Worth Fighting For Epilogue

~6 Months Later~
A loud cheer filled the room and Heero found himself blushing as everyone began to chant "Happy Birthday" at him. He looked back at his lover and glared.
"I'll get you for this!" He threaten but Duo waved the threat away as he pulled Heero into the living room of their flat, where family and friends were gathered to celebrate Heero's 21st birthday.
"It was Relena's idea, not mine." Duo protested his innocence as his sister hurried forward, giving them both kisses.
"Yes, but you gave me the key to your home." Relena smiled.
About a month ago, Duo and Heero had finally moved in together, a small little apartment located just a few minute drive from the PHQ. Up until then, Heero had been living back in his old flat with Relena while Duo had remained in the home that Mike had given him.
Duo had taken time off work to sort out his affairs and now 6 months later he was ready to go back, finally feeling refreshed and happy with life. Heero had just graduated from Uni and was ready to hit the world of work, but he had yet to tell Duo what sort of job he had secured himself.
"Just enjoy yourself babe." Relena ordered Heero, grabbing his arm and pulling him away from Duo, so he could meet and greet the many guests that crowded into their small place.
Jane was now six years old and she pushed her way through the crowd until she reached Duo where she grabbed hold of his braid and tugged it hard.
"AW!" Duo spun round looking for his attacker.
Since Solo's death, Duo had replaced the father figure in Jane's life. He didn't mind, his baby sister was a little handful but he loved her.
"Hey Chibi, that hurt!" Duo moaned picking her up and hugging her tightly, her hand curled itself round Duo's neck and latched onto Duo's braid.
"We brought you and Heero a present." Helen greeted her son. In her hand, she held a black leash and a loud bark made everyone in the room fall silent.
"NO!" Heero suddenly yelled. "That dog is not staying here."
Shinny peered round Helen's legs to growl at Heero who was shaking his head at her. Duo put down Jane and took the leash from Helen's hand.
"But she's old Heero and she needs me." Duo pleaded, hugging his dog to him, rubbing his face against her fur.
"She's a fleabag!" Heero moaned.
Duo gapped at Heero. "She's my doggy. Please Heero?" Duo asked, pouting at his boyfriend.
Heero opened his mouth to tell Duo that that look did not work on him but instead he found himself agreeing to Duo's wishes that the dog could live with them.
"But you look after her, you buy her food and you better teach her that my ass is not a chew toy."
The whole room laughed at that, and Heero found himself blushing a red crimson at his own words.
"Come on." Duo roared. "Let's drink, eat and be merry!"
* * *
~A week later~
Duo stretched himself out and yawned. The black dog that slept on his foot whimpered at the movement but stayed asleep and Duo blinked at her.
"Hey, get up you lazy animal." Duo ordered her, gently probing her with his foot. She opened one eyes to glare at him before closing it, rolling off his foot onto Heero's empty side of the bed and fell back asleep. "I swear that you prefer him to me." Duo muttered climbing out of bed.
Despite Heero's protests of having Shinigami stay with them, he was one that got up early every morning and feed Shinigami before he left for work and because he arrived home before Duo did, he ended up taking her for a walk and giving her dinner.
Heero left for work about an hour before Duo got up and Duo was dying to know what Heero was doing but his boyfriend was very secretive and was refuses to even talk about it.
Duo dragged his butt out of bed and hurried to get ready for work.
Duo arrived at the PHQ at just after ten.
"Good morning Sir." The receptionist greeted him and Duo nodded his head back.
"Any messages?"
"Lady Une wants a word with your unit when Mike arrives, she has some new members for you."
"I don't need new members in my unit." Duo protested but the man shrugged.
"I'm just passing on the message Sir."
"Thank you."
Duo grabbed a cup of coffee on his way pass the machine on his way to the elevator and had finished it by the time he arrived on the top floor.
"You heard about Lady Une wanting a word with us?" Trowa asked as Duo floppy down on to his desk.
"Yeah, and I also heard yesterday from Mike that we had a new mission."
Quatre looked up from where he was reading a financial report.
"What's it about?"
"He didn't say. How's life at the manor?" Duo asked.
"Me and Trowa are moving out." Quatre informed him. "We found a nice small house in the outskirts which we can afford. It'll make a nice change. And Wufei... well I'll let him tell you."
"How does it feel to be back at work Duo?" Wufei asked, walking into the office, his own mug of coffee in his right hand while he held a case file in the other.
"It's good, I don't feel so useless any more. Plus it gets me out of the house and away from the nagging partner."
"Nagging? Heero isn't nagging!"
"Well... it's just a phrase."
"And a phrase like that will leave you sleeping on the sofa for a month." Wufei said. "And I would say that Heero would be well into his rights if he did."
"Well, at the moment I'm sharing my bed with him and the dog, any day now I'll wake to find myself on the floor."
A chuckle from the doorway shocked them all.
"Good Day Mike!" Duo greeted.
"Good morning gang. Lady Une wishes to see us, so I suggest you tidy yourselves up and let's get moving."
"HAI!"
* * *
Lady Une stared at the two standing in front of her and she allowed herself to give a very small, ickle smile.
"Are you sure this is what you want?" She doubled checked as her secretary poked her head in around the door.
"The Special Core is here at your request."
"Yes."
"We're sure."
"Very well. Send them in Myelin."
"Yes Madam."
The door opened fully and in strolled the current five members of the SPC, all of which suddenly paused in shock as they recognised the two newest members of their group.
"Preventer Deathscythe, Sandrock, Heavyarms, Shenlong and Commando Peacemillion, I would like to introduce you to Preventer Wing and Preventer Peacecraft. Your new members who will be replacing Preventer Wind and Preventer Epyon."
"Well I'll be damn." Duo whistled. "It's good to have you on board."
Heero smirked at his boyfriend. "You're not surprised?"
"A little bit shocked but I'll get my own back later."
"Promise?"
"Behave yourself Maxwell." Lady Une warned. "I thought these two would be the best as they know you all so well HOWEVER I don't want any personal problems between you lot brought into this building. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes Lady." Mike bowed to her.
"You have your new mission, correct?"
"Right here." Wufei held up the case file.
"Well, I have nothing else to say to you, so get lost."
The SPC along with its two new members left quickly but not before Lady Une heard Duo whisper to Heero.
"How long before I get to nail your small butt in the staff room?"
And to see Heero's reply of smacking Duo on the back of the head and scolding him.
As the door shut behind them, Lady Une let herself smile as she thought of the new team. Quatre had Trowa, Wufei was shyly getting to know Relena and Duo would scary off anyone who even looked at his boyfriend in the wrong way and she was positive that she had seen a gold band on Heero's finger.
"I hope Mike can handle them." She said with a light chuckle. Things, it seemed, were about to become interesting at the Preventers Headquarters.

OMG!!!!!! It's finished and is the longest fic I have ever written! I am sooooooo happy!!!!!!!!
I am thinking about another fic to put into this arc. There are already 4 fics to the arc. 'Holiday From Hell' and this one being the only two completed. I also have 'Finding Myself' to write and a small fic of the relationship between Solo and Odin. I'll see what I get time to do, after all, I still have lots of other fics to finish before I start a brand new one. I'll let you know when I start on a new fic for this arc, which, if I haven't told you before, is called 'Love and Hate', I'm sure you can understand why.
