A Fish Called Duo Part 3

They had been in there for almost an hour. Every so often Quatre would walk out, grab something from his bag, glance at him, giggle, and return to the room.

Heero was feeling more than a little nervous.

It seemed that after her intent matchmaking efforts were through, Relena had lost all interest in the actions of the adults, and had plopped herself in front of the TV. "Junkyard Wars" was on... woe to the unlucky individual who dared interrupt her favorite show.

In an attempt to distract himself, Heero sat on the couch beside Relena. "What are they making?"

"Hovercraft."

"Aa." Knowing better than to try and distract his little sister from the mayhem of recycling scrap metal, Heero sat back to wait.

It must have been ten minutes before Heero's attention was wrenched from the show.

**ahem**

Quatre stood in the doorway grinning like an idiot. "May I present your fiancée, Duo Maxwell."

Duo stepped out of the room, and Heero felt his eyes widen. Duo was a gorgeous man, but he had to admit that he made an absolutely breathtaking woman. In a trance, Heero got up from the couch and walked over in front of the blushing man.

A simple white dress and shoes complimented Duo's sleek figure perfectly. It was so simply elegant that no gaudy makeup or jewelry was necessary. Duo's hair was out of its braid and flowed around his body like water. As he took in Duo's amazing transformation, Heero realized that he should probably close his mouth now.

Relena took the opportunity to walk all the way around Duo before flinging her arms around Duo's waist, proclaiming, "You're even prettier now than you were as a mermaid!!"

Duo knelt and hugged Relena back, murmuring a "Thank you." before taking a few steps toward Heero who was still speechless. He slowly twirled before smiling. "Well?"

Heero couldn't help but devour Duo with his eyes. He was a vision! "You... you look amazing." Was that his voice? He couldn't recognize that deep sound as being his own.

Duo blushed a bit and smiled a bit wider. "So you think that we'll be able to pull this off?"

What Heero was thinking was this, ~As long as I don't pull those clothes off of you in front of the Social Worker there'll be no problem...~ What he said was this, "There'll be no problem... as long as you can stand to live with us for a few days."

Laughing a bit, Duo walked over to Relena and scooped the giggling girl into his arms and twirled her around a bit before standing beside Heero once more. "I think I can manage."

Feeling his mouth twitch into a smile, Heero felt hopeful. "Then let's get married."

Pacing in the office, Duo waited anxiously for Father to finish the sermon. He knew that Father would want him to help Heero and Relena, but asking the kindly old priest to marry two men, something a few people in the church still frowned upon, might be asking a bit much.

Sitting in the comfortable old chair in front of Father Maxwell's desk, Duo closed his eyes and pictured Heero... beautiful blue eyes, wild hair and kind smile... top that off with a great body, and he was the kind of man Duo had been looking for all his life! To be marrying him... even if it was temporary, gave Duo shivers to think about it too much.

"Duo! My boy, how are you?" Father Maxwell bustled into the office and returned Duo's enthusiastic hug.

"I'm great Father!" Duo sat in the chair.

"What brings you back here? Just to visit?"

Duo sighed. "No, Father... I have a favor to ask of you."

Heero sipped his coffee and smiled. "Trowa... I've found my wife."

The green eyed lawyer spit out his coffee and stared at him in shock. "WHAT?!"

Smirking silently, Heero held out a napkin, which Trowa took with a displeased grunt. "I should say... I found the perfect man to be my wife..."

"Oooohhh..." Trowa mopped up his mess with an accusing look. "Can he pull it off? Look the part and all that, I mean."

Heero laughed. "You wouldn't be asking that if you saw him. He is... beautiful."

"I see." Trowa's tone took on a new edge of seriousness. "Does he know that you are gay?"

"I think he may have gathered that... especially after Relena told him about the naked boys under my bed."

Trowa snickered. "And is he...? I ask this because you're obviously smitten."

Leaning his head against his hand Heero sighed. "I don't know... He seems willing enough to dress in drag and marry a guy... but he is also an actor or something... not to mention just a really nice guy."

"Heero..." Trowa looked skeptical. "No one is that nice... for a straight guy to dress in drag and marry another guy for the sake of a little girl... that's saint material."

"Don't saints also have to perform a miracle?"

"Heero... if this works it would be a miracle."

"So you're saying...?"

"Give it a try. Sounds to me like this guy is queer as a three dollar bill." Trowa threw down a few dollars for the coffee.

Heero rolled his eyes.

"I'll get the papers in order... you just get ready." Trowa walked out of the café.

Father Maxwell to his credit only blinked a few times. "And you want me to marry you men together?"

It took all his courage to keep Duo from squeezing his eyes closed. As it was, he had his hands clenched into tight fists.

"Duo..." Father Maxwell sighed. "You've been like a son to me these past fifteen years. I'd like to think that I've helped shape you into the man you are today. To be a part of this ceremony... to marry you to this Heero boy..."

Duo held his breath waiting for the Father to continue.

"... would make me very proud." Father Maxwell came from behind his desk and pulled Duo out of his chair, enveloping him in a tight hug. "Helping this man and his sister is a very admirable thing, and I would be honored to be a part of it."

Duo was speechless for a moment- too shocked to even hug back. "Father, you realize that this is... well, sneaky? Possibly illegal?"

Father Maxwell smiled and winked. "Well... I'll say a few Hail Mary's if we get caught. But, I believe that this is a just and good act." Father Maxwell sat back behind his desk. "I think the Lord would approve. I'll be ready whenever you call..."

Duo couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Thank you so much!" He turned to leave.

"Duo... I do expect to meet your young man."

Duo blushed at the implications. "Father, I'll bring him over very soon... but he is not my 'young man'! We're just friends."

"Sure. Tell it to a blind man, perhaps he will believe you. You don't marry your friends... and give me three Hail Mary's for lying to a priest."

Duo shook his head. "Bye Father!" He walked out of the office and church still wondering how he was ever lucky enough to get such a liberal and unconventional Priest.

"I'm gonna have a mommy I'm gonna have a mommy..." Relena sang her little song as she picked up the few toys in her room. She knew that Duo only planned to be her mommy for a short time... but with a little help...

She giggled. It was too easy! Daddy obviously thought that Duo was pretty; he stared a lot when Duo came out in that white dress! Now all she had to do was find out if Duo liked her daddy too.

Getting out her crayons and some paper, Relena began phase one of her plan, make Duo see that he belonged with them. With a few carefully tended sticks of colored wax, Relena created a beautiful masterpiece entitled 'Me, Daddy Heero, and Mommy Duo.'

With a light heart Relena ran to put it on the refrigerator. When she reached the kitchen, she saw Daddy and Duo talking really intensely, not even noticing that she had entered. Backing out of the room, Relena decided to put the picture in the living room instead.
