Notes: Thanks to everybody who reviewed, and special thanks to Casey, Arith, and Sol, who all kicked my ass into finishing this before I got stuck too much deeper in "Requiem for the Sinners."

"I've been in this town so long that back in the city
I've been taken for lost and gone
And unknown for a long long time..."

Endless Summer Epilogue
Heroes and Villains

A gorgeous sunset graced the horizon, making the sky look like it had been painted with streaks of gold leaf. North Point looked like it was on fire, brilliant orange light illuminating the buildings and the beach, which glowed like diamonds in the half-light.

At the Yuy household, a celebration was underway. Dozens of surfers and bennies gathered on the beach, laughing, dancing, smoking, swimming, surfing, and generally having a good time. Barbequed fish was the chow of the day, courtesy of Trowa and his mad spearfishing skills, and everybody partook.

The auburn-haired young man strummed on his guitar, a contented small smile on his face. Quatre sang along while the rest of the mob clapped and catcalled.

"I stretch out my hand in a cool cigarette, nothing has been planned, nothing has been set, So I'm happy! Happy as we can get, yeah! Happy, high, and soaking wet!"

Suddenly, a bloodcurdling cry pierced the serenity, issuing from the house.

"BAKA!! COME BACK WITH THAT FISH YOU DISHONORABLE MUTT!!! YUY, I SWEAR YOU TRAINED YOUR DOG TO STEAL FOOD FROM THE TABLE!!!"

The rest of the party laughed and went back to their celebration. Wufei's threats were nothing but an amusement. Everyone knew he was really a sweetheart. Although he would have kicked anyone's ass who said so.

"Speaking of the infamous, where are Heero and Duo?" Relena said, scanning the beach.

But Heero Yuy and Duo Maxwell, the hero and villain of the day, were nowhere to be seen.

~*~

"Heero?"

"Hmm..." Heero didn't open his eyes, but he lowered his leg to the ground and pushed off, swinging the hammock lazily.

Duo laid across Heero's chest on his belly. Heero's chest which was covered by a tee-shirt, which concealed the dozens of bandages he had acquired in his rescue attempt. Duo, for his part, was no better off. But they were both happy, anyway.

"You disappointed at all that Trowa won the contest? Even a little?" He squeezed his fingers a little where they were intertwined with Heero's, hanging alongside the hammock. His knuckled were scraped and bruised from bouncing against the reefs.

Heero swung his bandaged hand in an absent gesture, breathing the twilight in deeply. After coming so close to being killed, it felt pretty damned good to be alive, aches and all. He snorted, tangling his fingers in Duo's loose hair, twirling it thoughtfully. "Nope."

Duo sighed, snuggling up closer to him. "I'm sorry, Heero. If it wasn't for me, you would have won."

"... Duo, I didn't even want to enter that stupid contest in the first place, if you'll remember correctly. I hate those things. I'm just glad you're okay."

The two of them were silent for a moment, just taking in the warm, fading sunlight.

"Wow, they must have forgotten about me back on the mainland," Duo mused suddenly, watching the sun set over the water. "It feels like I've been in Hawaii forever."

Heero's brow furrowed slightly. "You're... not thinking about going back yet, are you?"

Duo lifted his head, grinning mischievously. "Maaaybe. You got anything here that would change my mind?"

"Hot shot," Heero muttered, kissing him softly. He reached up and brushed hair gently back from Duo's face, raising an eyebrow at the twinkling amusement in the Californian's violet eyes. "What do you want me to do to make you stay, huh?"

Duo grinned. "Get down on your knees and tell me you love me."

"I'll tell you I love you, but I'm way too damned comfortable to get down on my knees. Pick something else."

Duo closed his eyes, smiling.

"I'm not going to leave," he said, his voice soft. "Not for a long time. Viva Oahu," he added, his tone a little lighter.

"I wish we could stay this way forever, Duo," Heero replied, his voice wistful.

Duo looked up and laughed softly. "We can."

"Things aren't ever that simple."

Duo lifted their hands where they were intertwined, putting a gentle kiss across Heero's bruised, bloodied knuckles.

"They are here," he answered, closing his eyes. "We'll worry about the future tomorrow. Tonight, let's just stay here, okay... Heero?"

Heero sighed, smiling contentedly as he gazed over the ocean. It was so beautiful and dangerous. Dangerous, but something he could never leave. Duo and the sea... both the things he cherished most in the world. Hawaii and hammocks and good morning kisses...

He could dig it.

Duo's voice was dozy and half-asleep. "Hey Heero?"

"Hmmm?"

"Maybe we should safari to Malibu."

Heero fell asleep with a smirk on his face.

A rustle came from the nearby bushes.

"Perfect... perfect shot... just move your hand a little, Yuy. Smile for the fuckin' bird."

"Excuse me."

Walker looked up slowly to see an angry and most definitely righteous Wufei Chang standing over him, smacking one fist into the other cupped palm. The Chinese surfer's black eyes sparkled dangerously.

"Walker, is it? May I see you over here for a moment? My fists would like a word with you."

~*~

And they all lived happily ever after, basking in the glow of the Hawaiian sun, rocking in hammocks, fishing, working, going to college classes, laughing, and generally having a kick-ass time.

... except Walker.

My buddies and me are getting real well known, yeah the bad guys know us and they leave us alone....
