I had thought I'd lost this!"
Heero nodded and then looked as if he were going to leave. Suddenly he turned and cocked his head. "Why do they mean so much to you?"
~To tell or not to tell...~ With a small sigh Duo carefully placed the book down on the bunk and turned back to Heero. "Because... before I stowed aboard the Moonshadow I lived in an orphanage. It was called the Maxwell orphanage. I was there along with several other kids Sister Helen and nice old priest, Father Maxwell."
Duo smiled at the memories of the only place he'd ever been able to call home.
"We were all rowdy, but I was the worst... a little demon some called me. But Sister just laughed and called me an angel... me an angel!" Duo laughed a little. "We didn't have the facilities to really have an education, the schools were too expensive. Not that any of us would go anyway. But Father Maxwell insisted that, at the very least, we would all know how to read."
"But it couldn't last forever." He swallowed hard against the sudden dryness in his throat. "We were in the poor section of town... conditions were never really that good and kids were always getting sick. But I never did, ya know? I never once got the measles or chicken pox, no matter how many other kids got something I would be fine. Then it got really bad. Kids were coughing up blood! They'd just seem to waste away." Duo stared off into nothing as he spoke. He wasn't seeing the inside of the cabin anymore, he was seeing his friends get sick and die.
"They'd just grow paler and paler, not eating because nothing could be kept down. They were supposed to be quarantined off from the other kids, but it didn't matter. It spread like wild fire until everyone was sick! Everyone! Father and Sister tended the worst all the while they were suffering just as much. I tried to help, but they wouldn't let me!" He broke out of the trance and looked to Heero. "I found out what it was one day... I was scrounging in the square for food when a couple of the aristocrats were walking by... laughing! They were laughing about how the government had found a new way of cleaning up the streets."
Duo clenched his fists. "Pest control they called the plague because it got rid of the vermin. A two dollar shot, easily affordable by anyone, was all it took to avoid an agonizing slow death." The anger he had felt back then was still fresh as he told what had happened. How those self-righteous pigs could ever condone the slaughter of helpless children!
"So the first ting I did was find a distribution center and steal plenty of the antidote." Duo's shoulders shook with mirthless laughter. "But you know what? It was too late. I got there in time to see Sister cough for the last time. I just stayed by their bodies for a long time. Then I gave them a Christian burial, or as much of one as I could."
"I think I wanted to catch the plague. I wandered around the church, and I took these books before the looters could come."
Duo gestured to the worn volume. "These were the books that Father taught us with." He smiled sadly. "When I read them, its as if he is right beside me. I feel warm and safe."
Heero just stood there. Duo looked down, embarrassed at his speech. ~Awww man... he didn't need to hear all that!~
But then Duo felt something soft brush his cheek. He looked up and realized it was Heero's thumb. The older boy took a step closer. And then he took another step until he was so close Duo could smell him.
Heero's face was slowly getting closer, and Duo realized what he was going to do. Rather than push away, Duo tilted his face up to meet the other boy's soft lips.
~*~
Heero was a little surprised to find Duo eager to meet the kiss, but he quickly wrapped his arms around the boy's thin waist and drew him closer. With his left hand still on the small of Duo's back keeping him in place Heero threaded his fingers through Duo's hair.
With only little encouragement Duo's lips parted and Heero lost himself in the taste and feel of the boy in his arms. Heero only barely noticed when Duo's hands tangled into his hair. Slowly Heero moved Duo back toward the bunk, and when they reached it he maneuvered the other boy to sit. Not once did he break the kiss.
He carefully moved the books onto the floor while he began kissing down Duo's neck to the open part of his shirt.
Suddenly Quatre burst through the door. "DUO! Lunch is-" The blonde boy halted abruptly at the two people who looked at him from the bunk... one slightly dazed, the other thoroughly pissed. "Heh heh... BYE!" He fled as quickly as he had entered, leaving the pair alone again. The mood however was completely shattered.
"Go ahead." Heero kissed Duo on the nose and watched as he walked off to eat.
After a few minutes had passed Heero walked onto the deck. "QUATRE!!! We're going to have another talk about KNOCKING!!"
~*~
On the other side of the ship, Quatre decided it might be a good idea to stay close to Trowa for a little while longer.
