Summery: Duo dies, and Heero is shocked, to say the least, when he finds an angel lying on his bed. It turns out that Duo has to repent for his sins by doing one good deed after his death, and becomes an angel to do that. But a group formed by the fallen but not dead leaders of OZ is trying to rebuild it, and needs the power of a celestial being. "When I said I'd fallen in love with an angel, I didn't think it would be literally."

Notes: This starts at the end of EW, and let's just say that Duo died in that battle.

Angelic Revolution Prologue
Death Warmed Over~

Duo was warm...

But death wasn't supposed to be warm, argued the sensible part of his brain. He frowned in his half-asleep state, eyebrows knitting in bewilderment and his lips pursed.

Someone was giggling. SomeONES, his fuzzy mind supplied darkly. Shinigami did not appreciate being laughed at. Slowly, he cracked open one eye but shut it immediately when bright light filled it. Ugh, it was stabbing right into his brain.

He groaned and shifted, hand rising automatically to shield that god forsaken light.

"Please hold still," an overly cheerful female voice requested.

Something dripped into his eyes and Duo suddenly could open them.

At first he wasn't sure what they were, as they were so close to his face, but when he finally realized...

He turned scarlet and wriggled nervously.

"A-re?" questioned the same girl, this time in confusion. Duo could almost hear her blink.

"I think he wants you to get your oversized bust out of his face," offered a new voice in the same annoying, cheery tone.

"Ah, gomen ne! I was just trying to put away my glasses."

As he sat up, Duo searched the room with his eyes and cocked his head. It looked like any normal hospital room.

"What is this place?" he asked no one in particular. "I thought I was dead."

A short girl looking to be a few years younger than him nearly knocked him off the something-of-a-bed he was sitting on.

"You are!" she chirped, as if that explained everything. Her enormous lipid green eyes made him slightly uncomfortable as she eyed him up and down. She nodded in approval, flaming red curls bouncing with the movement.

"You know," she said, "you're cute. I wish I could keep you."

Duo twitched.

Then he started. "Heero...where's Heero? Is he all right? Is he ALIVE? He survived the explosion, right? What am I talking about, of course he survived. The dork doesn't even know how to self-destruct right," he demanded in one breath. But in truth, he was deathly afraid. What if Heero finally managed to get himself killed? Then shouldn't he be here? What if his soul was trapped in the In-Between-World like in all those fantasy books he's read?

Both girls blinked at him. Then the one who had ordered her friend's chest out of his face spoke up. She was a little taller, though not by much, and looked very much like the other with the colors reversed--crimson eyes and bright green hair.

"First of all, we don't know who this Heero is, but if you mean the guy with the spiky hair who almost made it to this realm but held a gun to my face and I sent him back, then yes, he's alive." She paused to humph indignantly. "Really, how rude. I think he's the one who's been giving the other DN's trouble."

Duo sweatdropped. It...it certainly sounded like his psychotic lover. He caught himself. "Wait...'giving the other DN's trouble'...?" he echoed. Masaka...

She shrugged. "Yeah, Death Nymphs, like us, sent to receive the souls of those who have died. There have been rumors going on about this really gorgeous but scary guy who has a really bad habit of holding other people at gunpoint. Either that or he just threatens them with a hand grenade. Always says something about 'having a baka to return to'."

One part of Duo was touched, another offended, and the rest was ready to jump off the nearest cliff. //I've heard of 'brushes with Death', but never quite like that!// OK, so that term is not so baseless after all.

"I have to go back," he declared suddenly.

Both girls shook their heads sadly.

"You can't," said the redhead said, solemn for once. "Your friend was able to return because he didn't truly step foot in this realm, where as you did. What's more, his body was always in repairable condition, but yours..." She trailed off and bit her lip.

Duo closed his eyes in an effort to control himself. "I see," he acknowledged, eerily calm. //Gomen, Heero. We had Forever planned, didn't we? Looks like I blew it. Quite literally.//

"But where is he now?" he demanded again. He had to see for himself that Heero was all right.

The redhead shook her head. "We don't know."

"But we can find out," offered the other one. She felt so sorry for this poor boy. The look on his face as he took in the news had been devastating.

Duo relaxed slightly and actually cracked a tiny smile. "Thank you, Ms..."

The girls brightened again and once more reminded the American of 200-watt light bulbs.

"I'm Taiyo[1]!" introduced the redhead.

"I'm Tsuki[2]!" piped the other.

"And we're the D2!" they chorused.

It was obviously a routine they had spent hours practicing.

"The 'Death Duo'," Tsuki clarified with a wink.

Duo sighed. Death was a much...livelier place than he'd originally thought.

'God of Death' suddenly didn't possess such a horrifying ring anymore.

TBC...

*sweatdrops* Um, yeah. Anyways...

It turned out a lot...happier and less depressing than what I had in mind, but oh well!

[1] Taiyo = Sun
[2] Tsuki = Moon (just as a side note, the name Tsukino Usagi--from S Moon--is like a clever play on "The Rabbit of the Moon")
