I will Protect you Forever

When Duo was a child he actually got his name from Solo. Because of his imaginary friend. You'd see him walking down the street oblivious to everything else but talking and gesturing to the empty air beside him. Some how he never got caught by the cops or pimps and when asked why he would and say, "Heero hid me!"

"Who's Heero?" You'd ask and he'd just give you that cheeky grin and say, "He's my best friend."

When Heero was a child he was alone. Always alone as the youngest of his kind he spent lots of time exploring the world around him. Baby dragons weren't as well supervised as human babies. He spent over a century watching the humans scurry about from colony to colony searching for meaning in their pointless and all to short lives when finally he saw something no someone worth watching. A little violet eyed toddler crying as its mother abandoned it on the streets and climbed back into her car and drove away infuriated by some reason by this particular cruelty he vowed to protect the child and did. Appearing in human form he made himself invisible to all but his violet eyed munchkin. And all of a sudden he found himself doing a thousand things dragons didn't do. Laughing, smiling, caring, crying.

His little Duo as he began to call the munchkin was more important to him then anything else. But there are something's even dragons can't protect you from. When Heero came back from a meeting of the high consul he discovered Duo burning up with fever among his dead and dieing friends. He had caught the plague.

It was then that he finally admitted what he knew all along. He couldn't live without his Duo in his life. So transforming then gathering the shivering bundle gently in his arm he flew back to the realm of the dragons. He didn't care if he was breaking the rules. 'Never reveal yourself to a human.' He just had to save Duo.

Looking at Heero Lyrissa sighed and used a claw to scratch the scaly pink skin of her snout.

"He's half dead already. The only way you can save him would be to give him half your heart and make him half dragon. He'll share your life and certain abilities will be increased but he will otherwise be the same."

Looking at the blue eyed pink and gold dragon Heero blinked then said, "I thought dragons only exchanged hearts when they life mated?"

"Well that's true, you'll have to make him your mate to save him and since he's human instead of an exchange you'll both share the same heart."

"Oh."

"Make up your mind soon. He's almost dead and then it won't do any good."

"Fine. Forget the consuls rules I want to save him." With a nod he gently set the boy down and changed back to his human form. He gave Lyrissa a nod.

"Will you do the honors?"

"Sure lay next to the boy young one."

As Heero lay next to Duo he could hear Lyrissa chanting the ancient dragon words her dark chambers stained crimson by there light as the sounds turned into symbols which encircled the two boys binding them as she stepped forward and used her 11 inch retractable front claw to cut open Heero's chest with medical precision.

When Heero awoke he touched his chest. The wound was healed not completely as he would have liked but he was still glad that his healing abilities worked to this extent. He reached out a hand to his still sleeping mate and touched him smiling slightly at the healthy glow of his skin.

"Heero Yuy, Last of the White Dragons."

Came a voice and he looked up realizing seven dragons surrounded them. The counsel, which represented the seven remaining lines. The black dragons were extinct and he was the last of the White dragons. While the rainbow dragons couldn't transform or do some of the things the Black or White Dragons had once done they were still powerful in there own right. The pinks were historians and the blues could see visions of the future. The golds were healers, the greens could make things grow, the greys could call storms and the browns protected them. The reds well they were the judges and sometimes executioners.

Standing slowly he held Duo protectively as the consul continued to speak.

"You have broken the most important rule. Never reveal yourself to a human. Even worse, you bring it back here?"

"I couldn't let him die."

"You have let your emotions dictate matters best left to reason."

Another dragon a blue spoke up, "He is young it is important to follow your heart."

A red nodded sagely, "Really Thantos," It scolded the grey who had spoken first. "You act as if we never follow our instincts!"

The first dragon snorted displeasure written on its craggy face as he whined. "He broke a rule and should be punished."

A green barely held his snort as he spoke. "If he chose that boy as his mate then the human isn't really human anymore and no rules are broken, right?"

A very old pink spoke up.

"There is one other case like this in our history. The annals state the human should be returned to its home and the dragon should be locked in its human form and sent to live among them to learn humanity. Neither will remember anything to do with the other and the dragons heart will be frozen its past forgotten. If they are truly meant to be and fate approves they will meet again and love will restore their memories and the human will become a true dragon. If not the human will live a normal life and the dragon will wander all through eternity without a heart."

The counsel nodded in agreement. That was fair.

Father Maxwell opened the door to his church and almost stumbled over a young boy bundled in rags his chestnut hair everywhere.

Odin Lowe searched through the children on the street to find a suitable replacement for the child he had just lost when his gaze was drawn to a boy sitting on the corner looking lost as he stared at the Smokey sky with eyes bluer then the oceans of earth.

Neither man saw the shadow of the huge winged form, which took to flight above them leaving the two boys to their fates.
